How to test if dry instant yeast is active? | Test before baking bread |

- It's always best to know if the yeast is active or not, before starting to mix the dough. This method can be followed for any dry yeast.
One more short note: Instant yeast can be added directly to flour and no need to mix it with water first and activate. Instant yeast will activate fine when mixed in with the flour as soon as long as the water temperature is right and don't forget to add sugar.
For the reference, for those who like to measure the water temperature, it’s best if it is between 110°F - 135°F.

You have a beautiful voice. The background music is not too loud. You gave a lot of information in a short time. Great visuals without distraction. Great job. Exactly what I was looking for. Bless you!
Thank you so much for watching the video and your kind words!
🙏🙌
Happy to know that it was informative☺️
Excellent explanation. I have 3 pack of instant yeast, with outdates of Nov 16, 2022 on my packets, and right now it's Mar 31, 2022. Wanted to do a little test, and this is exactly what I needed!! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your kind comments!
So happy to hear this video helped you!
@@AmruthamAkhilaIntlo My yeast bloomed almost over the cup. So seems it's good.
I am a UK Prepper, currently sorting out my stock, which includes some small tins of dried yeast in a ring-pull can. They are 6.5 years old but, unlike my more recently bought 7g packs, I have not kept them frozen. I have spoiled several loaves of bread over several years, meaning 4 hours wasted baking time/ingredients, probably due to using faulty yeast. I will now test some from both packs, so this tip will be very useful in the future to avoid waste, electricity and frustration. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching and taking time to comment! Happy to know it helped! 🙏
@@AmruthamAkhilaIntlo 🙂

Thank you ! I made my very first Parker House rolls. OK , but not too fluffy. The water was cool so next time I’ll try heating the water. Hope to get this right before Thanksgiving! Lol

Thanks for the video, very helpful! I have tested my yeast and it is still active. Can I use the bubbly liquid in baking or do I throw it out?
Thank you so much for watching! That liquid can be used
Thank you A,
Very informative

Thank you for your kind words! 🙏
Thabkyou for this it was very informative. Also, do you prefer to add the instant yeast in the wet ingredients or dry before mixing?
I’d add the yeast to the dry ingredients before adding wet ingredients. It gets mixed better this way. Thank you for watching the video and very happy to hear that it was informative! ♥️
This is so good! All in details👍🏻
Thank you so much! Very happy to know it was informative! 🙏
Great video… Thank you! How long will the yeast remain active when stored, as you suggest, in the freezer? Also… I just want to make sure… You do mean the freezer and not the refrigerator, correct?
Thank you!
Yes, I do store in the freezer. A large pack of yeast lasts me several months, when properly handled and stored.
Thank you the yeast last only several months? I stored in the refrigerator may be why the yeast died.
May be try the freezer next time.
Very informative video.. thanks
Eeesha, Thank you very much! I am so happy it was helpful to you! 🙏💖
Tnx I learner alot from this 😁
So good to know that! Thank you!
Very helpful video!
Thank you for your kind words! 😊
I thought you said you don't mix the "instance" yeast in water but only the "active" one?
Thank you for watching!
This method of yeast testing can be followed for dry types of yeast (instant and active).
Hope that answers your question!
Thank you very helpful.
Thank you! 🙏
Thank you.
@@akhilareddy3548 I tested my yeast today before using my bread machine. It is perfectly fine 🌝 My last loaf fell after rising beautifully & I really don’t know why so hence testing the yeast today. I like the way you keep the testing so simple.
@@Jennifer-oz8ec Happy to know it worked. Thank you for watching and taking time to leave your feedback! ❤️🙏
very very much helpfull.. thank you.
You are very welcome!
Do you need to thaw out the yeast before using it?
No need to thaw the yeast. Can be used right out of the freezer.
Thank you for watching!
Good info, , and your voice❤
Thank you very much Summa!♥️
Will this work with natural cane sugar?
It should work. Thank you for watching!
Why do we need to put sugar in testing if the yeast is still active?
Thank you for watching! ☺️🙏
Yeast needs sugar to produce the gas which makes the dough rise. It eats the sugar and releases gas into the dough. Reason for all those air pockets in breads. Without enough sugar it won’t rise properly. During testing, after adding sugar, if it rises, that means the yeast is active. If it does not rise, that means the yeast is not active. Hope that helps!
Nice and informative
Thank you so much 😊🙏
is it okay to store yeast in freezer?
Jessica...Thank you for watching my video! Yes it is perfectly fine and that’s the best recommendation. I always store mine in the freezer.
Excellent... 👍
Thank you!
Are we suppose to keep the yeast in the freezer where we keep ice or on the place where we keep foods and vegetables?
I store mine in the freezer.
Thank you for watching the video! ☺️🙏
@@AmruthamAkhilaIntlo won't it turn into ice crystals?
@@meghnashrestha4380 no
@@meghnashrestha4380 as long as it’s stored in a dry air tight container, it should be good.
@@AmruthamAkhilaIntlo thank you so much
How many minutes does it take to fully grow? And mine is foamy but didn’t rise
Takes just about 5-10mins. 😊
Please tell the temperature to store it?
Typical freezer temperature would do, nothing specific, my freezer is set to 0°F. Thank you so much for watching! I hope it helped! ♥️🙏
Thank You mam.
You are welcome! ☺️
I'm not seeing bubble but it has risen what does that mean? My yeast is active?
That’s a great sign. Yes it is active! 😊
Thank you for watching the video!
can I test "Instant dry yeast" as per your video method & get the result? or any different method to test "Inst. dry yeast"
Yes, same method can be followed to test it. Thank you for watching the video! 😊
were can I keep the yeast. in the fridge or freezer? thanks
I store mine in the freezer, as I buy in bulk. Freezer works best for storing it for a long time. Thank you for watching!
@@AmruthamAkhilaIntlo you have a nice explanation. how long I can store my yeast in the freezer?will the yeast like melt in the freezer or will it like clump up?
@@frankfurttagumpay it won’t melt or clump up in the freezer. Make sure to use dry utensils 🥄.

my yeast foamed up very little and then it settled down normaly but i can still hear it bubbling from inside is it good or bad ?
@@subhadeepdas4435 if you are able to hear it bubbling, then it’s a good sign.
@@AmruthamAkhilaIntlo I actually put some flour in the text sample. It actually rised like crazy but gluten development was very weak even after 6 hours of poofing so I gave it a one last knead and put it into fridge it stopped rising completly inside fridge :( do you know why ?
