1359401 That’s not true. GG have lots of fans all over the world. If you mean criminally underrated as a commercial venture, yes it is, but that was the point, wasn’t?
IT is very true-compared to bands like yes elp genesis jehtro tull pink floyd rush etc-as far as popularity accolades record sales and radio airplay they should have been at the very least as big and well known as those other bands and imo way more well knpwn
Yeah? Well I saw 'em at the Shrine in LA at least three times. 6000 seats, and a near full house every time. No, not Zep popular, but hardly a micro niche.
Man, if I'd have been walking down that street, I'd have had a heart attack. To see four 5ths of the greatest prog band ever standing together after 40 years...!!! GOD how I wish they could play just one more time. I'd to to Antarctica to see that.
me too, but you got to understand they were on the road together for years and years, doing nothing but being Gentle Giant, to get the band to the level they were at (which was the pinnacle of greatness). The music is way too hard to just get together to play again, and they realize that. And they're much older, health stuff an obstacle too. But I share your dream and would travel to Antartica too!
@@rael2099 Agreed. Looks like Kerry Minnear, Derek Shulman, Gary Green and Malcolm Mortimer to me here. That leaves out Ray and Phil Shuman along with John Weathers.
And Phil? He was also a member between 1970-73. (and in Simon Supree 1966-69) I wish they could've done the photo shoot in the south of England so they could've included Pugwash (John Weathers) as well, but he doesn't get around much sadly due to his illness... I do wonder how the small talk between the snaps went between Gary and Derek after Derek made sure to stop Kerry from being part of Three Friends when they started? That was a really douche-bag move on Dereks part and Kerry was forced to quit just to keep the peace... Kerry looked so energetic and happy playing those early gigs with 3F - and I'm forever happy I managed to experience one of the early gigs! That the Shulmans couldn't stop even though they tried... Luckily Gary and Malcolm soldiered on for a few more years and mini tours, but it's been awfully quiet about 3F for the last 5-6 years but I hope they'll spring up somewhere next year when we least expect it?! There were talks of new material being recorded but that's all I've heard. What an awesome band it was back in the days!!!
@@MrFlorical Derek was working on the re-release(s) and didn't want Kerry to be part of 3F. Probably because he wasn't making any money off it... But sticking just to the facts, Derek told Kerry to stop and so he did, using health as an excuse. Gary and Kerry remain friends and Kerry avoided any conflicts, but Derek did do the deed.
the greatest most criminally underated band ever

Only musicians and music nerds loved this band. They had a micro-niche in a music niche. To say you are a Gentle Giant fan is an admission of pride.

yeah, I agree, micro-niche is an exaggeration!

@@JensAndree I've always heard that Kerry left the 3Fs tour because of his health. How was Derek involved?

Where is the rest of the group?
Reunion? Could it be?
er, where's John Weathers?

Where are the rest of the boys ??
It makes me sad to see this once-brilliant, vibrant, band...as a bunch of fragile old men now. 😔
Then...I realise that I'm one too.
