There isn’t a single Lionel video that doesn’t inspire me. #nolimits
I feel like your mood is a lot better after the TriBattle. Seem to be much happier with yourself and your progress and competitive level. Win or lose.
Dude's chatting like no biggie at 360+ watts
At 150 lbs 😭
and only a 130 HR
After 4 hours
With a canadian accent
It was comforting to hear that Lionel has the same swimming difficulties that I have. Hand entry depth, rotation on non breathing side, etc. I’m no where near his level but it was good hearing that.
ya unless you grew up swimming a lot of people have difficulties learning to swim really well when they are older
You are a monster man. After all that high and a lot of lows, still smiling, beliveing and always getting better. You inspire bro!!
Lionel has a great sense of humour, sadly missed by quite a few of the viewers; thinking specifically of the Cam Wurf gag and the absolute classic Windsor road sign story from a few years ago! 😉😉
Watched this over breakfast dreading a 2hr treadmill session. Now I'm off to fkn work! #nolimits
Go outside
Bro was in the zone at the end talking about listening to external voices - GET EM LIONEL!!!! 🔥
The Norwegians are all several years younger and doing insane volume and tons and tons of testing to make sure they are appropriately responding to the load.
This is great, Talbot your filming has gotten so much better in the last year and a half. Great job!
I think he's music taste got even better.
Hell yes!! Let’s get back to what made you a killer athlete. Boom, you just gave me that killer instinct back in my training to finish out the season.
Love the content, been waiting impatiently for this!
BOM 💣💣💣 the old Lionel is back. The hunter
amen to the last bit brother. do u man, do u
When you
watch blumenfeld, you See its not about hard Training its about smart Training ,consistency and a professionell Team around you!
Okay that was the funniest opening ever. 😁😂😁
So glad to see this coming from you. Looking forward to race week!
Okay
Cant wait to share the start line with you at Copenhagen! Such an honor.
Unless you're a pro you aint sharing the start line 😜
Yazz!! Now that’s more like it!! Beast mode 💪 🚀
I’m curious that if Lionel were to do wind-tunnel testing and training like Jan does, would he become noticeably faster on the bike? During the Tri Battle, Jan was putting out less power but was more aero so Lionel didn’t gain any time on him.
The bottle! 😅
Also dont forget the importance of being able to ride fast. Jan picked up big time in corners and riding smooth. Lionel is rubbish at riding a bike outdoors fast
He proved multiple times over and over again on his channel the problem might not just be wind-tunnel testing or any other thing (flexibility, swimming, nutrition, etc.), but his overall personality - apart from a camera man, he seems not to have any professional team behind him, is again without coach, no training partners. I think he is a great guy and has inspired more people than anyone due to his openness but does he want to be the best in Ironman or be in the business of motivating people?
@@coztebebude696 he is still with david tillbury davies as a coach isnt he?
@@jamesd5241 Somebody mentioned here that Lionel is no longer featured among his athletes on his web.
1 min in and the vibes are already hitting...let's goooo!
GO ON LIONEL ! U got this buddy
dude is shredded SHEESH
I mean ... I don't really want you to miss out on Kona ... BUT ... IM California (Sacramento) will be my first IM ever. It would be awesome to cheer you on while I suffer and take 2x as long to finish.
It's hard not to like Lionel. He is an open, likeable, great work ethic, warrior. And his content is loved by anyone that's in the triathlon community. But at the same time it's like watching a train wreck. How many times did he change things in the last 4 years, just to realize it's not working for him. The best athletes all have coaches that typically train them for years. I doubt Frodeno would ever become what he is without Lorang as coach. To me, this video sounds like so many before, where he fully commits himself without the backing of a world class coach. And Cam is not a world class coach.
Maybe I'm wrong but I think Cam Wurf being his coach is meant to be tongue-in-cheek
@@blackdynamite1392 think so too. I tried not to sound too serious.
@@fritsgerms3565 fair enough. I did think the same as you though in regards to changing his training up too often.
@@blackdynamite1392 I don’t think he is consistent enough with his methodology (Jan actually said something similar at the tribattle about Lionel). Nearly every race “teach” him something, but then two or three races it seems he has forgotten about it or something else is more important. A few months ago he said the era of Uber bikers are over and investing the energy will make you loose but now he wants to focus on it again. Then something seems wrong with his bike position (2018), abandons a position he held for years, then to realize it wasn’t so bad after all. Mark Allen once said that Lionel must solve his fluid intake rate, because nobody can absorb so much liquid as he claim he looses. It just feels with a proper coach and a long term methodology of getting where it’s possible for him, that he would do much better (Ironman). We all root for him, but I fear in a few months there’ll be another video with a new direction.
