Living in Augusta and all this time I thought it was just an outlet for their traps. I never knew they had so much stuff. I just took a rip out there today because of this video and I have to say, you cost me a lot of money! Glad to say it's a great shop with great people. For a local shop right in the prime of their season, their prices were great.

What a fantastic story of building a business from nothing to something special. Hopefully as they grow they do not lose sight of their beginnings, high quality components and good people make high quality traps. If quality ever goes downhill, people will not be willing to pay the premium prices for their products. I loved ice fishing with my dad in my younger years, I think it is time to get back into it.

@@JoeHollandFishing Indeed, Jack Traps do make a very good product, however it looks like Bill Beaver of Forest City Traps makes even higher quality tip ups. I just purchased on of Bill's few remaining traps to inspect and test, it looks awesome.

Went down the other day and bought a new pack basket, traps, and a pack sack for this season. Called ahead because we were running late and they stayed open 45 minutes late for us after we got there. Great people!

PS Joe can’t wait to hear what you do for your camp on Carr Pond!!

Hi Joe, I don't know if my last comment got posted or not because I can't seem to find it. But I live in New Hampshire, and I like going after northern pike. Love your show. I enjoy watching it all the time, and I'm actually going to try some overnight ice fishing this year at my local pawn to see how it works out.

The cross style was more popular down here in CT because it was all we could get off the shelf at the store. Still have my set of Hi-Flyers that are about 35 years old. Use 26" standards now. Still have the carbon steel springs. WD at the beginning of the season keeps them rust free.

My Loring Pack basket melted and distorted when I left it by the wood stove to dry. it was 2-3ft away..... so keep that in mind Its plastic .There were many wood baskets closer that were fine

    • @JoeHollandFishing

Truth . Plastic will definitely melt under heat . It won’t crush or break though like the wood ones . That’s most of the trade off I think

Joe I really appreciated this video Jack traps is one of those stores in Maine that I just have not made it to yet but it’s definitely on the list….
How many videos do you save from prior year in order to upload till ice fishing begins typically

    • @JoeHollandFishing

I dont plan on saving them but last year I ended up having a bunch at the end of the season and youtube algorithm killed the ice fishing stuff before I could get it uploaded

Nothing like a good Maine business building a superior product. Thx Joe and Jack Traps! Looks like a great store. I have fished the Monmouth area many times. Is having a metal spool in cold weather with wet fingers and ice ever a problem? If so, maybe dipping the reels in epoxy might help?
Having made a number of ice fishing traps through the years (nothing commercial), my store-bought Polar Tip-ups have worked well with finicky fish, bad weather and lunkers that want to run. I still have those I purchased over 40 years ago in Brewer. Take up less space in my pack and have never failed me.
Presently, I have a new contraption which is more sensitive and visible than my Polar and has an above-ice, mini fishing rod that hopefully will not freeze in above O degrees F (it will work below O, but without the pole). I still am working with some type of alarm system. Does anyone have any ideas on the best daylight ice fishing trap alarm system out there? Hopefully, I can try this out next year.

It costs a ton of money to make apparel and most small businesses try to break even with them if it’s a side thing
