Dear Candy Cane, Not all silat is designed to kill. I know at least three style of Silat which really taught the practitioner not to find trouble, not to hurt people unnecesary. They are Cikalong (West Java), Timbangan (West Java), and Kumango (West Sumatera). All of them was founded by religious person.
