Very good instruction, even if the person below me said "Nothing new..." for me it WAS new, I've seen Mount escapes before, but NOT this - and the instructions are very clear & the production values are solid. The person shooting this knows where the camera should be & adjusts it so we're always viewing this from the best angle. A HUGE plus! I'm not sure if this was meant strictly for BJJ competitions or Self Defense. I would like to see a "Street Self Defense" version (If that's possible) where the attacker on top would also be throwing punches, which 99% of BJJ instructors NEVER include when they're posting their tutorials. In Street Fight situations if you land on your back in the mount, the guy on top of you will immediately rain down punches, & I would like to see a Mount Escape Tutorial take this into consideration. However, that said, ONE OF THE BEST MOUNT ESCAPES TUTORIALS I'VE SEEN. Thumbs up!!! I'm Subscribing!

    This is powerful stuff.
I am a bigger guy and a bit of a newbie and generally a bit slow with all of this and often find myself on the ground, on my back, getting mounted. Especially by the more experienced guys and faster little guys.
Therefore, I am looking for ways to work from bad positions and turn them into an offense. A lot of these moves are not expected and I think this is an excellent set of moves for exactly that.
People almost always take mount and go grapevines. Because of my size and strength, it doesn't really do much to me except give me time to think. Then they realize it's pointless and start heading for high mount and elbow attacks. My elbows do not tuck in well, so they are juicy prizes waiting for to be plucked.
I have already got some escape sequences from there, but this sequence is perfect for low mount guys. Especially if they think they will wear me out from pressure.
I like the knee shield variant of the straight ankle lock because if you do it right, the knee can be made very powerful and block escape, even for the colored belts.
    Thanks for this sequence.

Very nice video Reilly. I roll gi only but I want to start doing ankle locks. I am old and tired of fighting the young guns for top position so I need to develop attacks from bottom. I watched this video when you first made it and made a mental note to come back to it. I really like the "low ego" vibe coming from you along with crystal clear and thoughtful instruction.

Nice technical leg/foot technique to free foot lock. Its often these tiny details that make the move. Nice finish to inverted straight ankle lock.

Gosh darn, I didn’t even realize this was a possibility. So many avenues and possibilities in Jiu Jitsu, god damn.
