Dr. Rosa if someone is a senior and they have normal homocysteine, CRP and fasting insulin but they have excess fat on their stomach and love handles with a normal BMI is that still indicative of an overall unhealthy situation.

Yes. It might be excessive visceral fat. Definitely a good reason to get an abdominal mri without contrast.

Dr Rosa, I am not overweight, have a normal BMI and have been intermittent fasting to try to remove love handles and belly fat. I have lost 5 pounds so I am now underweight but have not lost significant visceral fat. Why would that be?

Dexa scans and smart scale can also measure visceral fat. How accurate are they compared to MRI?

They are difficult to compare. As they do a measurement of the whole fat, muscles, bones and level of hydration together. MRI is a visual method. That allows to quantify and anatomically discriminate the fat in the body. And engage the client senses better than numbers only. Hope this helps. 🙏🏻
