It feels like Max is protecting you from the monster truck and telling you to hide from it. He obviously loves you very much and very clearly has a lot to say to you. My lovebird has a thing for Max, too, ha!
The really cool thing about this video is that this cockatoo is actively trying to have a conversation. These birds have the average intelligence of a 4 year old and given enough conversational training (ex: you knowing when he says “you say sorry” he’s trying to say sorry) they can carry on conversations and make it a lot easier to tell them what you want them to do and vice versa.

That is not gibberish. Max is trying to imitate his owners voice which is likely low pitched like mine. With a parrots vocal cords, which are designed for higher frequencies, it is difficult to understand what he is saying, but if you listen closely, you can make out what they are saying. When Max says Hi in his normal voice, it is much easier to hear the Hi.
Donald Chase Babies speak in gibberish too. When in the process of imitating human words, speech may simply sound garbled and gibberish-like, such as in this case. Nonetheless, it's an endearing and amusing development for both birds and humans. ;)

It sounds like gibberish to me, but to the bird (or, to use the example of a young infant learning to speak), it is a specific imitation of a word. In any case, it is gibberish, at least, to the human audience. The bird, however, expects its human to understand.
What an amazing job you are doing with Max. He has all sorts of stimulation, 1 on 1 time with you, he's in great feather and just seems so content. That is a hard job with a cockatoo. I think they are the hardest to keep happy in captivity. Great job!

Despite what most people believe, birds, especially parrots and crows and ravens have now been proven to be smarter than chimps and even if we don't understand what they are saying to us, they are not speaking in gibberish. Other birds can understand each other just fine. Parrots just include us in the conversation by learning to speak our language. I've got over 40 years experience raising parrots. My parrot owning friends and I have seen first hand the level of intelligence and skill that parrots have. One of our parrots actually learned what a telephone is and learned to talk on it. He was too small to pick up the receiver, but I have seen larger parrots actually pick up the receiver and talk on the phone. Check out the RUclips videos on Alex the African Grey to see what a parrot can learn to do. Many parrots have an intelligence equal to a five or six year old child.

Max used to live with another person, if I remember correctly, and it was an elderly pair. When he says "hi," he probably imitates the old lady that he used to live with, and his low grumbles are jist because when he grew up he probably heard noises of a working printer and just sorta picked them up.
I just happened to come across your videos of Max. I love it. I have a sun conure parrot that I raised from 30 days old. She is only 9 months old now, but I can not imagine my life without her. I have 3 cats and 2 wolves she plays with. However Mr. Max is amazing. Thank you for sharing these awesome videos.
