I used to be a nanny, it’s good money. But you’ve gotta be really patient, it’s not for everyone. Some kids are really entitled and some parents can be extremely difficult too.
I work with children but I think the main reason why I couldn’t do this job is living with the family. I like my privacy and I don’t think I could truly feel at home if it’s not my home.

I absolutely loved this episode. I went to college, got a degree, worked in corporate and left. The stress and pay wasnt worth it. I have been a nanny for 12 years (started out of high school) and it is amazing. Some people try to look down on me but I make more than them, save more and have launched a couple of business in the process. Tha k you for sharing this.
@@cerealis_5432 when I was in between jobs after high school my sister told me about a website to find babysitting and nanny jobs (she owned a daycare in Connecticut during that time) I went on the site and found a babysitting position which led to a nanny position. I have always used websites like sittercity.com but at some point it just came to the point where I would get referrals from previous families I've been with and also just the nanny community and families knowing your resume and experience. I have to also add that it differs drastically and you have to be prepared for the quick changes in this field. This is not a field for just anyone. My mentality is save save save (I dont go through an agency) because your contract Vulcan be one thing and the next day it's over. I had a 3 yr minimum contract with a family in 2019 and then boom. Covid hit and changed everything. In fortunately with another family now but it's a big change.

@@cerealis_5432 I definitely understand and I will say stay in college because it only helps with your resume as a nanny. Now I will say dont just look st her story and think it's that easy. I pass up on many job offers like this with that salary and terms because I am a parent myself. The hours for positions like that are typically 10 to 12 hrs with flexibility. Not having a life and sacrificing things definitely is apart of the game for that salary. I typically do 10 hrs a day but since the pandemic it's been 8 a day because the parents work from home now. Every family is different. I've had families that fidnt have tv, strict curriculum implementing and tight schedules to very chill families that has a different parenting style. I always encourage every nanny to have a standard of care and enriching activities for each age level and developmental stages. There is so many tips but finding a family that fits with your standards is important.

I feel like a lot of people expressing shock at this don’t understand that segment of NYC wealth. I used to pet/house sit and during “wedding season”, easily earned nearly $500/weekend just to watch people’s cats and water their plants while they went to the Hamptons/Martha’s Vineyard/other out of town spot for the weekend. One couple paid me $100 to sit with their dog for an hour because it had anxiety. You can easily make $40K/year just walking dogs. Obviously you can make as much, if not more taking care of small humans. I tried tutoring for a bit and easily found families in Brooklyn that would pay $50+ an hour (and some tutors get paid even more, some as high as $500/hour for test prep) but parents were more particular than pet owners so I opted out. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that nannies get paid this much in NYC, especially a FT live in nanny.

What people fail to understand is that being a nanny is a very important job, in fact highly important, you're literally guarding a family's future. People will pay you good if you do that well. If you believed the lie that only engineering, business science or rocket science are important jobs than the jokes on you!

I met a woman who had 2 kids, 6 and 4, who paid me $400 for 6 hours. I met her through a medical internship and she needed someone to watch her children while she attended the US Open with her husband. At the time I didn't see it as a career. The kids were sweet and well behaved. Sweet nice caring people can make a lot of money.
A junior physician in my country make 25k per year! Year! 7 times less than her as a nanny. And have to study 6 years before the specialization! Some just stop studing at 30 or 31 years to make 25k and she with 29 earns 175k And if they neggociate its better they find another work because its not negociable. Wtf world... And the prices in the supermarket are the same or higher than in america 🤦♂️
first thing to do is to stop all form of trade and seek the help of an expert to guide you through. allot of people shy away from this thinking they could do it alone and end up blowing up their account.

She is literally making close to 3,365$ a week. Good for her, I hope she continues to thrive & hope that more people hire her . Being a nanny is an incredibly stressful job , unless you love children. However, in my opinion it's never easy taking care of other people's kids. That particular job requires allot of patience and creativity in order to keep the kids occupied and happy.
@@eara8426 minimum wage is not an indicator of what jobs pay. It just indicates the least amount of money an employer must pay you by law. Where living costs are higher employers will pay you more to do it there. NYC has among the highest cost of living in the country so jobs will most definitely pay more there, and that includes nannying. She even said in the video that she negotiated a $60,000 salary increase which means she either made or was offered $70,000 to start. Still a high salary for a nanny of just one child, nannies are not making that type of money anywhere else in the country with the exception of maybe the bay area in California.

I'm glad that they offered you that raise. Don't ever feel nervous about asking for your self worth. I've learned that in my career and I know I should even ask for more as I continue to grow and learn!

