These were the corruption techniques from the 80s and 90s
"The ice is working!"
NES: "Let me not work"
Always fascinating to see technology still "work" under weird conditions while producing bizarre results.
@schizoposter1499 Nah bro keep cooking. You're on to something.

I truthfully just find it fascinating how Vinny will talk about how a single bite of chocolate is just too much for his elderly body in all the candy tasting videos, and yet he has a few pounds of children's liquid sugar sleeves in his freezer
The ice pops are for the NES and Gnorts. He gives them a treat at 4 PM.
I 100% get it. The single bites of chocolate from all the different candy add up. Also, chocolate is pretty heavy. Ice pops are light.
there's other stuff in chocolate that can disagree with you, I've known ppl who get terrible headaches from eating chocolate but they'll have some sugary stuff.
Those popsicles in the tubes are full of sugar...but they are otherwise frozen water with flavorings. If you actually do the calorie calculations on a lot of them, the listed calories are actually way more than you'll absorb from the popsicle because of the energy your body spends on warming the ice to digestible warm water. (Otter Pops, for example, are 25 KCal each, and their volume of ice will have you burning about 9-10 calories, assuming they are fully frozen...that's up to 40% of the calories lost during digestion).
You don't have to bite ice pops
Now I'm imagining Vinny, 38 years old, licking an ice pop while sitting in front of his setup passive aggressively glaring at Chat.
he's older than that
Vinny is 57
The way "Vinny, 38 years old" is written reminds me of preschool drawings with the names and ages of the kids who drew them scrawled on the top
no, vinny is 63
Vinny is 204 years old
I’m pretty sure doing things like this are how you get sucked into the Videogame World.

In related news, an exploit used in Dragon Quest speedruns involves putting your FamiCom on a freaking electric pan to overheat the cartridge just enough to jump to the end of the game
Can you blame them? The first RPGs were massive slogs.
They then decided that was bad for the console and used cartridge swapping instead
@@eessndjd I mean, using a toaster is bound to overheat the solder points sooner or later. It makes sense to eventually move to a less harmful trick down the line

well the nes wasnt designed for you to do this to it, so when you do this to it, stuff that wasnt meant to happen.. happens
local streamer OBLIVIOUS to the invention of the electrical fan
Probably not fast enough...
@@RaceBandit airflow is one of the best ways to cool electrical components, short of a liquid cooling loop that can't be improvised.
A desk fan blowing into the cartridge slot would have done a lot more than a bag of ice sitting on top of the plastic shell which is still airgapped to most of the NES components inside.
You write like a Jermamite
I can’t believe his “Injecting Lime Dye Into the 3DS” bit years back was actually onto something big.
Do different flavors yield different results????
Can you use a Frozen Lasagna instead?
Only if playing a Garfield game.
You need to use frozen spaghetti with Mario games, thats clearly why Vinny had issues....
I think some of the chips inside the cartridges had their pins mangled, but low temperatures affect the way electrical circuits work (lower temperatures = less electrical resistance). Hence why superconductors typically operate in lower temperatures.
I guess this is why they say not to subject the cartridges to extreme temperatures.

I thought that was a huge slice of salmon but popsicles are just as... something..
Having just played Hylics 1 for the first time in four years, I can't help but imagine Wayne doing something like this as his friends look on in confusion. It's a shame that there aren't any cold/ice-based gestures, however.
there's a frozen burrito at least
@@ponimacaroniWayne: (shoves a frozen burrito into an ancient game console that Dedusmuln unearthed)

