I've said it before and I'll say it again. Jermaine played Dook so well. The kid had heart, so much heart. He'll always be one of my favorite characters from the season.
The Character Kevin on BMF reminded me of Dookie. It was really sad to see what he went through because he was an innocent civilian… same with Dookie and the other kids. I grew up in the 80’s in NYC, we all had a “dookie” and ”Kevin” in public school and those young men never had a chance. Since the wire, media have been showing young men in this light without and resolve on how we can help them be the kings that they are. We all see the emasculation of the black man but it is up to us to make sure these young men grown up to live in their purpose, avoid sucka shit and have knowledge of self.
Bro what are the odds I just started season 4 again and this is uploaded lmao. You guys are legendary, and must be proud to be part of one of the most important pieces of media in human history. I started The Wire thinking it was a police drama, just to be absolutely floored by the end that it was a microcosm of such a large picture of society.
It was great to see them give Jermaine his praise for the work he put in with that character. He deserves an award for that role but it didn't get looked at as true art because the wire was just labeled a black show but it was truly a masterpiece and one of the greatest show every so many amazing characters and stories.
I mean his character in particular has stuck with me out of any of the kids. I forget he was literally a child killing it like that! Randy’s too!!! Coming out of Bmore I guess is why ! Those kids still running around the city😢😢😢😢
What makes this show amazing is because EVERY single character had their own story that we were invested in. We can give credit to the writing but the actors took it to another level. Glad to see you guys still rocking with each other. It’s like a high school clique reuniting and reminiscing. This was so needed!!!!!
THE BOYS!!! Loved this podcast so much, really made my day. My wife and I have 5 cats, named Namond, Randy, Duquan, Mike and Omar (gotta show love to MKW) :-)
The scene where Bunk visits Randy in the group home is my fave ... just because when he was a kid, Randy wasn't street smart enough to know the games cops play ... but in the group home, he kept his mouth shut and knew how they operate, since Carv had told him he would look out for him, and he ended up getting beat up and landing in a group home
Craziest part about that whole part is that it was showing Randy turn into Bodie. Every kid had a parallel character by the end of the show. Dukie became bubbles, Namond becomes Clay Davis (They even had Clay Davis and Namond say the exact same line at different times). The writing on this show was something else.
Facts I don't think people understand the blueprint this show created for all of the current shows we watch today. From POWER, SNOWFALL, THE CHI etc. and not to mention has bread great, if not the best Black actors today who are still acting in our favorite current shows. RIP Michael Williams and Lance Reddick. Daaaamn there will never be another on like The WIRE. They set the bar with this one.
crazy how the kids on The Wire held their own with and even outshined professional, well respected adult actors. Season 4 was the most emotional by far and these boys were at the heart of it
i can't think of better performances by child actors, thats why season 4 will always be my favorite one. appreciate y'all sharing these stories, stay blessed!
Best part of this to me was that apology.... as a black man who struggled with taking accountability or "owing up" i think it's important to see other black men being fully transparent with each other 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
Man this makes my heart smile to see you guys together in this setting. MAESTRO the Randy character the one that made me want to jump through the TV and choke all of the adults that failed him. I saw so much of my childhood, families, and experiences through you all. You guys are like my lil brothers and you just don't know it. Love to see it!
I call yall the “kids” season and the kids were one of my favorite seasons. Heartbreaking. I’m from DC and to see such a local display of my neighboring Baltimorean’s was beautiful. Good job fellas! ❤
Julito has such a sense of empathy and emotional maturity towards Jermaine that it’s admirable for any man that has not only experienced hardships but has also experienced the growth needed to be supportive of his fellow man.❤
I can’t believe I rocked out almost three hours with y’all! It was amazing to see you actors as grown men reflecting on your time together on what is an amazing project. I was an educator in a Baltimore City high school and watching your characters’ trajectory was, in some cases, heartbreaking. The work you all did was top notch.
Yall have no idea how much I love this right now. Yalls season inspired me to become a teacher and I always sing the praises of this season. I continuously tell people that season four is the best season of television in history and I will die on that hill.
The dude I work for had never seen "The Wire" and we just started Season 5. Amazing show and you guys added such a unique element that isn't usually found in this genre. Glad to see y'all are doing well.
What a great way to start my Mother's Day!! The Wire...what a time to be alive🔥. I remember after the 1st season seeing Idris lost in Harlem and trying to give him directions. Also, Johnny Nunez bringing Marlo (Jamie H.) to my Cinco De Mayo brunch. Running into Omar (Michael) at all the parties... the culture needed this podcast #BoysofSummer #GooniesNeverDie 🔥🔥🔥 #keepgoing ❤
This was everything too me. These young men and the talent they displayed on the show 🔥🔥💔. That Dukie makes me cry to THIS DAY! I wanted to rescue him 😭😭😭
Way to go Maestro!!! I've watched all 53 of your podcast. This goes on my list of favorites. I can hardly wait for Tristan to join you guys the next time. Keep them coming!!!