Cannot agree more - and I consider this not a hate but constructive criticism.
I'm hoping that you getting beaten by Frodo hasn't caused seconditis again which you spoke about just after your 2nd place at Kona and subsequent walk the following year. Where you basically threw everything/everyone out and went backwards for a year or so. Obviously you have to do you, but keep everything in perspective, especially as you are currently on an Upwards trajectory right now, in full distance races!!
His talk in this video reminded me of his past swings in perspective. I thought that spending some time with Jan would bring some stability, but it seems that he’s back at doing it his way with no real team behind him. As someone mentioned in the comments, the greats have great teams behind them which Lionel seems to be missing greatly.
@@coztebebude696 I'm assuming that "Cam Wurf is my coach" is meant to be joke. At least I hope so. He's had consistent success with (I've forgotten his name, English dude) so I hope they are still working together, so they continue to go from strength to strength.
I also think that was meant as joke but I am not sure Lionel still works with his coach since he is no longer featured among his athletes on his web.
@@coztebebude696 oh, that is worrying then.
I'm also concerned about this... However I'm hopeful that this time there is a slight difference, which we actually saw in this video! He came in from his brick run feeling fantastic, having completed the session and recognising he needed to save that extra energy for race day. Previously, he would have taken that energy and gone for another 10km. I think (hope) that's the difference. Training extremely hard but not doing that final interval he previously would have done, that's the one that would normally over-train him or leave him injured! I hope he has a great race in Copenhagen!
Almost 4 hours or 3 hours and 50 minutes on the bike trainer so high level incredible good effort
History moves in a spiral. Now Lionel is "undertrained" and "soft", later on after another possible stress fracture he will change his mind to cut back on hard training and make it smart and easy and so on and so forth)) Get luck to Lionel anyway! BTW, Norwegian guys whom he mentioned are mostly doing soft aerobic workouts (though quite long, especially on the bike) adding not that much of threshold and VO2max (typical Norwegian xc-skiing approach for polarised training)
I feel like all people who support Lionel in doing it his way are actually doing him a disservice since he needs someone to help him, not to do it his way.
Lionel is the Mc Gregor of Triathlon !!!
Looking forward to seeing the living legend in action in Kona.
Biggest fan here
Lionels mindset is so damn motivating. Man I want to go for a long run!
Boy he stole my workout! Fan going, check. Laptop open all day, check. Talking aplenty, check. Ok, I don't have it with the biking and running bit, but otherwise this is my day exactly!
Go get it!
Inspiring af… whats the BGM in the beginning pls ??
Just an animal! Lets go!!
Gauntlet thrown! I honestly think the biggest mistakes you made were so close to tasting the Kona win and instead of just a couple tweaks, you turned every single training knob you could get your hands on. I feel like you haven't stopped doing that for 4 years. In 2021 it definitely seems like you've gotten a bit closer with the two things you should have initially focused on - swimming and race nutrition - but I'm excited to see a back to basics Lionel with those small deltas in-hand!
Lionel must have some trainers in rotation.... 💪💪👌
This is passion…. Greetings from Japan/ Germany…. 🙏🏻⛩🥷⚔️🇯🇵
Coach is happy with amount of races that are coming :p
Go, Go, Go Lionel, We will be cheering for you in Copenhagen! No limits!
Is Talbot shooting from the pool?
This flip flopping between training to hard, not training enough, and nutritional problems is tiring. Many videos ago it was "my best performances have been during training, I need to not push it in practice and save it for the races". And now it's "I haven't been pushing it in training, I need to push harder in training" after a series of poor ironman performances where nutrition was to blame. Apparently even though other pros were saying things like "don't do an ironman every day", the actual level of training was tweaked based on youtube comments. I'm just an idiot on the internet but it still seems like there is no coherent strategy. There's never any pay off resulting from these epiphanies. If you find yourself adjusting your training based on youtube comments, then your strategy was flawed to begin with since you never had confidence in it.
%100 agree
Blame YT and Talbot Cox and our comments, why don't you?!
I know you don’t read the comments but man I’m glad to see this video. These og training videos in the cave are the best. And you’re back to that gritty lionel. Love it
So excited for all these races coming up! But you gotta race Jan (and Sam) in the Collins Cup!!! Having all 3 #1s going head-to-head-to-head would be great for the sport!