But like, the opposite I guess?
The system does not know how to handle "being cold". Thus it breaks/corrupts due to this unfamiliar feeling.
Now hang on Chat, let's give Vinny time to cook
I didn't even know the NES was that fragile...
Nice of Vinny to apply ice to his console because it had a headache.
every NES owner watching this: STAHP, HELP, HE'S KILLING IT! D:
If joel did this, that nes will be in the twister zone.
T O R N A D O
Never knew you could even do this.
He just needs to hammer it some more
The fact that Video Game Consoles continue to work in extreme temperatures only proves my point that one day when Mankind is long gone, Videogames will be one of the few things remaining, albeit broken as fuck.
How and why is the Ice doing this?
1:47 what makes this scary is the fact that the shyguy's eyes turn into Xs when this happens
shyguy is kill
Man the NES is so broken
Ikr they should patch it already, the thing's been out for almost 4 decades now, smh my head
never thought ice was so destructive tbh, might as well stick to drinking warm water
I thought that was a filet of salmon when I saw this live.
I would kill for a sack of those ice pops rn 😩
all the ice is in bags, right? will this permanently damage the system? asking for uhhh... a friend
The music is also bass boosted for some reason

How the heck does ice even do thar
alright
it's funny cos I think the ice is supposed to help it run better?? bc sometimes they overheat and just stop working instead of continuing to run corrupted
This looks like some cursed rom hack.
What am I even looking at here? Why isn't the cartridge correctly inserted and why would cold affect a ROM cart?
what killed the dinosaurs?
This is baffling can someone explain why fucking ice pops can cause an nes to get corrupted
I’d love to see him dial this technique in. Maybe a collab with NileBlue?
This is so cool Vinny!
Why use those pliers at all?
on the stream he says he was recommended to use them because the brand new cartridge connector holds on very tightly
@@notNajimi My heart stopped each time us used them, that and the cover coming apart.
The reproduction 72 pin connectors that are the only ones available to repair an old NES are, for some reason, SUPER tight. Those shits refuse to give up your cartridge once it's been in. Don't worry for the console or carts, they are old dumpster finds that have been thoroughly tortured and modified for this specific stream, vinny isn't hammering museum pieces!
1:49 GRAND DAD
I’m curious on the scientific explanation as to why this is occurring; as I thought electrons flowing through a wire works better under cooler conditions (explains why Server rooms are so cold!). But in this case, it’s causing the game to freak out; why is that?
Rumor has it that it took Nintendo engineers roughly 1.4 months develop this "feature"
I’m so confused. I didn’t know you could corrupt an NES with ice.
*hammers console* *All dying graphics completely black out* Nahhh it's fiiiine, hammer away
Holy shit, he unlocked the snowy level by applying ice
Luigi! Stop overdosing on popsicles! You're gonna ruin your figure, Luigi!
luigi becomes negative luigi and breaks reality due to ice
This probably isn't why it worked for a bit but cold things do actually conduct electricity better so if there was a bad connection, cooling the system would actually make a difference in performance
Why is there two audio tracks for this video??
Edit: Never mind I now realized its one with game audio and without.
How does this even work? Does the cold mess up resistors? Does it physically warp some components? Does the miniscule amount of condensation cause this corruption?
I feel like this is the goofyest way of corruption, but I love it. it's like doing your taxes on an ice pop
How does this even work anyway? And does it permanently damage something?
A computer that gets worse with more cooling. Amazing.

Warms my heart that’s he’s still corrupting games after all this time.
I wonder if it was the cold or the condensation from the cold that broke it worse lol
Average Canadian Super Mario Brothers experience
so your telling me that all it takes is freeze pops to mess up an NES
Ice pops, does this thing work?
Not on normal hardware, the nes was given to vin by a viewer who modified the cartridges to cause corruptions
The games would get too unstable as the cartridges got hot so he started putting the ice pops on to cool it down
@@cookiesnmilkfilms9056 oh that’s interesting, I was just saying that cause it reminded me of the Hugh neutron clip
ahh so this is what happens when I freeze values in RTC
Science tells me Ice Climbers would've been a much better game to test this
Did the ice actually do this? Seemed kinda fast
I am pretty sure that forcibly cooling down a hot chipboard is a somewhat quick way to cause permanent damage.
So extra nice for corruptions
Much less damaging than overheating though.
In games that use corruption for speed runs on purpose, ice has become more popular than hotplates over time.
vinny should try dry ice
The music got some bass to it. I can dance to it
2:17 the ice pops were so cold it made world 1 1 snow
