  • I got a bit emotional, with my internal (and external) Monologue, both the instrument and the thoughts.
    Plus, since 2023 has been very frustrating in all of its parts, even this video has been compromised by everything that could go wrong: dead batteries, bugs in the Mood (first time ever), the camera shut itself off in some other recordings, and so on.
    Two years ago I was playing with a $2000 Moog Matriarch going into a $1.100 CXM1978, now I am running a $200 Korg Monologue through a $400 Mood Mk2, and I am ultimately sad that everything around me seems to be turning into dust, but I am still here, and music is still by my side, and judging from the result, seems like once again music is still the most empathetic and sympathetic friend I have.
    I hope you'll enjoy it! And spend some time with your loved ones 🧡

    Well, sometimes less is more. It depends on what angle you look at it. Philosophy aside, what is that random vibrato effect is coming from? Is it a Monologue patch or MOOD?

      I'm glad you spotted it: it is coming from the Chase Bliss Generation Loss mk2 off-camera.
      I was struggling to find a way to incorporate it in the frame, so I kept it out (plus, there isn't much interaction with the pedal going on, like it would be with a real tape recorder!)

    2 years into depression, my life shattered in pieces when my son was born and my world collapsed under the weight of tremendous responsibilities that suddenly made their appearance into my now gone past life. Started 2023 separating with my partner, and ended it being heartbroken by a surprise encounter with my first love. I hadn’t remember the last time I cried for 10 days in a row, while having to keep a straight face in front of my loved ones for Christmas.
    In a burst of deep introspection and self-contemplation, wondering why all of this happened to me, I pulled off my best music piece, and truly took my time to make it as personal and special as possible. I feel you, friend. I feel you, deeply.
    I woke up 2 weeks ago, after having let go of all the sadness and hurtful feelings, and realized depression left, and I was feeling fulfilled and whole again.
    Time heals. Trust life, because it knows more that we do.
    Your music is a work of beauty, cherish it, no matter the tools you use to make it. It’s your own.
    One love 🫶🏼

      Thank you so much for sharing what you've been through.
      I am also glad you're now recovering, and I cannot add anything else without sounding banal or cheesy.
      So, I thank you, and we can both thank music 🧡
      Take good care.

    Wow, your description really took me by surprise😮!!! Somehow, you've nailed the very essence of what's constantly on my mind. I too feel like I'm stuck in a rut, with most things not turning out as planned. I've disliked every job I've had because, deep down, I know my true passion lies in making music. It seems we're in the same boat...I've had to sell most of my gear, move back to my old flat and whatnot. But I'm determined to push through these tough times, believing that eventually, things will fall into place. Let's keep the faith and make it happen!!!

      "If you want to make god laugh, tell him about your plans" is an old saying, and seems more and more true with every step (we) take.
      I am still glad I haven't taken the "musician as a job" road, since right now music really is one of the the few things almost pure I've left, and associating it with money, deadlines and WORK would have been the final nail in the coffin.
      Maybe I was rushing too much into things, thinking that "that's how it's done", and there would be a lot to say about how current media push towards a fast-paced, don't-you-dare-to-be-left-behind schedule.
      So I wish both of us an even longer life, to make space for our projects in a proper way 🧡

    once again, you prove that the quality/price of the gear used is nowhere near as influential as the motivation and inspiration of the person using it......................great upload...................moody and thoughtful, yet light and inspiring..........Sorry to hear that '23 was a tough year for you........Hang in there........as you say, you're in a better place than probably at least 90% of the people on the planet..................thanks for sharing your gift.....

      Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🏻
      And you're right: this video will probably be a testament (mostly to myself) to the combination of gear usage, sentiment and a specific time of my life, and this is priceless.
      I will work towards positive things in 2024, and I hope I will be able to share that sentiment too, and take you all with me on this sonic journey 🧡

    It's not the size or value of the synth that matters, but how you use it. Very moving piece.

      I am using a Sony A7SIII (overkill for jam videos, since I will never record in 120fps FF, but still a nice camera) and a Sony 85mm F1.8 (shitty lens, but it gets the job done, and it was the only one I could afford at that focal length)

  • @vccranker
    @vccranker 8 месяцев назад +2

    This is terrific! I knew I couldn't really afford the minilogue or XD so I thought I might try a monologue, however so many of the demos are several years old. Thank you for this, it's incredible! My father had a tough year in 2023 and it was his last and it was his decision and he managed to get the blessing of the state, since as he said he had no quality of life left. He had lost a leg due to an infection and soldiered on.
    But in 2022/2023 his eyesight took a steady decline and the doctors only made it worse with eye drops that burned and left him with little hope. He loved music and he certainly would have appreciated this! Hang in there, you are Young and very talented!

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  8 месяцев назад +1

      I was surprised too, the Monologue isn't getting much love, especially outside of cheap-sounding acid basslines! And with a keyboard plus all the controls on the panel, it has so much potential for expressiveness!
      Condolences to your father, it must have been tough for him and for yourself too, and I hope he can now rest peacefully, wherever he is.
      Thank you so much for your words and your story, I'll cherish them 🧡

    Not sure i can add words any wiser than others here have offered. The beautiful, melancholy music you have produced with such simple gear speaks of your talent and your positive attitude. The question is.... is 2024 ready for you?
    Good luck and best wishes.

    Odd, I've seen a few videos where the person's Mood 2 pedal would not make any sounds and/or other weird behavior. I'm really rethinking getting another couple of pedals (leaving out the name), in place of CBliss pedals. Gonna have to look into these Mood findings a bit more.

    • @Dexba
      @Dexba  7 месяцев назад

      I luckily haven’t encountered any weird behavior for the time being, and the only times I got worried about something being broken was just user error in setting some of the dip switches 😄
      I’ve also heard Chase Bliss is quite responsive to support inquiries, so if you have any problems you should definitely try to contact them (but I’ve never dealt with them personally, so I can’t speak for experience).
      The Mood mk2 has been a nice discovery for me, and it replaced (not because it is similar in functionality but it is in use case) my Microcosm, which, in hindsight, had a very sub-par sound quality.
      Glad you stopped by to check my video! ☺️
