I have fine thin hair, a beautiful strawberry blonde/red. I cut my hair once a year or less and have saved the clippings for decades. My thoughts were that maybe they'd be able to make me a wig with all my clippings when I started thinning bad. I just might try making myself an extension or two after seeing this video! I think what you did is great because using your on hair as extensions, you do not have to worry about it matching, you can use clip ins and create a layer bob and the way you sewed it, looks professional, and you do not have to worry about where the hair came from or if it is 100% human because it is yours; great job ❤
I'm glad I thought about watching videos about hair extensions. So yesterday my son asked me to cut his hair, after a couple of years letting it grow. I cut about fourteen inches and his hair is still shoulder length. Anyhow, this is so cool, I'm going to make my own hair extensions from my son's hair! How cool is that?!!! It’s not weird at all! People spend thousands on virgin natural hair extensions/wigs! I am the weird one lol, I have adhd and ocd so I was wondering how much hair I loose everyday and anytime I shower I don’t let any of my hair go down the drain so I slab it on the wall and toss it but the past couple of days I have saved the longest strands and put them together and I have the beads so I pressed all the hair together and now im wondering if I could eventually have enough to do a weft. My hair is almost too long for my extensions I have now. I will most likely get bored and give up. My hair is 26 inches and I don’t plan to cut it but my hair is thin and I wish for it to be thicker. So if I do decide to make wefts it will be for me. You did a great job!
You could use them to add volume, make a clip-in fringe or long length to cover a fringe for a different look, or you could dye it to fun colours for realistic clip-in highlights!

Very useful, I initially wanted to have a personalized wig made from my mom’s, sisters and daughters hair for my chemotherapy treatments but I was told that I don’t have enough (even with a full bag!). I had this suggestion of clipping the hair on my actual wig, but nobody wants to sow them to secure the hair! I will definitely try your technique so I’ll be able to carry my hole family on my head during chemo! Thanks!
I’m actually paying for my coworkers haircut so I can do this same exact thing for my own extensions! It’s definitely not weird and will last way longer than the synthetic ones !
Uhm- call me stupid but, I’m not really completely understanding. Why on earth, someone would cut their hair only to make themselves hair extensions to put back in their hair makes no sense to me not at all.
@@paulajelen1351extensions are used to add volume or make hair thicker. Also having extensions means you can still have long hair when you want for events but daily you can enjoy easier to manage short hair.
That’s the best hair to use it’s a perfect match I promise I used my moms hair to make extensions one time because it’s a perfect match I still have them plus they are the highest quality

It’s an amazing idea. Think theater groups, using hair from hair dressers maybe, Cos players too, LARPers. I would dearly love to be able to do what you did. Great idea and you are so talented! I'm impressed! I'd love to get a donation of natural white/grey hair made like this for myself. But I am older and growing my hair that long is something I doubt I'd have time to do in this lifetime. I was a hairdresser back in my youth...in the 1980's. Been neat to have known about extensions back then! Never saw or heard them mentioned. Only wigs back in my days. I wish I had beautiful white grey hair like my great grandmother had, and my aunt now has. Mine is uneven and has dark spots that are not at all attractive, so I've gone back to blond...and I hate I did that after growing it out all the way grey. I have had head traumas in life, and I think that spot on the back of my head might be dark d/t that...as I was always naturally lighter haired than that one spot. Strange and ugly. But where it is not much I can do about it. Can't go lighter without it going brassy. Sucks to be me I guess. But you are blessed with such thick and beautiful hair! We all have our own blessings to count.
Thanks for this. I have alopecia and bought an inexpensive headband wig. It is way longer than I want so I was going to cut off about half of it and thought I might be able to make a hat wig using the excess that I cut off from the headband wig. Just didn't know how to make the hair into wefts. This was helpful!

When you are ready to stop coloring and go gray, a few carefully placed extensions would hide the tell- tale skunk stripe until you're ready to cut off the colored hair, and reveal the glorious gray! 😊

Thank you. I had hair extensions years ago that were braided in, but the maintenance was way too expensive and they really didn't look that great. No one I talked to had any idea how to utilize the extensions, now I know how to make them myself as clipons or with combs.
With good hair its so luxurious to be abundant and feels like self betrayal to cut yet the ability to enhance an already full hair looks keeps such a radiant and high spirit so proud of both to which there cannot be a dollar assigned value...priceless great video

I have a cut off ponytail that I kept for years and I‘m thinking of using this technique to make a braid with it to incorporate into braiding styles. It would be much easier to recreate styles from say Game of Thrones since they usually use wigs on TV and nobody has that much hair ☺️

Thank you! I've been calling salons to see about doing this and they all have no idea. My problem is thinning hair... and the longer it gets, the worse it looks. So I thought of cutting about 5" off and using that to add width and volume to my hair in a shorter shoulder length style.

Thanks a lot for this great instruction video. I would never wear wigs or hair extensions from human hair other than my own because hair contains DNA and I find it creepy. However, I was able to make weft from my own hair following your instructions. I cut my hair before my 1st chemo session and since I love my hair I was not ready to part with it. This allows me to continue to look my natural me. I attached the wefts to a headband and all I have to chage is my hat.

I think it is wise to use your own hair because it will blend with your existing hair AND to stitch it with your sewing machine!

Thanks a lot for this great instruction video. I would never wear wigs or hair extensions from human hair other than my own because hair contains DNA and I find it creepy.
However, I was able to make weft from my own hair following your instructions. I cut my hair before my 1st chemo session and since I love my hair I was not ready to part with it. This allows me to continue to look my natural me. I attached the wefts to a headband and all I have to chage is my hat.
I’ve done this with my hair that’s fallen out before. Not weird to me.

Hair fall is hard to collect and organize. I do it but it's an investment. All hairs have to face the same direction.
