Great video. Thanks for making this. It's Aug 2020 at time of this writing. I know there are certainly more modern radios than this now, but I just bought an 80PRS. it was on sale, so I couldn't resist. Plus, I was going after sound quality more than anything else. Newer features on more modern radios didn't matter to me. Thanks again for making this video.
I don't understand what is meant by deck power. Where is the power being measured from? Is this the internal amp power output? Weren't the rca outputs measured already?
I am using 80prs in network right now and I was getting distortion light on subwoofer rca out at 60 on smd dd1 when using provided smd test tone tracks.... Are you using the -0db test tones for your tests.... And are you completing these tests in network mode?.... And do you suggest using cd to set the gains and just add the sla to match high out put signal on other inputs.. or take the lowest volume for distortion and set gains off that number so it's safe across all inputs with no distortion?
I just set mines at volume 57 with -5 dB track on 1k and -10db for 40hz. Sounds good to know my safe number I can go is 50 without a problem and it's pretty loud. Also I have the internal amp turned off. Don't know if you will get a different reading when it is turned on while using preouts.
Running active now with rf t600-2 on hertz ml 1650.3 and t400-2 on hertz ml 280.3. Sounds really loud at 50. People are saying it's clear and can hear it outside. I have the windows up.
When I attempt to replicate this test in network mode I get twice the voltage on my rca sub out then the other channels(2.2vs4.4v), no EQ. Any suggestions?
Question: If my head unit doesn't clip/distort at max volume, like the 80prs, can I calibrate output voltage at the speakers with max volume, or do I calibrate at 3/4 volume?? The problem I am having is that when I calibrate the calculated voltage (V = P^2/R) with max volume of 62, my system is not loud enough. The last volume numbers (from 59 to 60 to 61 to 62) correspond to biggest voltage increases. I have about 50W RMS going into each coaxial speaker and when I check output voltage, with no gain, it is already higher than my calculated voltage. I know it's a hard one, please Help!!
I get a similar issue. I have the same HU in my E90. Currently have MBquart components up front running to a 4 ohm load, Pioneer coax in the rear shelf again running to a 4ohm load. The underseats are Audison APBMW running to a 2ohm load. Couple of things I had noticed. When testing for max volume at the headunit, depending on where I connect, it clips at different volumes, so for the sake of argument, on the front channels it clips at 59 out of 62 on the rear it clips at 60 out of 62 and on the sub it clips at 58 out of 62. This part is fine, I just stick to 57 and plug the RCA's into the amplifier. When I hook my mini oscope to the speaker output channels, even before touching the gains, I have to turn the volume down at the headunit to 47-50 in order to get a clean signal. It's as though the amp can't take the strength of the signal coming in. There is a switch on the amplifier that says "Low, HI1,HI2" and the manual says to use the setting at Low if using line level signal. Now the thing is on the sub channel, I don't need to touch the gain at all and the other two I need to slightly. I have tried on both the HI channels of the amp but still have the same issue. The amp is a 5 channel JBL GTR 7535. The second dilemma is when I run the autoeq for the unit it sets the rear and fronts to a HP of 125hz at a 12db slope and the underseats to an LP of 80hz at 18db slope. Those settings are fine but it then sets the underseats to stereo when I have connected them in parallel to give me a two ohm load. I end up changing it back to mono to fix that. The other thing is that the autoeq never gives you a curve that you can adjust and the underseats simply over power the fronts.
How does the SLA +3 impacting early adjusted gain at amplifier ? Also if am using BT from my mobile with SLA 0 then what volume should I adjust on my mobile to have sound with no distortions?
I love your videos guys.....question I have a pioneer DEH-80PRS DSP MODE ...STD .. and ......NV ... what is the difference I do not understand this.... Thank you..
Great Vid!!! the 1khz And 40hz is kinda limiting considering there are way more than two frequencies in music. Also with tones there is no Dynamics so music will not register the same voltage output as tones. Either way super cool vid very informative 😀
Can pioneer 80prs deliver full sound quality if I play music through bluetooth from my android phone? I think it's bluetooth protocol is very old to deliver nice sound output.
Great video guys. Hey Dean, will the SQ of the factory XM radio improve in a 2016 Toyota Highlander using an LC7I? It currently has the standard factory system in it. Thanks.
Cool you did 40Hz and 1kHz. I did some tests on this head unit as well in the past - I tested Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6s Plus, USB thumb drive and CD - ruclips.net/video/ZKFs2w8Lbts/видео.html
+BigDWiz yeah I liked your video and because of it I did not want to make this one. Fernando on the other hand was driving me crazy to make it. BTW really enjoy your show. The bonus after credits are great
+BigDWiz I would be lying if I said I did not get the idea for the videos from watching your amp dyno videos. We were answering a question one day and I said we should do an Old School video like video. Collab would be cool for sure! Thank you.
Hi guys thanks for your videos. I've learned a lot from Them! I have a question. Maybe even someone else can answer me. So I have this head unit and have been using it in standard mode since I got it about a month ago. Planning to try out the network mode with my set up. My question is, can I use the same eq settings that I'm using in standard mode or will the settings be completely different since we have a lot more control over each speaker in network mode?
David Christopher i think it clips at 37 on stock setting on radio ... you can go plus 2 and radio distorts at 34 i think they have a video similar to the 5800 and they said its the same to other similiar models
I’m not sure if I did something wrong. Because my results are completely different than the video. Basically using an actual USB stick with DD-1 files. Using -5 and -10 tracks for mods and sub Mac deck volume is 62 without distortion. If I even move SLA up +1 it distorts. That’s before setting the gains on mids and sub amp, internal amp is off also.
Check your amplifier specs to find the input sensitivity of your amplifier. If your amp, say, has input sensitivity of 0.2-4.0V at the RCA Input (Example - Ref: Rated Power at 4ohms), AND you have a head unit like the 80prs that is able to deliver 5V clean power, you are going to overdrive the amplifier, causing distortion.
What is meant by deck power? Internal amp to distortion? Wondering because Im going to be using deck to run my mids/highs and RCA for sub amp, don't want to roll with 62 volume thinking its clean on the other speakers

