I am basically of the opinion that anything that is sinful or taboo under the golden order is something Marika did in her quest for supremacy/godhood:
The crucible? Yeah she allied herself with Godfrey and his crucible nights.
Destined death? Yeah she probably killed a couple of gods an demigods on her way to the top.
Artificial life/albinaurics? Yeah she might have created Radagon.
Tarnished? Yeah they were pretty useful in battle.
So considering that the first Cardinal sin is burning the erdtree, that snakes are a sign of heresy and that dragon communion is a grave transgression? Yeah Marika probably burned another erdtree using her boy Messmer, a drake knight who is also part snake.
Very interesting theory.
In the trailer they say "They were never saints". So, who knows. There's definitely a lot of connections to sin, especially the burning of the Erdtree. Personally I believe the original Erdtree was burned for some reason and the golden tree is an illusion under the golden order
Could the golden appearance of the erdtree be to hide the fact that the real one is strangling out the old tree? Like maybe society wasn’t cool with her burning the old tree, or maybe because it wasn’t fully dead, marika is using the illusion to hide that she basically stealing the power from the old tree as it tries to regrow. Could also be why she doesn’t like crucible stuff, as maybe it shows the old tree, that she is trying to suppress, regaining power
The Old Tree was before Marika's one was a Pine.
i agree with your analysis
You mean the Shadow Tree we see in the dlc sky is the real Erdtree and it is strugling the old tree? It looks like it's two trees but Miyazaki refered to it as one, so maybe the two trees became one new tree?
Bro I was just about to type this, the gold tree seems like an illusion, if you look at the shot in Morgots boss arena with the tree burning it seems that only the golden part is burning not where it isn’t golden close to the entrance. Maybe the “Erdtree” is just a parasite strangling the old tree and the veil is to hide the fact that the gold tree is an illusion to create a religion in which the dead are buried at the foot of the Erdtree feeding the parasite and in turn giving the greater will (marika) power
It might be worth noting that the Helphen is also known as a "lampwood," and is a tree with a light similar to grace that's said to guide spirits after death. The Helphen steeple sword has a somewhat similar branching design, and may or may not also be connected to the Deathbirds.
Oh I've been all over that, I'll talk about it soon.
A first tree being burned to make way for a new one is the basis of my theory that the old man statues in the capital and roundtable hold are actually a burned kindling maiden. If Marika had to burn her own daughter it makes sense she'd be portrayed in Saint like statues
I'm currently fixated on the Black Knives being obscured in the same way the Shadowlands are; Numen like Marika, and that's where "she first set foot".
Yep I've been thinking about that too! Can't wait to get more on Marika's story.
Have you heard about the link with the Baldachin's Blessing?
@@fastenedcarrot9570Didn't Miyazaki say in an interview that the huge baldachin in the sky is representative of the seal Marika placed on the shadow lands?
I could be wrong, but it looks like the baldachin is emanating from the tree itself, very much like how the Erdtree in the base game emanates those golden rays of light.
The Fish Hunter! Great vid ❤
Love it! My only speculative critique is that the parasitic tree is definitely not the erd tree. The Golden erd tree in the Lands Between is straight, leaning, and has all its branches reaching up at the top. It is exactly represented as the tree being strangled. I save my speculations based on this visual evidence. But the strangled tree must be what was protected/sustained, either as Marika wished or in spite of her wishes, which will be determined in-story.
Good point! I almost took that part out because it didn't really click, but I really like your thoughts here.
Havent seen anyone talk about this yet but the tree in the shadow realm is actually TWO seperate trees. There is an erdtree being wrapped and broken by a 2nd twisted serpent tree. 100% tree on tree violence. Also, in the painting of the old man and the woman, the woman is pregnant. Marikas mother maybe? Marika herself and messmer was her first born?
Good soundtrack choice. Blasphemous 2
im here for this.
Damn I can not wait!
I had this same thought about half an hour before this was uploaded lol. My thought process was all of Messmer's anti-Erdtrer stuff coupled with the line from the trailer "Those stripped of the Grace of Gold shall all meet death in the embrace of Messmer's flame"
Awesome ideas
Good stuff.
What's intersesting and I don't see much talk about it, it's the link between dung eater, the wiker man, the sun symbol, dung eaters sword and the giants. The dung eater also looks like a prehistoric human underneath his armour (thanks to zullie)
Sun worship was a very common practice in ancient pagan religions. With Marika's Golden Order being in part inspired by Christianity, it makes sense that there were so many other ancient cultures in Elden Ring in opposition to the Erdtree, like the Godskins, the Crucible, the Deathbirds, the ancestral spirits (again very pagan-like, the worship of nature, animals and spirits) and the celebrants of Dominula village (based on the pagan maypole dance).
Have you heard of Quelaag? The RUclipsr, not the DS1 boss. She does really deep lore dives based on real life history and archaeology, I'd recommend checking it out if you haven't.
@bilbobaggins9167 ya I have. She's great I'm just pointing out that dung eater specifically has alot of imagery to the shadowlands.
Reply to me so I'll feel alive mate. Absolutely love your stuff. It's the Elden Ring release all over again :)
After staring at the image of the shadow erdtree since the trailer its hard not to see a hand gripping the tree from the top left and squeezing out the sap. Take another look!
Maybe Radagon came from the shadow lands with that golden host.
I think that Marika used Melina, her first demigod daughter, to burn the greattree, turning Melina hostile towards the deathless new order, leading to the Godskin Apostles.
I feel like Marika may have or Messmer did. He probably did and disfigured his Sister Melena and for that action when Merika ascended to Godhood and left the Land of Shadows she left Messmer behind? This is some loose theory I have.
My theory is messmer and Melina are twins of their father who maybe part gaint, and if so Marika use both her kids to burn down both trees.
In a previous video i theorized that the Giants are from the land of shadows sent to mountains tops as punishment, maybe the burning bodies are slayed gaints... What better wood to burn then that of those of flames
I desperately want a ending where we can restore the Crucible/Greatree.
!!!Clavada!!!
Could you talk about something that EVERYONE is over looking ? The fact that Ranni says " I was entrusted this for thee by Torrents former Master " when she gives you the summoning bell. There's so much that is implied by that now that we know Miquella was Torrent's former master. Mainly that Ranni and Miquella have very close connections, which is never talked ever again besides both of them being Emperyans
Maybe you're just not looking in the right place? I've seen dozens of videos dedicated to speculating on Ranni and Miquella's relationship ever since the first image for the dlc came out
Interested i guess i haven't @bilbobaggins9167
Miyazaki said the DLC occurs during the same time as the base game. Famitsu interview
He also said that similar to the Shattering of the base game, we would learn about Marika’s ascension to godhood and the birth of the Erdtree. I didn’t say anything about time travel.
Please make a longer video. Your views are very interesting 🤔
*without watching*
I think this theory holds weight based on Melina alone.
a Kindling Maiden? In an Order where Burning the ErdTree is a Big No No?
somethings off....
No, I believe Melina was initially given the purpose to burn this Precursor Tree
and Marika brought her back in the Current Game to burn the Erdtree once again
explaining the potential origin of her and her purpose she "long ago lost"
GAME OF THE YEAR 2024
Don't think there was an old tree. The erdtree grew from what was left from the probably dead god the dragons followed, and placideseax communes too beyond time.
Yeah I think that’s pretty solid.
For the Algorithm 😊
Fun fact, watching this video makes you 6:36 closer to Shadow of The Erdtree release
