I literally just came back to thank you. I had a couple of water spots and decided I would just live with them (it's a company car). Then I saw this video and decided to give it a try. I did it last night, and my drive to work this morning in the sun was so much better. Thanks a lot, dude!
Detailer here. We use it all the time! Spray it down with winded, scrub till u see it soap up, and then wipe it down.
It’s great for so many detailing things! Love it for the the windows and chrome accents. Perfect for removing road grime and tarnish from exhaust tips too!

@@Phuong_Nguyen_ I believe they meant the glass cleaner "Windex" but water can work as well. Just keep a microfiber handy to wipe away streaks.

Wear gloves! I did all my windows last year and i felt something funny on my fingertips and found tiny pieces of the fibers stuck in my fingers.😔

We've used #0000 steel wool for years. The correct terminology for it is 4 aught (like caught without the c or some say ot as in hot). Just an FYI.

I hope this works, I washed my moms car a while back and the Windshield is just covered in Water Spots.
I used Driven Extreme Duty Glass Cleaner shit works like a charm

This did the job for me. I bought a 2002 Chevy Tahoe with water spots all over the windows. Bought some Rain-X glass cleaner and that did not do anything even after scrubbing hard. After seeing this video got the gloves and fourx steel wool.
That did it!
Now I want to know will this work the same on my mirrors. I'd hate to do it and scratch them up although I'm assuming that they won't.
Awesome! Glad it worked. For the mirrors, I've never had an issue with scratches from this method but as always I recommend testing in a more inconspicuous spot (hard to do on a mirror I know). After that, I'd use plenty of either water, ONR, or glass cleaner as a lubricant and then light pressure with the #0000 and that should do the trick.
Windex and newspaper. Something with the newspaper makes for an EXCELLENT auto glass cleaning rag.
Fibers in the newsprint acts a a similar abrasive.
I've used it for 50 years on home and auto glass.
The thing to keep in mind is that these are not pure water spots. Depending on where one lives, rain pulls all kinds of pollution from the air. You also get spray from the roadway, and pollen, etc., from trees and vegetation.
All kinds of chemical reactions will happen over time, including reactions with 'glass'. That's why you'll see so many opinions on various glass cleaners, etc. "This product is the best; this product is garbage, and vice versa. I don't wash my car and/or windows very often, and live in a large city. The car sits out all year, and I have giant oak trees, etc. etc. etc.
I just finally washed my windows and changed wipers - both long overdue. Windsheild looked perfect, so I sprayed water on and tried the wipers... got big arcs exactly where the old wipers were doing them.
Does a magic eraser work the same?
Can I use a scotch stainless steel scrubber, the round ones? Not sure if that's the same.

Just make sure to get all the steel wool off the paint or your gonna have a ton of micro rust spots everywhere

@@JM-ve7sm I’d go for a drive and get up to speed so the wind blows all the steel wool off then if you have a leaf blower use that to blow the entire vehicle and then wash it

What about water spots on interior surfaces like center console area. It’s shiny black plastic so this method would scratch it, right? Any other methods? I’ve just gotten my car back from my husband. He drove it to work for a couple years. We bought it new for me… but then realized it was the more practical option for me to give it up and go back to our old Tahoe. Basically, he has atrocious manners and would sneeze without covering his mouth. So now I’m trying to detail it back to the condition I kept it in.
Yeah I wouldn't use it on black plastic. Too risky. For that I'd just go interior cleaner and a microfiber. If that didn't work, then you can try vinegar. Start with it diluted a bit just to make sure you're not being too harsh.
I wish I would have used this instead of Adam's water spot remover. Now I have acid etched glass on my customer's Corvette c8
Oh no! Yeah this is definitely an effective method but I always test a spot first to make sure it's not going to scratch or anything since it is an aggressive method. I think to err on the side of caution vinegar/water 50/50 is another good approach.
@@HSZGarage Worked great on paint, applied it to the fire wall window for 10 seconds rinsed it off with ONR wiped clean, a few hours later and the light hit it at just the right angle. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldn't run it on the the glass side I've never had any issues. As long as it's #0000 steel wool.

Just some glass cleaner. I used Stoner Invisible Glass here. I've tried vinegar water with the #0000 steel wool before too but that wasn't a good move. Lol the steel wool began oxidizing and heating up.
Can you use on the car?
Like on the paint? No. I would not recommend that. It'll swirl your clear coat.

I didn’t here but it’s not a bad idea to use a little glass cleaner or vinegar while you do.

I use 0000 steel wool to clean my stained glass. Not sure if this helps you, but for us we always keep a little water on the surface so as to not scratch the glass.

@@zzreign3214 it’s not supposed to but some glass is softer than others and can scratch quite easily, for stained glass purposes it helps to keep some water on it to keep ensure you don’t scratch it. Water glass is especially finicky for me.
Are you kidding me ? I'm terrified to put steel wool on my glass 😳. Should I really f do this? I'm extremely OCD'ish about my car glass. This just sounds irreversibly committal.

(Edit #2: OK, This **WORKS**. I cannot overstate how deep the water stains (from previous owner) in my windows were so I dipped the steel wool in warm soapy water, scrubbed, then while still wet sprayed a little WD40 on there, scrubbed again, then repeated a third time with glass cleaner. When I say scrubbed, I mean... elbow joint pain scrubbed. Dried everything up and did one final glass cleaner/paper towel pass and I now have absolutely brand new glass. I prob didn't need to do all four steps but I was going for broke.

Where do you get the steel wool at? And what about doing it on factory tinted car windows. Mine is bad on my windows
I think I got mine at Home Depot. And on tint, I really recommend a test spot. Much higher chance that you'll scratch the tint film. It's usually applied on the interior though, so if you stick to exterior and are careful you should be good.

Ok , if water spots are fresh they will come out , but if they are old water spot they won't, and u will just scratch ur glass, u need different products to remove it, do a research before doing it , or u just going to ruined ur glass..

glass is WAY harder than steel wool. There's no way it caused tiny scratches on your glass.

Lol those were not bad water spots. This will work on very minor spots. Acid or compound for real water spots.

He specified 0000# it’s fine enough it doesn’t scratch the glass. And chemicals could get on your paint so this is a good option
What do i put on the wool?
In this video, I had already cleaned the vehicle and removed most of the surface dirt from the windows so I gently ran the steel wool dry. For heavy spotting, you can mist the window with vinegar or even water while you use the wool to help lubricate but keep a towel handy to wipe up the streaks and prevent re-drying. The vinegar is slightly acidic and can help dissolving the water spots but it also can cause your steel wool to rust quickly or even become hot in your hand as the reaction occurs. I’ve found that running it dry has been safe and effective on my truck’s exterior windows but test an inconspicuous spot on your vehicle beforehand. And don’t run steel wool on any tint or coatings. Be sure you’re working on bare glass only.

#0000 Steel wool is an abrasive. Test in an inconspicuous spot to make sure on your vehicle. In my experience, #0000 steel wool is fine for exterior glass that is not coated in anything and I have noticed no scratching.
heres an east european hack - newspaper
make a ball of newspaper pages and try it without wetting it or anything like that just plain old newspaper. the steel wool might technically do the trick but it creates scratches, tiny ones but scratches non the less