NAHH YALL ARE GOATED FOR THIS. I feel yall should bring in cast members from the show to speak on their favorite episodes and which one touched them the most.
let’s start by saying that these young men are part of the greatest show no matter the genre or subject matter to ever be filmed.. their acting made it so realistic and they were babies.. amazing, heartbreaking, realistic, endearing and unforgettable
I've rewatched The Wire probably 6 times and S4 is definitley my favorite. Tremendous writing and all of you "little hoppers" were amazing. Looking forward to see what you all continue to do in the future.
The Wire was and still remains the most Reality based perspective of life for Black people in inner cities across America. Season 2 also showed the realities of other ethnicities, and their experiences. The Sobotkas and the Greeks business arrangement and storyline was super important to the success of the show. It's hard to pick a favourite season of The Wire, but Season 4 may well be it. I've watched and re-watched it at least 5 times, and you guys gave it so much heart. It's crazy that I can watch something where you were all just kids, and at no point do I stop and think, "this is just acting" -- it feels completely real. The casting was perfect, and all of the characters could've had successful lives had it not been for their circumstances. Season 4 being focused on the kids also reminds me of Ella Thompson (RIP) from The Corner and all of the people out there who make the sacrifices for their community that keep the lights on. I’m from London UK and hands down The Wire is the greatest piece of art, ever! Big up to you ‘Corner Boys’, you help to make The Wire as great as it is!
I got a chance to work with David Simon when I got out of the Air Force. I remember telling him that Boys of summer was my favorite season because that was the most relatable to my experiences growing up in New Orleans. I got hurt in Iraq in late 05. I went through 2 years of therapy at Walter Reed in DC and had 16 surgeries a Johns Hopkins but I'll never forget September of 06 when that season aired. It got me through a lot.
watching this got me so emotional. I’m not go lie this conversation so beautiful and heartwarming. im only 23 but Yall boys’ performances inspired me to analyze & appreciate storytelling from multi dimensional perspectives. I want to write television because of season 4. yall will never understand but 💐💐💐💐💐 Man. yall deserve the highest levels of praise and admiration
I've watched The Wire countless times, like most people here watching this. This was SO delightful in so many ways. Seeing these men grown up, so transparent, so honest and organically speaking, continuing to bond, and continuing to create. I love the support of each other and I love them talking about The Wire and what it's meant to them. I'm so glad that it was a good experience for them and they can speak so fondly of that time. Thanks you for this Maestro, Julito, Jermaine!
The 4th season is when I found this show. That was YEARS AGO! I now watch it every year! I love this damn show. If it was as big back then as it is now. We might’ve gotten more seasons.
So, I first started the wire live on season four. You four were my introduction to the whole series. I’ve rewatched the show multiple times since then and I always have the same feeling when I start season four: this is the new generation of everybody that is a main character on the show. I could sit here and go on and on about it but, I just want to say that I’m proud of y’all from where you started to where you are now. It’s amazing to see these photos and videos from back then and hear these stories. Dookie was an intricate character on the show and it was truly heartbreaking to see him fall into the loop rather than get out of the hood and become something better. Randy and Namond’s stories I think kinda played out the way most thought and Michael, I knew was going to be the next hitman. I wish they had developed another season with more on y’all’s characters but I’m glad they didn’t water it down with more seasons. I hope the next time y’all get to record a “reunion” that Tristan gets to pull up. I met him randomly while he was filming “swagger” and I was ridiculously hype. Peace and blessings and continued success to you guys
Every season of the wire was fire but season 4 was a moment in time for me in real life. The show was fire and I was 21 just getting out into the real world.Salute
You guys did something special and rarely done. The Wire was already great although few knew it at the time, but in Season 4 - you brought art to life, and made life a work of art. For many of us, The Wire was more like a documentary, than a tv series. We were gripped, shocked, sobered, heartbroken, reminded, angered, betrayed by personal emotion, changed, all of it, and we couldn't unsee it! Thank you all for your commitment and authenticity. Salute!
It's so amazing that one series can cultivate over 20+ years of great conversations. It was that phenomenal of a show. Layers upon layers to unpack. Season 4 was my favorite. It brought home how much ones childhood plays such a crucial role in who someone will be as an adult. I am so proud of each and every one of you guys. Many blessings to you all for years to come ❤
Really appreciated this. S4 of the Wire is still to me the best season of the greatest TV show of all time, and that was mainly because of you guys. Thank You. Good luck to yall and your future endeavors.
You guys were my favorite season of the wire I can never make it through y’all season without crying the pain and hurt thank you for shining a light on black children who grow up in rough inner cities Like I did
I just gotta say, you guys made something special, something that touched our souls. Yeah it was gritty and gangster but I had soul and it was sometimes funny. You guys are great actors. Thanks for that.
Season 4 was when I started watching the wire. After going back and watching all the seasons. Season 4 the best season fr. Seeing this made my day yall goated fr 🔥🔥🔥
I was a bit young when the Wire came on, and for almost all my life since, I’ve been wanting to watch this damn show. I’ve watched so much commentary on it over the years, that if I spent that much time watching the actual show, I’d be done by now! Love this reflection y’all did! Keep it coming!
RIP to Omar and Prop Joe.. I remember when I met Namond in Time Square and season five was about to drop, I was soooo freaking intoxicated and I’m just like Hey Namond and he looked , kinda shocked, I think I might have yelled at him 😂but he was nice I asked him two questions about the show he didn’t answer 😂 but he did offer to take a picture but I was drunk so nah but he was sweet.
Reflecting on this podcast and reminiscing about "The Wire's" portrayal of children navigating the gritty streets of Baltimore takes me back to my own upbringing. Growing up in Harm City, I forged strong bonds with friends and associates who eventually went their separate ways. Yet, those of us who remain always find it easy to reconnect, speak on the ones we've lost, meanwhile slipping back into our carefree ways and boyish endeavors whenever we're together. Recently, I returned to town unannounced and unexpectedly encountered a childhood friend in traffic. Despite the late hour, we found ourselves pulled over immersed in conversation, standing on the street corner, observing the pulse of West Baltimore at 1 am. It's not the safest place to linger, but he's my buddy, and time is ticking away; we're not getting any younger. Living out of state means I rarely see them, so it's a risk worth taking for the chance to catch up and reminisce about old times!
@@hybrid1339 oh for real? Them boys had the real grit and emotion. They did a lot for the show, they really made it hit home. I grew up just like them in the Bay Area in California, Id say if you put both of them together as one person , that’s my life. I was that dirty kid, with way too many adult responsibilities when it came to my little sister, but I was hard as hell..

