I came to see this because an article was raving about how hilarious it is. I noticed Henry Winkler & Steve Martin stare in bewilderment, and Im confused just the same. What was funny?
That was just… hard to watch. I started with a smile and ended with a frown. So so so so so much could’ve been done to make that “tribute” actually “comedic,” but it was anything but and the Martin’s’ faces said it all.
No way you could recreate this scene in any other way in the alotted time, as a Lucy fan, I smiled at the fact her contribution was acknowledged at all.
The only one that could be anything close is Carol Burnett who loves Lucy and was close friends with her, had her on the show and had her Carol Burnett show mainly by ideas from I love Lucy, skits and all. This woman here is a lunatic for thinking she could do anything to tribute to a iconic legend. The biggest TV star in most people's opinions. It's embarrassing for this woman. She made a fool out of herself and so did the one playing Vivian Vance who is an icon legend as well. ❤️
She's black so it's automatically brilliant since you are black and clapping. It's a huge pile of 💩! I am one of the biggest I love lucy fans. Her doing a Lucille Ball tribute is horrible because it was extremely lazy and not funny at all. The only cheers were the recorded ones. Nobody star wise there was laughing in the audience at all. She is an embarrassment to Diana Ross and is unattractive as well. Makeup won't ever hide it. You can't black out white legends and they can't white out black legends like family matters and the Jeffersons. To be an iconic legend you gotta be original and not copy other peoples work or try to tribute them in a way that shows you don't even love and watch the show. 👏 I put my white hands because you put your black ones to get support for her skin color. She sucked big time and that's all that counts in the world of comedy.
Tracee Ross is very funny. She was not trying to replicate Lucy. She was paying homage alongside a woman who added no comedic value whatsoever in an obvious unwritten impromptu skit.
Tracee Ellis Ross said on Conan O'Brien's podcast recently that they were supposed to, they'd had them in rehearsals, and they were shocked when they weren't there and it completely messed up the bit.

Well I will say this there was one person on that stage that gave us a tribute to I Love Lucy, but the others I'm not so sure about (judge for yo-self). This could have been better, I was not looking for a full on replica of the original, but at least give it props it deserved which again one person did.
They were wincing because they know, as the actors know, that they were missing the wrappers which was the crux of the joke. Someone got fired for this. But the actors made a show of it anyway.
🥴 It was absolute trash and very lazy. None of it made sense. No stars in the audience laughed and it had no humor. It had no drama, nothing. It was pointless. 😑👍

I think they should have just dressed up as Lucy and Ethel and done it straight....this was painful to watch. I love them both but this didn't fly.
