Alain Delon (1935-18 August 2024) has died, aged 88. RIP. (theaestheticof...)
The Image: I think it is the desolate, colour-drained, god-awful French village (in the middle of nowhere!...) that Alain Delon (Corey) drives through to meet up with the fence he previously recruited (Paul Crauchet) to receive the stolen jewels from the heist. (I have driven through villages like that in rural France - they are all over the place!) (Images here:aestheticofthe...)
As well as, a) The surprisingly green gate that Delon must navigate - as well as the ungainly dalmatian guard dog (aestheticofthe...) - and then, b) the wonderfully weird staircase antics where the two men make lots of meaningful 'man' faces -(aestheticofthe...) and c) when Melville finishes with that unexpected wipe that sort of double exposes their faces for a split second in the same frame. (aestheticofthe...) And no dialogue...
It's all dope!