Every season of the wire was fire but season 4 was a moment in time for me in real life. The show was fire and I was 21 just getting out into the real world.Salute
Season 4 was my favorite
I love everything about this. To see yall grown is crazy. To be an adult and we all in the same age range is even crazier. This show was life changing
Loved it. Y’all lowkey calling Mack Hollywood though. lol😂
Hey man.. all SBI podcast are rooted in fact one way or another lol 😉Appreciate the love🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 means a lot
Its crazy how i remember that entire 106 and park episode so vividly 😂
You guys did something special and rarely done. The Wire was already great although few knew it at the time, but in Season 4 - you brought art to life, and made life a work of art. For many of us, The Wire was more like a documentary, than a tv series. We were gripped, shocked, sobered, heartbroken, reminded, angered, betrayed by personal emotion, changed, all of it, and we couldn't unsee it! Thank you all for your commitment and authenticity. Salute!
Can we get a part 2? I like how yall were breaking down other films. It’s dope to hear the perspective from black actors like yourselves.
Many blessings to you all for years to come ❤
@1:39:20 That apology was deep. He’s probably been waiting for that for soooo long. Damn😢💪🏽🫡♥️
Awesome Podcast. I just finished watching The Wire all 5 seasons for the first time. Great Acting to everyone.
Really appreciated this. S4 of the Wire is still to me the best season of the greatest TV show of all time, and that was mainly because of you guys. Thank You. Good luck to yall and your future endeavors.
Are they in season 5?
@@donovanjohnson4279 yes
@@donovanjohnson4279 randy and nayman appeared in season 5 for one scene each and Duquan played a more noticable role on par with Michael

I just gotta say, you guys made something special, something that touched our souls. Yeah it was gritty and gangster but I had soul and it was sometimes funny. You guys are great actors. Thanks for that.

I was a bit young when the Wire came on, and for almost all my life since, I’ve been wanting to watch this damn show. I’ve watched so much commentary on it over the years, that if I spent that much time watching the actual show, I’d be done by now! Love this reflection y’all did! Keep it coming!
Boys of Summer was a Don Henley song back in the day lol
Shit crazy man cus I’m only 37 but I still look at them like they still the same lil kids from the wire Powerful show and performances by these people
RIP to Omar and Prop Joe..
Great episode!! Take a bow fellas. Y’all led arguably the best season of an all-time great tv show. The Wire. Shout out to the boys of summer.

I’m so glad I came across this!! I loved “ The Wire”! Season 4 was my favorite season!
I used this show for a couple classes I taught! The students always love season 4. Thank you so much for your hard work
Thank you for sharing means so much!
Duke , and Michael were the best characters on the show when we’re talking about the kids.
They are cousins in real life as well
@@hybrid1339 oh for real? Them boys had the real grit and emotion. They did a lot for the show, they really made it hit home. I grew up just like them in the Bay Area in California, Id say if you put both of them together as one person , that’s my life. I was that dirty kid, with way too many adult responsibilities when it came to my little sister, but I was hard as hell..
You gotta give a special mention to Donut.. he was the unofficial comic relief lol
@@hybrid1339mikes related to method man too
@NajeeMckay no he not related to meth ,he just knew method man since he was a kid...Mike's father had a barbershop and he would cut wu tang members heads...but mike not related to meth...but him and dukie are cousins for real
