This performance by Whitney always makes me tear up. So powerful and she pulls you into the emotion of the song. I don’t think I’ll witness a talent like this again in my lifetime.
It’s fun watching you guys. Whitney was just a beast. UNMATCHED and UNPARALLELED!!! ❤
YES FINALLY!!!!!!!!! I think I Am Changing shows you how much of an experience a Whitney Houston concert truly was!!❤
Good lord, this is my first time hearing this also. 😳
This is the best live vocal performance by a female singer ever recorded. It’s gotta be
Whitney is just simply the best. This concert was at the Selland Arena and it was 5,908 people in attendance.
Whitney is a storyteller. Always giving the song just what it needs. BUT this is the one song Whitney decided she was going to really show out! And it’s just insane!
Agree. Wow!!! Never heard it until now
As only she could! 👑👑👑👑👑
Still one of the best singers I’ve ever heard.
Whitney - The Voice
I was hoping this would make it..Thissssss is what that voice is…..❤❤❤❤I’ve heard this many months ago…absolutely phenomenal.
I appreciate listening to you two discovering and appreciating Whitney's greatness. She did write/co-write a handful of her songs; they just weren't typically chosen as singles. A couple of examples include Queen Of The Night and Count On Me from The Bodyguard and Waiting To Exhale soundtracks.
It’s fun to watch them. Whitney was just a beast. UNMATCHED and UNPARALLELED!!! ❤
Also, you’re right, Whitney Houston is THEE best live singer of all time. Her live performances are often much better than the recordings and along with her stage presence they make her unbelievable to watch live
U are so right, she is to this day the best live performer….but it’s because she’s not just singing the song, she goes all in and spills out her soul….and u were also right in the way how she can make u feel that you are the only other person in the room as she is singing it to you… this is a very rare recording and I’m so happy you guys loved it and hear how special she was ❤❤
Absolutely amazing! One of my favourite, another great performance is for San Jose
Have y'all listened to Whitney Houston I Love The Lord. She's unmatched singing in Church 🫡
Agree best singer of all time
Wether it’s Whitney or Jennifer Holiday or Jennifer Hudson singing, this song is soooo powerful.
Hudson not in the same sentence neither is Holiday please please please.. there is NO ONE…
I am changing is from the dreamgirls Broadway show (1981) and the 2006 film of the same name which was sung by Jennifer Hudson in the movie and Jennifer Holiday on the 1981 Broadway version
yeah the pauses are even longer and there are more of the 'ME!!'- trippy part. There is video of WH performing this song at Arista Records birthday party. And by the way to give it some context 'I am changing' and 'And I am telling you' are both originally performed masterfully by Jennifer Holliday in Dreamgirls musical. So I would argue, to trully get Whitney early performances you may have to start with Jeniffer Holliday at Tony Awards and it will all make sense;) It explains the 'theatrical' flavour to early WH recordings in my opinion- yes or yes? :)
Well that was a whirlwind of vocal genius!! Her voice at this time had no limits! Like there was no ceiling to it!
Btw, Dionne Warwick is her cousin.
This was after the release of her first album.
Thanks again. Bring on the next.
Yes, she was pausing even longer, there is a version somewhere that’s uncut and it keeps building
So good! I really hope "didn't we almost have it all" saratoga springs is in the top 2 one of her best..
The One the Only WHITNEY! 👑👑👑👑
This song is from dreamgirls, she sang it best but Jennifer Hudson has a more radio friendly version that's really good too! The end grunts were church, yes they cut out some of the pauses and grunts. This was 1 year into her career , she may be opening for Luther vandross here. Her first album came out in 85, but it didn't take off til 86, she shit to superstardom faster than any before or after her.
I think she was just coming up. LMAO, by the time of this concert she had already had 3 number one hits from her debut album which by this point was well on its way to becoming what was then the biggest selling debut album of all time (14 million and counting). her second album released just about a year after this also went on to sell over 10 million copies in the U.S. She Also still holds the record for most number 1 hits in a row with 7. Legend. so sad what happened to her.
