Which is not necessarily a failure. It makes it obvious though, that _the use_ of our body sums up into problems. We can't even talk about a spine alone. Because the core is meant to function _with it_.
I know for a fact other animals, like rats, cats and dogs have atleast most of those bone problems, too(and osteoporosis is due to bone regeneration becoming worse than bone degradation(partially done intentionally by the body), as a result of hormonal changes that come from menopause/andropause, NOT walking upright). you have a source? there are reasons why humans seem to be the "only" afflicted mammals: our sheer numbers, extensive healthcare systems (which collects loads of data) and pretty darn long lifespans. dogs and cats, as the most popular domestic pets, could see the next highest numbers due to similar reasons (numbers, vets, extended lifespans); but they also are quadrupedal, so they don't experience the mechanical issues listed in the video. further, pets don't need to expend as much energy as their wild cousins to obtain food, so they would presumably exert less forces on their bodies.

@@johnrey4341 Because the heels distribute the force of weight to your spine. Therefore you kinda run on your toes, which alot of sprinters do and its also effective as you get a longer range and faster acceleration. But there is always pros and cons to each and everything in your body, so running on your toes can also damage the heel if you are running the long range. So there is basically no proper way to run, therefore the only thing you can do to prevent having a back pain is by working out your muscles because the muscles work as a spring to the spine. 👍
The other con to running on your toes is that it puts more strain on your calves. Your calves have a lot of fast twitch muscles and hence are great for sprinting but terrible for long distance running. Another alternative is mid foot running, landing on the ball of your foot, while not as fast as toe running it doesn't have the spinal problem of heel running.
@@claypidgeon2808 Ok so this is a bit of a false assumption. Yes the calf has a large proportion of fast twitch fibre in the gastrocnemius (the one you can see the best) ~50% but the soleus (the one that sits underneath) is ~70% slow twitch fibre. We also have a huge achilles tendon which is used to elastically store and release energy making running a ton more efficient if you run forefoot/midfoot as opposed to heel striking.
Hey, Cheddar! Can you examine the human eyes next? It would be cool if we saw how you would explain why a lot of humans have myopia whereas every other animal with eyes does not, just like all the other 9999 problems unique to humans.
When I think about it, the eyes aren't the design disaster, rather the design disaster is the lifestyles and habits that are disasters for eyes. I'd love to see how Cheddar takes on that idea.
Daniel is partly correct tho. Nearly everyone can breed this days easily and survive etc. Letting a lot weak genes run lose prone to many diseases. Another problem is also the modern lifestyle, weakening of muscles and therefor support for bone structures etc. Foggy brain and lack of concentration. Weak eyes bc in cities everything is in close proximity and you don't have to look far and close anymore as much.
We had a very long period of getting rid of "weak genes" and only a couple of centuries to re-acquire them, so it's not going to be a problem yet. The short-sightedness is due to light levels, not proximity of objects; there's some mechanism for controlling what shape the eyeball should be that needs lots of daylight and makes them grow slightly the wrong shape if you have a lot of indoor light.
I am a physio with an engineering degree almost under my belt. Plus I grew up reading books about human evolution and comparing different anatomy. This video contains basically all tropes I try to mispell for my patients. The biomechanic model used is outdated, while still too often used for explanations. Please don't get me started on adaptations in late pregnancy. There is a lot, that is widely ignored. In adaptation for birthing. The waddle is a sign of disengaged core muscles. In active women, you definately see less of it. We do have so many problems, because our anatomy is buuilt for walking. All those problems listed are not a thing in rural Africa. In the cities they have started creeping up since the 1950s. But of course it has to be anatomy and not life style.
So the lesson ive learned here is to protect my back and body i must walk on all fours from now on. Thank you for the information, when people ask ill direct them here.
"...all of that force is entering our body through a single point: our heel" Except that's wrong. Heel striking is a result of people constantly wearing heavy shoes with raised, usually cushioned heels. Someone going around barefoot or with minimalist shoes will avoid heel striking because doing it is so bad at absorbing the forces that it will easily injure you.
I’ve had back pain since I was around 16 years old. What’s incredibly irritating is that when I was younger no one believed me because of how young I was, they probably thought I was just trying to get some pain medication or something. When I was 18 years old I finally got a cat scan and not only did I have scoliosis, but two of my vertebrae were deformed. They said it was probably from the amount of stress put into it throughout the years. Not all young people are faking pain! Since I started working out, and building muscle on my back I’ve since managed that pain, but I just wish people would’ve believed me when I was younger. Maybe it would’ve been able to get fixed early, and I wouldn’t have had to go through all that pain!
May i ask you what kind of fix u can have by getting your muscle strong around the spine? Or the back I mean how can the muscle fix a lot of not all of our bones pain?
actually, given another 10-20million years, evolution should correct more of these issues... though human interference could still keep some of the problems lingering on.
One thing this video fail to address is that the average life span of humans has doubled. Everything is design to have a certain life cycle. The design of our back is fine. We are just living longer than the intended life of our back. Just like our teeth starts to fall off after we reach a certain age. Nature never intended for us to live up to 80, 90, or 100 years.