The catch is between winning the CC and giving the best show. If I were a CC coach, my strategy wouldn't be to put my #1 up again the other #1s, but that would then decrease the athlete participation in the future. Catch 22 ish.
Lionel, as someone who grew up swimming and swam d1. You really have a lot of room for improvement in your technique. You don’t have to be gifted with the extreme mobility of an Olympic level swimmer such as floppy ankles (which imo hinders your run) to be where you want to be. There’s a lot of room for improvement which you should look forward to. I believe you can be unstoppable!
Keyboard warriors strike again...sigh
@@DublinDapper it’s exhausting
Who's the music from starting at 0:51? Awesome intro.
Pep talk xavy rusan
Haha best first minute ever.
Was that 2 different run workouts? - different singlet, different shoes?
"snivelling pack-rat" that's fucking hillarious!
Keep it up, "You Be You". Good luck with everything
Man,Fuck those negative comments from people!!!!
You are a beast!By far my favorite pro triathlete ever(right up there with Crowe, macca,Jan).Keep crushing it because you have inspired me to step up my training and I am a 49 year old average guy.
First, pls when LIonel says "FUCK" don't beep him....this is not a fucking ABC but a youtube. Who doesn't want to watch because of it let them switch to everyday prayer!
How much strength training do you add to your workout schedule?
7 days/week
- Squats 500lbs 20 reps, 5 sets
- Leg press 1,000lbs 50 reps, 5 sets
- Calf raises 150lb dumbbells 100 reps, 5 sets
- Sit-ups 500, 5 sets
- Push ups 1000, 5 sets
- Plank 60 minutes, 5 sets
- Jumping jacks 10,000, 5 sets
- He doesn’t read comments
@@iron_dad7802 Man u are so funny :/
that hiphop track in the first montage is ripping talbot! great job
I wonder what will happen if you gonna change your „wobbly“ run into a full range of motion. Less energy at running = more watts on the bike :D
Did you change shoes mid run?
I don’t know how anyone swims on n the form goggles. You can’t see anything in them. It’s not just the display or data in the way it’s the actual lenses which are both shaped like coke bottles. Absolutely terrible. Zero vision
Love this guy but he's a bit of a broken record now. Same mistakes over and over. Same lessons learned over and over. He always talks about learning new things, then promptly forgets what he was doing last year. This is exactly why he needs a coach and team. It's their job to do nothing but track your progress and develop what works best for you so you don't have to worry about this stuff and can just train, recover and race. Sadly I think Lionel is his own worst enemy at this point. He can't sideline the ego and essentially start over training wise for better long term gains. *shrug*
Bipolar
How many different pairs of running trainers did you wear that day 😂
Love the determination but please no crazy hard sessions like you did leading into kona 2018. Like seb says there’s a very fine line between being fit and fucked!
I enjoyed meeting Talbot in Boulder70 at swim exit. I drive moto for jimmy Riccitello. See you guys in Kona. I will be on bicycle in kona though not Harley this time as I’m going to compete in it.
Good luck Kevin! 💪👍
80-90 degrees is hot af for a competitive swimming pool. My pools are always 70 degrees or lower
Competition pools are to be 77°-82°F. I can't stand swimming in anything warmer than 80°, that's for the older ladies and their aquafit classes 😂
Lol yeah was not expecting him to say 80
The whirlpool scene reminds me of a Western hero in the saloon, who makes a final announcement to all in the world: I will show you all how strong I am. What I see is a lot of anger. Anger to push even harder. The challenger has to motivate himself. For sure it's a further very interesting point of development in this great career. It will be very interesting to see, how it goes on.
I think you nailed it Fabian
Great initial beat... it sets the right the mood, smash those races Lionel
Finally, new video! :)
Classic Cam!! Love it..
Release the lion 🇨🇦✌️🇨🇦
I don’t think anyone gets to the half during an Ironman and thinks “let’s race” 😂 I usually think just hold on.
Lionel is undergoing a transformation. More self-accepting and positively driven and less masochism. He’s becoming the Tao- ‘best doing is non-doing’.
Growth mindset.
I thought so too but this last video seems to contradict it as he seems to be undergoing yet another change in his training.
Is David Tilbury Davis still Lionel's coach?
That's I am wondering...
I was asking myself this question as well........
