      because death penalty is taboo for some people. You are essentially murdering someone, thus (technically speaking) doing the same as they probably did but not getting any kind of punishment. This could take a mental toll on the executers. And showing a little bit of compassion, deserved or not, gives them a sense of humanity, a way to accept the fact that they are not like the monsters they execute. Kind of like a placebo effect for them to forget they are killing a living being I guess(?).

    Jason's "reaction" to seeing those crime scene photos for the first time answers the question of how his second psychiatric assessment went so differently. He clearly knows how to put on a show, so he probably did just that. He was honest with the first psychiatrist, and got committed for us, so he adjusted with the second to get out.
    They're absolutely fucking _idiots_ for not getting a second opinion though. A professional psychiatrist declaring a teenager as an immediate threat to his community is a BIG FUCKING DEAL, and is NOT A decision that should've ever been taken lightly. Eleanor has talked on Instagram about her weight loss and has assured us that she's taking healthy steps to lose weight and that she's okay! She also said she's not ready to talk about her weight loss yet and would appreciate people not commenting/talking about it. I understand a lot of the comments come from a place of concern but from what she has said, she's happy and thriving! She also stopped using fake tan and is wearing less makeup which is why she might look a bit different. Of course this isn't the parents fault but I can't help but feel odd about how inattentive they were. How come neither parent knew where their 13-year-old daughter was and couldn't even say whether she had been home up until midnight or if she had been hanging out with a random adult man alone in his car for awhile? Why was the dad so okay with his 14-year-old son getting into a car at midnight without telling anybody and without the dad knowing whose car it was? Why was neither parent concerned about when their children were getting home or where they were going??
    It's just weird to me. I'm nearly 20 and still living with my parents and if I'm going out they always ask me who it's with, where I'm going and when I'll be back, not because they don't trust me but because they want to make sure I'm safe. Often times unless I've specified I won't be back until early morning (like 4:00am) one of them will wait up and only go to bed when they know I'm home, again not because they don't trust me, but because they literally can't sleep unless they know I'm safe. Back when I was 13/14 they were obviously even more strict about knowing who, what, where, when and why.
    I don't want to bash the parents, they've lost their children and that's awful, but I just can't comprehend how you don't even know whether your daughter is home or not and you watch your son get into a random car you've never seen in the middle of the night and then think nothing about it and just go to bed. Like what?

      In their defense, it's not always easy to keep track of kids that age and sill allow them to grow up. I was 14 or 15 and had several friends who were a bit older (17 or so), and my parents were aware and had ruled about curfews and procedures if something happened. When I was 15, I had gone out with my 17-year- old boyfriend (president of our 4-H club) while they were at a relative's birthday party. At some point, his car was hit head-on by a drunk driver on the highway, about 2 miles from his house. When I want home by 2am, my sister called police and the hospital and discovers they had a Jane Doe who matched my description, and as soon as they figured out who my mom is I got the car I needed (she was a supervisor in Urgent Care at the time). I followed the rules, as did my sister and parents, and still things went wrong; Christina's father has surely punished himself many times for not being more diligent, though he was certainly a good father from my point of view.

      Ellis County is about 1000 square miles. In 1993, the county population was less than 100k people. It was ALL "Small Town Texas". Even today, that type of parenting isn't uncommon in small towns in Texas. The crime rate would've been incredibly low, giving a sense of security that wasn't entirely false.

      I feel like some parents just are like that. My parents didn't really care were I was going or what I was doing when I was that age. I guess they had just seen me leave and come back often enough to be quite sure that I knew what I was doing. And I'm from a big city, so this was probably somewhat dangerous. Not saying that this is smart, but there's also people that never leave their kids alone and still bad things happen to their children... I'm actually pretty sure my parents would have acted the same way. And they were good parents, they weren't neglecting us. All my siblings turned out great 😅 So I guess there's no right or wrong. Hearing him bringing a book on Charles Manson didn’t seem so bad at first, as a teen I was really was into dark and scary “goth shit” (as my mother called it), but then again I found Ted Bundy repulsive and cried when I lost my childhood cat for a day. What I’m getting at is, as long as you monitor your kids, keep it age appropriate and idk, not be neglectful, let your kiddos enjoy some of their weird/creepy interests. I got all the edgy, emo kid stuff out of my system and grew up to be a good person (if still into true crime and horror) who loves/dotes my present brat child of a cat. Jason Massey isn’t the whole of kids who liked creepy interests, he’s a garbage human and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was treated like every child killer in prison.

