We give you a comparison of how some of the different 15-17 Yamaha YZF-R1 Exhausts sound. We compare the Akrapovic Slip On, the Yoshimura Alpha 3 Quarter Exhaust, the M4 Street Slayer Slip On, the M4 GP Mount Slip On, the Graves Moto-1 Slip On, Hotbodies MGP, the Graves Cat Eliminator and the Arrow Competition Full Exhaust. Let us know which one you think sounds the best. This is slightly updated from our previous comparison video. This video only features exhausts that we installed on our YZF-R1 project bike. This video is for demonstration and convenience only. The best way to really understand what these exhausts sound like is to hear and see them in person.

I love Akapovic.....Very strong sound....

Akra is hands down the nicest sound and light years sexier than the others, if raspy is your bag I’d probably go Arrow.
i think that m4 street slayer exhaust looks the best so sleek instead of those big long exhausts
Does look more sleek but I think longer exhaust systems get more power out of the bike
@@MADLITS1K a slip on does virtually nothing for power. Just sound mostly. All the back pressure is from the exhaust servo and cat. And if those are removed then you need an ecu flash to alter the air and fuel flow to compensate.
Arrow is badass! The Graves sounds like the Hindle evolution thanks for the comparison.
Akrapovic sounds good, and I lick the full Arrow sound and looks except for the carbon hanger that goes right over the Arrow name plate.
Whoa please don't lick the exhaust!
I can never get over how the R1 sounds like a R3 with cranked up bass lol

Recently was told the Arrow exhaust makes the most power with the cross plane but still personally a fan on akra

It would be nice to have a full test with a dyno to have a complementary idea of which is the most efficient in term of sound and performance..!! Thanks anyway for your job with the same bike and the same audio capability..!! Gives a good idea of the the sound.. at least..!
Great idea for sure, we would love to be able to get that done. Just not enough hours in the day to bring a project like that to life. - Van

I know this is a year later, but they are suppliers of Austin or SC so they don’t have the exhaust to test. These videos are to show what’s available through their website.

Curious if you tried a Hindle 3/4 Evolution exhaust on the R1 ? I personally liked the sound of the Graves exhaust in your comparisons, but I’ll probably go with Hindle because they’re Canadian and locally made.
We did not, but we have used Hindle on some of our other bikes are liked the systems. - Van
I know you need to showcase merch but you guys should start building a budget or retro track bike as a long term project.
This is a great idea, just not sure I have the time to make this one happen. We have a new bike on the way soon so stay tuned. - Van

I have the yoshi alpha 3/4 system. Its sounds excellent bit its 108db. I then fitted a longer tri oval yoshi can. That made it 104db. It needs to be under 102db for me to get on track here in the uk so without a baffle i got no chance
It is hard to keep this bike quiet enough to meet these sound requirements. Akrapovic has released an updated Track Day System for this bike that can do 99.3 dB, 100 dB or 105.5 dB depending on the configuration of inserts ran. But in person its very quite
They have updated this muffler a few times to quite it down. The version we installed on the R1 was pretty loud IMO. - Van

Im gonna call you dr. R1 now. I just got my 2019 r1 and i probably watched all of your vids about this bike before i do anything with my bike. If i do the akra slip on, will it be ok if i dont get a reflash or pcv.? I dont want to mess with the warranty. No running lean or anything? Thanks in advance man. Keep up the vids. You do not need to flash the bike or install a fuel controller if you install that slip on. Thanks for watching, happy to hear the videos have been helpful! - Brian Van

Last question doc. How about a cat delete and a slip on? Will i be good to go even without pcv/flash? I will leave the servo still in the bike, im just going to remove the cables, will i get error light in the panel? Will there be overheating issues

Hey brian, quick question. I got the akrapovic linkpipe. Does it accept all these slip ons in terms of fitment? Thank you in advance for replying and as always, great vids especially when it comes to r1 querries.
If the slip on is designed to fit the OEM mid pipe then it should also fit the Akra pipe. It is important to note Akra offers more than one version of this pipe, you need to make sure you have the one that accepts the Akra slip on that will fit on to the OEM mid pipe. - Van

@@sportbiketrackgear since i heared it in zx10R i was amazed and in R1 sound so good too. If I can get my R1 soon it will be M4 or Akra, not too loud not too shaby.

What in you're opinion is the loudest slip on you have available that still as a deep sound ?
With the R1 it will not be super loud if you still have the muffler box on the bike no matter which slip on you use. Best results with a cat elim and a slip on. - Van
Hey van! I have a full akra system with their carbon slip on but is too loud for uk track days even with baffle fitted.
Would an arrow end can be compatible with the akra decat? Or would I need to buy end can and link pipe from arrow TIA

Is a 3/4 yoshi worth it I got a yamaha r1 2017 and I'm trying pick a good sounding slip on I'd go full or 3/4 I was thinking graves
This bike has a very good header from the factory. I ran a 3/4 system on the bike the whole time. - Van
Was there a specific linkage pipe you used for all of those slip ons?
Each of these installs is a complete kit from one brand. We did not mix and match any of the parts. That said you can use the M4 or Akrapovic link pipes with any slip on that is designed to fit the OEM muffler box. - Van

Sound, ? like do you like bass, mid range or treble? or are we looking for total DB. Some race tracks require noise (not sound) levels to be constrained. WHERE DO I FIND THE TOTAL DB LEVEL INFO???

We do not measure the sound levels for a number of reasons. Some of the brands measure the levels while others do not. - Van

Got a 2015 going to be a track bike looking for a muffler that's crazy loud but with a nice deep note. What would you guys recommend please?

serious question. right now im rocking the hindle full system and im looking for a new exhaust for peak power. what full system exhaust is the best? money is no issue.
Hindle makes a solid system IMO, they typically get good numbers on the dyno so it is possible you will not get more power with a different system. If you are committed to getting the absolute most power possible you will need to have someone build a map for the bike once you are done installing the parts. I would start this project by asking your tuner what systems they have seen the best numbers with and go from there. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear gotcha yeah ive had alot done to this bike. it baselined at 155whp and its currently at 194whp. not sure if you have heard of brian livengood but he does all the engine tuning and motor work for westby racing and nate kerns bmws i had him do the tuning on my bike :) very happy with it! he told me the arrow system makes the most hp that hes seen but the hindle had big gains over any of the 3 3/4 systems i had so i guess ill pass on a new exhaust until i want a ti system hah. i have bst rims on the way and im looking into a race stator now. i may be a hp nut xD
would the graves slip on fit on a m4 mid pipe?
Yes as long as it is designed to fit the OEM header it will fit the M4 eliminator pipe. You could install the M4 pipe with the OEM muffler if you want. - Van

The Akrapovic GP Style 3/4 system is the loudest IMO. - Van
How loud is the Graves Moto 1 compared to stock and Akra?
If you use it only as a slip on it is not that much louder the OEM and pretty much the same as the Akra. Most of the sound dampening happens in the OEM muffler box. - Van

The Arch1tect I’ve ridden a few. Super comfortable and incredibly torquey. I highly recommend it
