Same here! I watched the Sullivan show back in the 50's. Loved the variety acts. I now watch America's Got Talent for the same reason. The judges kinda suck, but I'm there for the acts. Colbert is the best of the late night shows.
The real miracle is how I manage not to lick my screen every time he appears. The man is LITERALLY eye candy. How can one human being be that talented, good looking and just all- round, old- fashioned nice?
I've always thought the conversations between him and Stephen felt awkward and sometimes forced, like when you're trying to make small talk with someone you don't really want to talk to. More so during the lockdown

It's as though he's quite shy around people who aren't his "friends" apart from in a working context (and I'm certainly not suggesting either are faking anything- it's TV, after all, and people have to get along) but is very comfortable when he gets to pick who he interacts with.
Ok, we need a "behind the scenes" video of how this was made. Also, Stephen needs to have the drone operator on his show for an interview. Make this happen.
I agree. I genuinely enjoyed the chill setting and being able to hear only the select few people in the room laugh when a particularly funny joke or improv scenario played out. Not that I dislike the live audience, but there was just something about broadcasting from a mostly empty room. I also miss his at home shoots as well. I wish he never would have come out of the closet.

I wonder if this was filmed by (or inspired by) the crew who started using drones indoors. I remember reading something about it. Long shots that use drones instead of Steadicams so the camera can go that high, safely (somewhat), indoors.
Look into getting an aerial antenna. You can pick up most local channels for free over the air. Decent directional ones you mount in your atic or on a pole outside can be had for about $50. Point them in the right direction (there's an app for that), and enjoy your free local channels. A lot of them are in HD as well.
I love this new intro! The audience members are especially beautiful and enthusiastic. I just wish they did those dazzling audience members justice by panning across them a lot slower and making them appear clearer and ~less blue~