It doesn’t seem like. Just checked David’s website and Lionel is no longer featured in the “athletes” section.
No, DTD confirmed the breakup
@@marcoseidel7561 Where?
I hope you can shrug off the criticism of the social media warriors. Keep showing us what’s impossible please. 🦾🦾
Sure is beautiful around Tucson!
F@ck FEAR (False evidence appear real). Go LS 💪
Jesus, I am competitive but this guy is the fucking man.
"Oooh good it's 13 Miles left 🏃♂️ But want the feeling to race instead" ⭐ Great comment!!
I like finding your channel. Find it by Effortless 🏊♂️ Inspiring your focus.. 👍
Hey Lionel, massive longtime fan and don't want to be too much of another armchair expert but I haven't seen you acknowledge the aerodynamic gains that Jan had in the Tri Battle that you could incorporate into your own IMs. It seems your focus is on further increasing bike power now rather than efficiency. Frodeno biked 305w to your 312w and went 5 minutes faster. Free speed
Hey, how did you fix yourself when you were an addict? How did you get to the worst point? Asking because I would like to NOT be an addict anymore. I’ve already done an Ironman. I thought that would fix me. It didn’t. I know that should embarrass me, and it does...apparently, not enough to fix myself.
😂 who didn't see lionel's next crazy scheme coming after Jan put him in his place. you going to put the camelbak back on as well? we know why lionel wouldn't ever show up to an ironman like Frankfurt yesterday
I saw this video after the Collins Cup Opening Ceremony and you are going to run against Sebastian, it's like a prediction... Looking forward to watching that race... Good luck Lionel! 💯
Fu** it. Train hard!!
Are those saucony endorphin speeds? If yes, how do you like them?
❤️ them. Responsive, fast, and pretty lightweight. Not as good as my Skechers but after I win Copenhagen I’ll sign em and give them to you 🇨🇦
Switched shoes during the run? Sauconys to start?
Ducking because you were off an injury and had some bad results trying to change up your nutrition. Just work out what the red zone is for the run and DO NOT go into it. Sometimes that means accepting a time below target, but you can't try and beat the red zone on an ironman marathon. 🙌
Don't worry about other things you can't control (other people too)..make the most of what you have..I think you are doing great..no matter the results, as long as the process is right, it's all fine..keep it up and thank you!
Anyone know who else is racing Copenhagen? I think the Norwegians are either skipping or doing Frankfurt. Is there any real competition for the Kona spot?
Yes almost 60 pros are entered. some big names
If you Google "Ironman Pro Start List" you should find a link to the webpage with pro start lists.
@@pamgoodley1020 I did but its fairly unreliable. For example, McNamee and Heemeryck are on it but are racing Frankfurt instead. Blu still listed but skipping all IM races until Kona. Thought someone might know the confirmed big hitters. Of the remainder, there doesn't seem any real competition for LS. Should easily grab a spot.
Did I hear that right, Cam is coaching Lionel?
As a fan, I love the LS content dropping every 7-14 days, and I can’t wait for the next one to drop. I would be disappointed if a new vid wasn’t dropped for 30 days or more….but what if that is what it takes for LS to gain that last bit of focus that puts him at the top in Kona? The racing schedule is too busy this year….but if LS decided next year that he goes totally social dark and an update only drops through a member of his team….then I am all for it.
I was supposed to be racing Copenhagen but no longer can due to covid travel restrictions, extra gutted I cant go now, would have loved to cheer you on! As always thanks for your openness, go get it 🦾
So turn the comments off.🤷♂️😳🤯
we all know Lionel's down turn is all because of Tablot, j/k - give it all you got the rest of the year. GO FOR BROKE!
seems like he actually reads the comments...
Stay hard Lionel!
Ironman Copenhagen is my local race =) I have done it 2x. I will make sure to yell motivating insults after you..
And when u race to the limits and that brings you to the best of your ability and you come up second like in Kona 2017 , don't make excuses or complain , come back to 14:01 and watch and listen to yourself , not us in RUclips land . Because that is you , not us .
Kinda hope you miss Kona so I can "race" you in Sacramento! Jk, crush em in Copenhagen, Lionel!
Casually chatting at 350W.
You're videos are getting better, just like you are. With you.
You got it Lionel: it's the social media exposure that has been messing up with your mind. Get off, focus on your amazing inner strength, and you will be back, stronger than before. Go LIONEL !!
Dude, your goggle is so cool. Can it be recordings, like a video or something?
