USE CODE "MAKERMODS" FOR 15% OFF THESE GOATED LINEARS UNTIL AUGUST 31ST! ALL HAIL GREAT PAPPA GEON! (not an affiliate code or anything, he's literally cutting pretty much all his profit off of these switches and if that's not the best news I've heard all of 2022 I don't know what is.
I feel like the PE foam sheet on the test board between the pcb/plate definitely distorts how the switch would sound truly stock and/or modded. I wonder if you would consider removing that sheet on tests moving forward.
Thank you for the great review. Do you think getting the lubed version will be good enough? I wasn't sure if the "stock" version on the video was lubed or not tho.
Thank you! Theremingoat reviewed the lubed version and he mentioned that the factory lube is very thin, so you can lube over it! I think most of the pitch change comes from the films, and the difference in sound/feel between stock and modded is pretty slight with these switches!
I had considered these for my Corsa build, but seems like I rather look elsewhere since their sound is just way too clacky and plasticky. Thanks for the video!
So the key directly to the right of my spacebar is a mo1 key that switches the keymap to a function layer when you hold it down! So to push f1, for example, I’d push the function key and 1 key at the same time!
What're your thoughts on durock lupines? I've been looking for a long pole switch with the 2 stage spring beside zakus and I can't find any reviews on them. I'm looking for that clack sound and these definitely sound deeper than zakus and would prefer something more comparable mainly because zakus are like ALWAYS out of stock.
I haven’t tried them myself; however, if you’re looking for a long pole linear with clack, I’d look for translucent polycarbonate switch housings with your desired spring weight!
I lube the bottom housing rails and the two side walls, then all four sides of the stem (sliders then above the legs and the back) then all four sides of the top housing!
I have not, but just from looking at the gb page they would likely sound a little sharper in the highs because the top housing is translucent? Seems like they work out to $.62 per switch USD so they are a bit pricy compared to the Geons :P EDIT: So if I'm looking at the right link, the tops are HPE and the bottoms are a mystery material. I'd expect them to sound pretty muted on the return so it would be a very interesting experiment, haha! In my experience HPE is a very mid/high absorbent plastic so the top out sounds a little lower, which might not be a bad thing? No way of knowing what the bottom housing will sound like though. They're pretty unique and if I wasn't broke I'd probably order some, haha!
You mentioned that you haven’t found a long pole linear switch that offers a better price to performance ratio. Is there a high end switch that you think performs better than the Geon blacks?
That’s a great question! I personally prefer the sound of BCPs or long pole cherry blacks, but both require harvesting parts of switch and waste! They also sound way less “clacky” due to the nylon top housing of the cherry!
totally! To me the zakus are still an amazing long pole linear; but when I a/b them the Geon blacks are "clacky" as well in the highs, but not to the point of sounding brittle or plasticy! Different strokes for different folks; with the discount though I think these are an insane value for 42.5c per switch haha

Thanks so much for the feedback! Moving forward I’ll do my sound tests without the PE foam. Or at least include a sound test without the foam!
how do these compare to cream sodas? been torn between these two

@@MakerMods thank you for the reply. I will definitely check that out !
@@jasonchen3883 I'm not sure if you saw, but Geon set up a 15% off discount with code MAKERMODS. That brings these down to 42.5c per switch haha
@@MakerMods XD I actually didn't notice this one thx for reminding me. This deal actually insanely good tbh I will definitely order some soon.

Hello! May I ask how do you access fn keys which I cannot see in your Polaris board?
So the key directly to the right of my spacebar is a mo1 key that switches the keymap to a function layer when you hold it down! So to push f1, for example, I’d push the function key and 1 key at the same time!

@@MakerMods thank you! That's a really good starting point!
for the stock sound test, did you buy the lubed or unlubed version?
unlubed you can see on the box
Can I ask what's your method of lubing these switches or any other switches ?
I lube the bottom housing rails and the two side walls, then all four sides of the stem (sliders then above the legs and the back) then all four sides of the top housing!
Have you tried the K Techs S1 switch? Its another Tecsee Long Pole that are cheaper than the Zakus, was wondering if they were similar to these lol

Damn they sound poppier than almost all the others 😳
They are definitely among the poppiest-sounding, haha!
i prefer the clacky sound from the zakus, tho higher in pitch for the zakus