I have this in my 2005 GMC truck regular cab. it's amazing.
nice thorough video. I liked it a lot. Subbed!
meade916 yo meade when you doing another video on the zv5s ?
+meade916 thank you Steve!
Five Star Car Stereo well the channel is definitely official now with the legendary Steve Meade916 stopping by
hey i ordered a dd1 thank you very much. Can you do an amplifier drag with the skar 200.4 vs the sundown 200.4 pretty please
One of my favorite CD players of all time, also very popular
How about in Network mode? Can you do another with network mode and see if the preout voltage is still low without SLA?!?
Please do one with the alpine that's in line with the pr 80 looking forward to seeing it thanks.
I don't understand what is meant by deck power. Where is the power being measured from? Is this the internal amp power output? Weren't the rca outputs measured already?

+riceandpho safe numbers, like safe words, are a good thing

Did Fernando work at Rockford fosgate? I have a power 500 from 2002. And it was tested by Fernando Lopez I was wondering if it was the same person.
When I turn off the internal amp I lose my mids and highs and only have output coming from my subs. Is this because I'm in network mode?
Nice vid. Were all settings on the head unit flat?
When I attempt to replicate this test in network mode I get twice the voltage on my rca sub out then the other channels(2.2vs4.4v), no EQ. Any suggestions?
5 Star Car Stereo, do you guys have any SMD DD1 in stock? I can't find 1 anywhere there all sold out.
Can you radio dyno the kenwood ddx9903s

Was this test done with the switch on bottom of headunit Lo or HI RCA switch
Please, help me on this one: what is deck power? what does it mean? Does it refer to the internal amp power maybe?
had the same question in mind but then I ve read your comment. The suggestion you ve made is the most logical and convincing
I love your videos guys.....question I have a pioneer DEH-80PRS DSP MODE ...STD .. and ......NV ... what is the difference I do not understand this.... Thank you..

How with this compare in terms of sound quality to the alpine CDE 149 trying to decide which receiver to buy
Thx for the info
I tested my prs 80 and nearly gets two volts to get more volts I had to raise my entire eq why is that
Can pioneer 80prs deliver full sound quality if I play music through bluetooth from my android phone? I think it's bluetooth protocol is very old to deliver nice sound output.
Great video guys. Hey Dean, will the SQ of the factory XM radio improve in a 2016 Toyota Highlander using an LC7I? It currently has the standard factory system in it. Thanks.
+Brian Miles the Xm will never sound good. Their compression is terrible for sound quality.
how many watts is that??

You guys added so much info in your test, I think the vids complement each other well. Maybe we can do a collab sometime? Keep up the awesome work 👍
+BigDWiz I would be lying if I said I did not get the idea for the videos from watching your amp dyno videos. We were answering a question one day and I said we should do an Old School video like video. Collab would be cool for sure! Thank you.
+BigDWiz you guys should collab and try to grow the audio community
DD1, DD1+ and CC1 meters can not be used in Network mode with the DEH 80PRS.
Why not? I just soldered the pico fuse and my dd1 works fine
What test tones are u using for this test?
0db? -5db?-10db? :)
love this. really want to see the Sony MEX-M100BT
I tested mine. I get over 6 volts sla on 4 clean. Can even round it off and say 7 volts
Will every single 80 prs be like this one or do I need to check my pr's with a dd1 to set SLA settings
+Ernest Gary I would hope they are all the same. The only thing that might be different is the phone output.

Never used the standard mode. I can't say. But I think you can but you would need a new one because the music would be more separated
Can You try a cheap chinese head unit?
Can u dd1 Kenwood kmm-bt318u
Can you dyno radio piooner deh1400ub
Kenwood ddx9904s or ddx994s
Good job on this one fellas. So by law and by the bible the next one you have to do is the Pioneer 4200nex it's just how the world works
+john wagner hey John here is the link

Five Star Car Stereo man this is clutch! Unlike Tony Romo
Could you do that 2016 model pioneer avh 5800 please and thanks
David Christopher i think it clips at 37 on stock setting on radio ... you can go plus 2 and radio distorts at 34 i think they have a video similar to the 5800 and they said its the same to other similiar models
Alejandro-Chaires 14 thanks and yes sir I found the video where they did the 3800
David Christopher yes correct.! i have plus 2 and go up to 34 thats all
Alejandro-Chaires 14 I think I can go to 38 and plus 3 on the source I use
David Christopher cool cool just set the gain good on amp if not you will distort and smoke subs bro

Deck power is the power from the amp in the radio. Yes it will distort before the RCA output. Get an amp for your speakers
I want a SMD DD-1 so bad
+Neon Bass they are great to have
Hi guys! Please dyno the Alpine CDE-W265BT. Thank you!
Cool. Can you do one on the Pioneer DEH PRS80 next?
Des420 i thought they did it on a 80prs
Not sure if this is a joke🤔... but this video IS the deh prs80 lmao
Lol?
These are cool videos who's Idea?
+grin and bear it - thank you, I think the idea was an accident while answering a question.
Sony MEX-XB100BT
IMO,,Showing the wattage at 4 ohms would be better
*output power
Avh 2330 nex next
+pop032292 it is in the next round we do
Try Pioneer AVH-X4800BS
Gary Charley they have a video similar to that radio its the same settings ... check it out on there videos
