If you will cut it 3/4" larger all the way around, no matter if its square or to shape. Square is easier. Then cut it from the backside removing 3/4" of Gypsum, while leaving the paper in the front. Then you don't need to use paper tape. Just add some mud around the hole. Then set the paper flange you just created in the mud, and the skim the front edge with Mud. Sand and paint

That would work and be easier
This kind of fun to watch though.
Yes...especially since a square of 2 x 2 drywall would get a cleaner match up to the studs and less mudding and work...ughhh this guy is wasting a lot of time
Absolutely. This is too convoluted and time consuming.
Between lunch breaks, it actually took this guy 24 hours to complete this job
☕️
no lunch until you're finished with your arts & crafts, timmy!
@@TimApple.Name checks out lol
That's clever. Still easier to square off the hole though. I'd still be looking for my packaging tape long before just finishing that by squaring it off.
When I saw the shape of the crash I involuntarily remembered the first episode of Regular Show.😂😂😂😂
He really looks like him.😂😂
When you make 14$ an hour so you turn a 5 min task into a 30 min job 😂
When you ask an engineer to repair drywall…
This contractor gave me IKEA vibes
You know nothing John Snow!
😊😊
My boy is trolling everyday 😂
I use a hole saw. As long as diameter of the patch is small enough. Usually a 6 inch diameter. Take the hole saw and make the patch circular. Then use the hole saw to cut a plug out of a piece of new drywall. Works good😊
@NotchaBizness drama queen
You made your job 2 times harder.
why, because he didn't go with a square shape?
@@wolves. could have saved himself about half the time it took if he'd have just used a squared piece, traced it onto the wall, etc.
@@denvernow7294 yeah i get that. People are ruthless in the comments 😂 i garantee this guy knows about the square piece method but the clear tape is kinda clever. You never know if one day you'll be in a situation that calls for that. Doesn't hurt to know
Indubitably
@@wolves. Excellent comment 👍
I've always just cut a square or rectangle piece of drywall and traced the patch piece onto the wall. It gives nice straight lines.
that's because it's the only logical way of doing it. there is no correct way, but one has a lot more common sense than the other
My boss would have a lot aneurysm if i did that lmao
If you will cut it 3/4" larger all the way around, no matter if its square or to shape. Square is easier. Then cut it from the backside removing 3/4" of Gypsum, while leaving the paper in the front. Then you don't need to use paper tape. Just add some mud around the hole. Then set the paper flange you just created in the mud, and the skim the front edge with Mud. Sand and paint
AKA the "California Patch" aka Butterfly Patch, aka several other names. Much more appropriate for a job this small.
@@tomm8025so thats what they mean by California patch.
100 percent.
Perfect example of what not to do
What will you do then
W
@@siruno6024 just make the hole a square.....he made it unnecessarily hard
Well, technically it's a superior technique but also the added benefit doesn't justify the amount of effort put in. The square edge might require more mud to blend but this exact cutout will require less and blend better with less mud.
@@JA-ru3il calling it mud is one way to prove you've no clue what you're talking about
Much better than early 70s, just cram newspaper in and plaster over it!
I still do that.... lol
That explains a confusing core memory I was too lazy to solve lol Thanks!
Lmao I remember 🤣 ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Bruh, I kid you not, I've taken out newspapers from the 80s from those holes.
I think one of them had some comic that looked familiar. Garfield, I think.
Indeed, hello Tornado, bye bye American wooden house.
He did it bad because he knows the video was gonna generate a lot of views/comments 😂. He’s smart
Ok now we need a tutorial for those holes left in the wall
Caulk. Paint. Sand. Paint
Putty....sand it when dried....now paint
Just fill it in with skim coat… sand and paint

This guy probably makes every aspect of his life way more complicated than it needs to be.
I just mounted my TV recently and this has me wondering if it was really a stud I screwed it into😂
Good point. Why put timber in there and confuse the homeowner when paper will do the job just fine.
I always make sure I see wood shavings on my drill bit before I actually screw the mount in. For this very reason😂
You can still go upward a foot or so, drill another screw and determine if you hit the stud.
Just cut a square, stud to stud. Then, place a square piece that spans between the two studs. Then spackle and tape those seams. Everything will be nice and even, and you won't have as many steps to follow
Sounds like a waste of resources for something like this
Nice and even? Wont the tape be visible?
I usually do a rectangle with a beveled edge. But that's cool.
My dad telling me it's a waste of time to cut it square, the difference is you didn't have to do it in the end.
The cali patch is superior
Wrong
I usually do a "California patch" but this one was pretty cool
Fr cali patch is way quicker especially if you jus got rock, mud and tape w you
Cali patch is definitely the way to go. If You don't and use an eggshell or gloss finish You see it. California patch everything is even. And He won't get but a few puffs of a cigarette before I'm finished either.
Florida contractor’s be like:
Very satisfying repair !
Someone please call Mr George…. Guy made that way more than it had to be.
I woulda done the rectangle cut out but I'll tell you what, its a great idea to keep in mind, thanks!
Everyone hating but I thought it was pretty smart honestly!
@@tmghp it’s smart in that it’s a creative approach
It is not smart in terms of how to use your time. It’s neither more effective nor more efficient than cutting it square. It made the job take at least twice as long.
@@MaximusTheChosenOne I agree 100%, I’d never do it like that, just thought it was cool

I mean it works, also more satisfying.
I give it 8/10
And like that, tore all the tape joint material off right at the very end of shaping. Almost had a California Patch.
I know what ya mean! What I'd have done is use 5 minute mud after the back-block went in
best part
Always somebody that has a more complicated way of doing simple things.