How would you explain homosexual sex ? Or even heterosexual sex without penetration. That is not driven by breeding instincts ;)
How do you explain those women who never want kids, and still have sex ? They don’t wanna breed either, and for their entire life that is.
Of course the desire to breed still exist. I didn’t say we weren’t controlled at all by any instincts, just that it’s not as strong as before, because we can actually choose to have sex without pregnancy, whether thanks to the pil/condom, or just with abstinence or sex with no penetration.
@@misscroupette9777 sex without penetration isn't sex 😂, yes we are 1 of very few species that can have sex for pleasure BECAUSE of humans ability to procreate at pretty much any time that hasn't changed since the time before the pill.
Women that choose not to have kids are don't pass on their desire hense why the vast majority of women want kids, since the trait doesn't get passed on 🤣.
Homosexuality is a byproduct of the genes behind sexual activity, the genes are usually there to help a woman be more active (more activity more likely to propagate) and when a male gets 2 copies of these genes on the X chromosome it leans towards homosexuality
It's also found in studies that when women don't have kids they tend to live less happy and fulfilling lives than those that do. They also tend to be lonely.
Feminists HATE it be instinct droves A LOT of women's behavior, it's why Hypergamy will ALWAYS control women's choices

And the human spine is brilliant, but it's highly multifunctional and extremely used, so wear-and-tear starts to take it's strain after more than half a century.
I was about to explain this. Only to be happily suprised by this comment!
Yeah, I thought about all the dachshunds brought into our vet clinic with life-altering back injuries related to discs and tried not to laugh at the glaring misinformation here!

@@coupedroite Yep. And advances in some activities (making sports more extreme or fast or whatever) only add to the problem. With the dachshund thing, it mainly comes from people overfeeding and allowing their pups to get fat, or letting them jump down off furniture too high for them to be safe.

After watching I'd say the spine is actually quite a wonder of engineering design. To handle the amount of stress, tension and millions of movements we put it through while also remaining flexible and allowing us to be bipedal seems to be more of a testimate to it's resilience. It's generally known that anything with moving parts breaks down (i.e hard drives vs SSDs). The fact that the spine lasts as long as it does is actually quite amazing! dogs and cats most definitely suffer from at least 90% of this list, so nearly all the same musculoskeletal disorders/damage as humans... just sayin'.
i think the "only afflicted mammals" argument is a load of nonsense.
you have a source?
there are reasons why humans seem to be the "only" afflicted mammals: our sheer numbers, extensive healthcare systems (which collects loads of data) and pretty darn long lifespans. dogs and cats, as the most popular domestic pets, could see the next highest numbers due to similar reasons (numbers, vets, extended lifespans); but they also are quadrupedal, so they don't experience the mechanical issues listed in the video. further, pets don't need to expend as much energy as their wild cousins to obtain food, so they would presumably exert less forces on their bodies.
How to manage this problem:
1. Wear cushiony shoes
2. Strengthen your core
Try using shoes without cushioning instead, such as Vivo barefoots.
But.but...id rather accuse the human body of having design flaws based my projection of societal production demands.
Dont listen to this guy, dont wear cushioned shoes wtf.
Its the major cause of knee problems and weakened feet/ankles.
Wear thin and flexin able soles with no cushioning so you learn how to walk correctly.
Walking correctly has a better cushioning effect than any soft material ur put under your foot.
Dont spread old misinformation
But he is right, core is important.
Strengthening back muscles less so, the core supports the lumbar spine more than the back muscles.
It goes like this; strengthen your core AND upper back muscles.
For most people the lower back muscles are already overpowering the core/abs so you shouldn't focus on that until your body is balanced again.
Tight chest, tight lower back,
Weak core, weak upper back.
Thats most people's problem

We should realise that we are not a finished product, we are still evolving from the apes to a good upright posture.
So another reason to curse ourselves, we're not anything special, just an intermediate design.

Evolution isn't the process of getting "better", it's the process of adapting to better suit your enviroment through chance mutation. Back pain
“a small price to pay for salvation” - angry raisin boy
When running don't land on your heels. They shouldn't even be touching the ground when running tbh.
Why?
@@johnrey4341 Because the heels distribute the force of weight to your spine. Therefore you kinda run on your toes, which alot of sprinters do and its also effective as you get a longer range and faster acceleration. But there is always pros and cons to each and everything in your body, so running on your toes can also damage the heel if you are running the long range. So there is basically no proper way to run, therefore the only thing you can do to prevent having a back pain is by working out your muscles because the muscles work as a spring to the spine. 👍
@@AdamMarriyati thanks but running in heels is so silent so i liked it
The other con to running on your toes is that it puts more strain on your calves.
It's because humans don't get naturally selected anymore.
^

I have to say I love how you end this on a positive note and not just "you're body sucks and you will suffer".
So the lesson ive learned here is to protect my back and body i must walk on all fours from now on.
Thank you for the information, when people ask ill direct them here.
"...all of that force is entering our body through a single point: our heel"
Except that's wrong. Heel striking is a result of people constantly wearing heavy shoes with raised, usually cushioned heels. Someone going around barefoot or with minimalist shoes will avoid heel striking because doing it is so bad at absorbing the forces that it will easily injure you.
during walking I like to think everybody's gait lands on their heel... while walking I land on my heel but land on the ball of my foot when running
Lol. What? People don’t walk on the balls of their feet. They run. When you walk, you ROLL on the BALLS of your feet.
Lytheus you don’t have to like to think it, because that is EXACTLY the case.
If you go heel striking barefoot, you will get pain within minutes.. And never do it again.
Or the back
I mean how can the muscle fix a lot of not all of our bones pain?
God: i created human as perfect as possible
Human: you sure mate?
actually, given another 10-20million years, evolution should correct more of these issues... though human interference could still keep some of the problems lingering on.

One thing this video fail to address is that the average life span of humans has doubled. Everything is design to have a certain life cycle. The design of our back is fine.
