Ellie is about to turn 18 but feels overwhelmed by the thought. To try and combat it, she runs away with her childhood best friend (who happens to be a teddy) but in that she meets a new (real-life) friend who shows her that in perspective, things aren’t really that bad.
A Sad Excuse For A Teenage Girl is a film I wrote over the summer while anxiously approaching my own 18th birthday. Turning 18 has always been something that felt so so so far away but time doesn’t stop and I eventually turned 18 and it wasn’t that big of a deal.. This film holds a very special place in my heart because I feel that Ellie is a version of myself in a way (but obviously I wouldn’t be so mean to poor Josh) and maybe some of you watching feel the same, I’m not sure. I really hope you enjoyed this film, its my longest one yet and holy moly did it feel it!
Anyways, its here and I thoroughly enjoyed this process, although at times I did regret deeply filming at 00:30 at night, but I wouldn’t change anything about it. The cast, my crew and everyone who helped me, they’re all amazing and I’m so grateful for them. Thanks for reading ❤️

That screaming scene was amazing, especially that line “I hate school. I hate how I keep trying with everyone and they never want to try back with me, I hate how it never seems to work. Trying never works”. That cut deep, gonna remember that for a while
This was so fun!!!! And I feel super called out, which is a great sign. I love coming-of-age movies where the characters' lives aren't super spectacular or dramatic - this is a wonderful encapsulation. The timestamp chapters, the dynamic between Ellie and Hugo, the music, the screaming session!!! Also omg I feel so bad for the bear lol. Amazing job everyone

Ah dude. I feel like a whole lot of 18 year olds really needed to hear what is in this film. But on a simpler note, I just really enjoyed it. Thank you for making this Aoife.