This is so relevant today due to Covid and kids staying home. In the past this was called being a governess. If you are a qualified teacher, this is a great alternative to teaching a whole class of kids online.

I used to be a nanny. It is very lucrative especially for persons with degrees in early childhood education etc. Perks are amazing if you met the right family.
This is why I tell people, NEGOTIATE. If a company or family in this case want you, they will do anything to keep you. That means doubling or tripling your salary.

There's something wrong with a person that has 15 grand in debt and is paying a chef 600 dollars a month to cook. Clearly if you are not paying for room and board you can easily pay off debt within 6 months at her current salary.
I said the same thing.....if she is really making 175k a year then she is probably taking home somewhere between 8-11k per month. She can pay her debt off in like 2 months
To be fair, she said she had about 25,000 in debt now she’s at 11 and she didn’t really start paying it down aggressively until the pandemic hit so… and her debt service was over 4000 a month

If they move out of the city they could easily make more. There is a high concentration of doctors in cities and lots of smalls towns are willing to pay bank for them.

Normally that would make sense but you can do a 0% balance transfer and re-allocate some of that money to an investment that yields a higher percentage.
I nannied in grad school and it was great hours for good money. However, to be a good nanny (like Brieonna is!), you do genuinely need to enjoy working with and constantly being around children as well as have endless ways to keep them engaged. It's a lot of work, which definitely correlates with her salary!

Pharmacy is a career. Being a nanny is a job, basically unskilled labor. It is easy to replace someone like her. That’s why some nannys are recent immigrants with limited English language skills and high school education or less.

Mannied (man nanny) when I was in grad school and a bit afterwards here in NYC, yes, it definitely pays if you're good and you offer a speciality. I have a master in Social Worker, was a teacher before that, and specialized in behavior and working with boys. Because I was a rarity, I made $$$. It was great, but the boundaries and power dynamic wasn't for me forever. You become family, but youre paid and the lines can get blurred. Big UPS to Brieonna, loved this video!

Honestly, If I had a great nanny who loved my kids I'd pay to keep her as well. I can totally understand why the first couple increased her salary and why the second couple is paying her through Covid. Finding someone who is good to your kids is priceless.
I wonder what nanny agencies she used? She's educated and has experience and deserves every penny. I'm also a teacher who nannies and I love it. The job is not for everybody though especially her schedule of 7 days on.
She served in the National Guard and Reserves as Military Intel, she speaks three languages, graduated from Spellman with degrees in childhood development and international relations. Yet, she's a nanny for a family in Atlanta for $30K and had a side job for $15K. Her debt shouldn't be college because she had/has the G.I. Bill. It covers any school as long as you get accepted. Either I'm not following her logic or this isn't true.
I'm happy for Brieonna!! Often times nannies do not renegotiate salary and they really should especially if there has been an increased responsibilities. What makes it better is that the family recognizes her contribution and pays her what she deserves and all the perks! That's awesome! =)

I work with children but I think the main reason why I couldn’t do this job is living with the family. I like my privacy and I don’t think I could truly feel at home if it’s not my home.

I absolutely loved this episode. I went to college, got a degree, worked in corporate and left. The stress and pay wasnt worth it. I have been a nanny for 12 years (started out of high school) and it is amazing. Some people try to look down on me but I make more than them, save more and have launched a couple of business in the process. Tha k you for sharing this.

@@cerealis_5432 when I was in between jobs after high school my sister told me about a website to find babysitting and nanny jobs (she owned a daycare in Connecticut during that time) I went on the site and found a babysitting position which led to a nanny position. I have always used websites like sittercity.com but at some point it just came to the point where I would get referrals from previous families I've been with and also just the nanny community and families knowing your resume and experience. I have to also add that it differs drastically and you have to be prepared for the quick changes in this field. This is not a field for just anyone. My mentality is save save save (I dont go through an agency) because your contract Vulcan be one thing and the next day it's over. I had a 3 yr minimum contract with a family in 2019 and then boom. Covid hit and changed everything. In fortunately with another family now but it's a big change.

@@cerealis_5432 I definitely understand and I will say stay in college because it only helps with your resume as a nanny. Now I will say dont just look st her story and think it's that easy. I pass up on many job offers like this with that salary and terms because I am a parent myself. The hours for positions like that are typically 10 to 12 hrs with flexibility. Not having a life and sacrificing things definitely is apart of the game for that salary. I typically do 10 hrs a day but since the pandemic it's been 8 a day because the parents work from home now. Every family is different. I've had families that fidnt have tv, strict curriculum implementing and tight schedules to very chill families that has a different parenting style. I always encourage every nanny to have a standard of care and enriching activities for each age level and developmental stages. There is so many tips but finding a family that fits with your standards is important.