There is a video of her singing this live, She was singing for Clive Davis and some special invited guests for a private showcasing of Whitney's extraordinary singing ability right before she dropped her debut album!! You guys definitely have to pull it up and watch it!! Its absolutely Amazing!!😊 It actually was at the Arista Records 10th celebration Celebration Party.
Her performance in that video was not on this level. She sounded really winded.
@@Realviews603 That performance was back in 1984. By the time this performance came along, she had grown into a vocal tsunami and she was well into her legendary status. This is the moment we all knew that this woman singing live is untouchable. Whitney sang so effortlessly and her story telling was unbelievable.
@@Realviews603I think she sounded winded because she couldn’t take her time with the song like she could in this video. The tempo was slower in this one, which allowed her to do some story telling.
Yes there definitely were other powerhouse singers with fabulous vocal ability but just weren’t as famous. There are 4 that immediately come to mind… Miki Howard, Shirley Murdock, and of course thee Phyllis Hyman and thee Lisa Fischer.
Funny you mention the whole Mozart thing…Madonna said Whitney was mediocre because she was jealous of voice. Also Jennifer Holiday who sung this song in the theatre musical called Dreamgirls sent out a message for Whitney to stop singing this…I can’t confirm nor deny that but as someone who was well into adulthood by 1986, I remember this being circulated. Whitney was told by her mom to endure yourself to be a good singer, start by singing gospel because once you can sing gospel there’s nothing you can’t sing. Whitney could sing almost any genre of music…gospel, pop, rocky, RnB, jazz, Broadway and she even did a little bit of opera that stunned Sting and Pavarotti. Whitney is the greatest vocalist of all time.
The Jennifer Holiday story is true.
Dionne Warwick is Whitney’s cousin.
Cool! I miss Whitney so much. An angel!! How do I make suggestions for you? I would love to make a top five of Norwegian music for you! ❤️
I just need to know one thing: did Ryan request Saving All My Love For You (Japan 1991)? Her most sublime performance, evah. Still waiting on Apple Cider to give us a 4K remaster.
overrated version. The London 1986 version with the F5 -G5 belt run is superior and some versions from 1987 and even March 15 1991 is superior
@got2bjosh Best version ever!
No I didn’t, I didn’t pick performances I thought were the best ever, more so my personal favourites. That’s not my favourite version on SAMLFY either
@@ryanhikes 😢
well she does have over 13 songs cowritten😭
saving all my love for you💔 Grammy awards
No, Japan 1991. Accept no substitutes.
@@got2bjosh overrated
@@odumosuolusegun2781 Honestly none of her performances are overrated…
There are many videos of her 1986 tour (only audio), where she sang this and many others song. ALL OF THEM DIFFERENT AND JAW-DROPPING. The ones in Japan for example. You can check’em out. ruclips.net/p/PL4MPGmYsxNfiSIfoFEQ-CPkEiy3gRewm1&si=Ogm5gAjPxsuwcRi-
When do you guys do a celine dion live vocals week
✨⚜️✨💫🫴
I hope you all investigate why all my Madonna requests aren't showing up? Or is it you're just ignoring them and lying about them not sbowing up???? 😢
The ONLY 70s to 83 is Minnie Riperton… and 60s 75 Aretha and her cousin Dionne Warrick and Streisand.. Whitney swallows all the greats 80s to 2024 and going !
Dionne Warwick’s cousin not god daughter 😂
Darlene Love and Shirley Ceasar share as Whitney’s godmother .. ur right Dionne amd her sister DeeDee Warrick are her two cousins both cousins and mom Cissy were GREAT! The Drinkard/Houston Warrick family genealogy goes back to Gospel groups formed 100 years ago or more.. GREATNESS
@ Whitney was born to greatness no doubt about it
she dragged this too much, sometimes just sing the song damn...but otherwise it's exceptional
Someone with this amount of talent NEEDS one or two songs to showcase her range, breath control, and style of singing.
Let my girl show off 😂