She said he came across as just a normal guy. Very polite etc. Really odd character indeed all round. I didn’t find out why he was on death row until I was in my teens and asked her. She still had some of his letters etc from years ago and I did read a couple. It was literally just like she was writing to a normal long distance friend & vice versa. He just seemed like a run of the mill average joe. Not even coming across in the slightest someone who’d be capable of such things, including the things that came before the murders. I live in Australia and I regularly am placed under “the mental health act” basically held in a psychiatrist unit against my will. I’m currently stable I spent a month in there so far this year due to my many illness’ but what I wanted to say is it didn’t surprise me the psychiatrists had complete opposite opinions. It’s actually unbelievably common. I’m always sectioned by an ambulance or police to be assessed and all it takes is 1 assessment by a psychiatrist to decide whether they hold you or not. One of my times there I was assessed at 7pm at night after being scheduled by police around 4pm that day. The psychiatrist decided to keep me under the act and organize a bed for me in one of the wards. But they weren’t able to organize one for me by the next shift rolled round and it was a new psychiatrist on shift. I requested another assessment stating I wanted to leave, so they gave me one and knowing my history and diagnosis’ and what had happened recently, she said I was free to go 🤣 now looking back, she shouldn’t have, I was manic I have Bipolar 1 with psychosis and was seriously unwell. But she let me go and sure enough the police had me back there within a few days and I was finally admitted. But yeah, she sat there knowing all of the above and what the police had told them etc and let me go after the psychiatrist on previous shift wanted me not only admitted but watched 24/7. I’ve gone through this many times over the years, so don’t be surprised. It happens ALL the time. There’s no consistency with psychiatrists 🤣

I think it's important we respect her wishes and privacy and avoid comments about her weight/how she looks, but she is okay :)

    • @Nat-ff9wr
      @Nat-ff9wr 2 года назад +3

      Yes, I was wondering too. If she was already in the car, he had the opportunity before Brian got in. But maybe that's not what happened and we'll never know since Jason didn't tell.

    • @moondivine2288
      @moondivine2288 2 года назад +24

      My guess is Brain followed Christina to not leave her alone with a grown man. In a sad way his presence did help her because without his death they wouldn’t have identified Christina’s body.

    • @allthatsparklez1466
      @allthatsparklez1466 2 года назад +2

      Maybe Christina was a bit scared and decided to bring him along with her at the last minute and as soon as she left he jumped in right behind her. Or more likely, she made plans with her brother (didn't want to be alone and asked him to tag along the previous day) and was already in the car than both drove to pick up Brian

    Regarding the vastly different psychiatric assessments: I've been a patient of multiple psychiatrists & therapists over the years, and have also been evaluated by a couple psychologists. This is largely due to changes in insurance coverage (for those who aren't American, basically, if your provider decides they no longer take your insurance, or you switch to a different insurance company because you receive your coverage through work, which most people do here, you will have to switch providers. it's a shitty system). I have PTSD, which I was diagnosed with in 2016, but even after receiving that diagnosis and making my psychiatrist(s) aware of it, I still wasn't even treated for it properly until 2018. I also found out recently that I was being treated for bipolar disorder, which I was never diagnosed with and had no idea was part of my treatment plan, between 2015 and 2017. I never had informed consent for those treatments, and it's very upsetting, because some of the medications I was put on actively worsened the symptoms of my PTSD & comorbid depression, and the doctor I was seeing at the time didn't seem to listen to the concerns I had. I guess now I know why.
    All of this is just to say-- back then, I'm sure Jason wouldn't have necessarily even had to try very hard to talk his way out of that facility. I live in Oklahoma, the state directly north of Texas. This region is known for serious issues regarding poverty, poor education, high crime rates, and a host of things that contribute to our mental health services being at least 20 years behind other American cities. I've been to two psych facilities in this state, and they were varying degrees of bad. If we've supposedly improved since 1993? I can't imagine he was getting great treatment. On top of that, even in 2015, the first time I was hospitalized, I don't think I spoke to a psychiatrist more than once, and I don't think I saw the same therapist each time I was brought in for a private session. It wouldn't be super uncommon, even today, for someone in a psych facility to see two completely different doctors with two completely different treatment styles and strategies. It's a terrible system.

      It's a bad system the Psychiatrist knew how dangerous he was ( the mom would have had to state the diaries was why she was putting him in hospital ,they were poor and free beds weren't common) and it should be in the job description to contact the police when a patient has exhibited serious violence against the nurses or other patients.They could have taken his samples and interviewed him asked about his whereabouts on certain cases .
      Another strange thing if the family kept moving why did he go to the same school?SMH

    As someone who has lied to psychologists during assessments as psych wards (granted I was there for completely separate reasons than Jason), the reason Jasom got out and the reason that psychologist disagreed with the first one is because Jason realized in order to get out and stay out of a hospital he had to lie. In order for these assessments to be accurate, the patient has to be truthful. It's not hard to lie your way out of it if you're a good liar.

    I can't believe Jason never got in any kind of trouble for animal abuse! I mean pet owners knowing who purposely killing their pets and nothing mentioned about anyone calling police for animal abuse. Maybe then phyciatrists would of been more serious in getting him help before him actually killing people. I mean him killing innocent kids maybe could have been prevented if a whole slew of pet owners pressed charges on him for animal abuse because majority of serial killers start out killing animals first.

A police report was made and the officer spoke to the angry customer and his excuse was "I was just blowing off steam" and the officer couldn't do anything about it.