Definitely a very wealthy probably well known family
I feel like a lot of people expressing shock at this don’t understand that segment of NYC wealth. I used to pet/house sit and during “wedding season”, easily earned nearly $500/weekend just to watch people’s cats and water their plants while they went to the Hamptons/Martha’s Vineyard/other out of town spot for the weekend. One couple paid me $100 to sit with their dog for an hour because it had anxiety. You can easily make $40K/year just walking dogs. Obviously you can make as much, if not more taking care of small humans. I tried tutoring for a bit and easily found families in Brooklyn that would pay $50+ an hour (and some tutors get paid even more, some as high as $500/hour for test prep) but parents were more particular than pet owners so I opted out. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that nannies get paid this much in NYC, especially a FT live in nanny.

What people fail to understand is that being a nanny is a very important job, in fact highly important, you're literally guarding a family's future. People will pay you good if you do that well. If you believed the lie that only engineering, business science or rocket science are important jobs than the jokes on you!

I met a woman who had 2 kids, 6 and 4, who paid me $400 for 6 hours. I met her through a medical internship and she needed someone to watch her children while she attended the US Open with her husband. At the time I didn't see it as a career. The kids were sweet and well behaved. Sweet nice caring people can make a lot of money.

A junior physician in my country make 25k per year! Year! 7 times less than her as a nanny. And have to study 6 years before the specialization! Some just stop studing at 30 or 31 years to make 25k and she with 29 earns 175k

@@eara8426 minimum wage is not an indicator of what jobs pay. It just indicates the least amount of money an employer must pay you by law. Where living costs are higher employers will pay you more to do it there. NYC has among the highest cost of living in the country so jobs will most definitely pay more there, and that includes nannying. She even said in the video that she negotiated a $60,000 salary increase which means she either made or was offered $70,000 to start. Still a high salary for a nanny of just one child, nannies are not making that type of money anywhere else in the country with the exception of maybe the bay area in California.
If the kids love their nanny, there is no price too high.

There's something wrong with a person that has 15 grand in debt and is paying a chef 600 dollars a month to cook. Clearly if you are not paying for room and board you can easily pay off debt within 6 months at her current salary.
I said the same thing.....if she is really making 175k a year then she is probably taking home somewhere between 8-11k per month. She can pay her debt off in like 2 months

I nannied in grad school and it was great hours for good money. However, to be a good nanny (like Brieonna is!), you do genuinely need to enjoy working with and constantly being around children as well as have endless ways to keep them engaged. It's a lot of work, which definitely correlates with her salary!

Pharmacy is a career. Being a nanny is a job, basically unskilled labor. It is easy to replace someone like her. That’s why some nannys are recent immigrants with limited English language skills and high school education or less.

Mannied (man nanny) when I was in grad school and a bit afterwards here in NYC, yes, it definitely pays if you're good and you offer a speciality. I have a master in Social Worker, was a teacher before that, and specialized in behavior and working with boys. Because I was a rarity, I made $$$. It was great, but the boundaries and power dynamic wasn't for me forever. You become family, but youre paid and the lines can get blurred. Big UPS to Brieonna, loved this video!

Honestly, If I had a great nanny who loved my kids I'd pay to keep her as well. I can totally understand why the first couple increased her salary and why the second couple is paying her through Covid. Finding someone who is good to your kids is priceless.
I wonder what nanny agencies she used? She's educated and has experience and deserves every penny. I'm also a teacher who nannies and I love it. The job is not for everybody though especially her schedule of 7 days on.

She served in the National Guard and Reserves as Military Intel, she speaks three languages, graduated from Spellman with degrees in childhood development and international relations. Yet, she's a nanny for a family in Atlanta for $30K and had a side job for $15K. Her debt shouldn't be college because she had/has the G.I. Bill. It covers any school as long as you get accepted. Either I'm not following her logic or this isn't true.

Everyone isn't qualified to do the job. You really have to love children and be patient.

@@jesandybolano774 I would quit ATL just for the better work life balance but she probably has ties there or really loves the kids.
I also think they value her and the service she offers.
I'm happy for Brieonna!! Often times nannies do not renegotiate salary and they really should especially if there has been an increased responsibilities.
What makes it better is that the family recognizes her contribution and pays her what she deserves and all the perks! That's awesome! =)
