I'm a life long admirer of Pt. Nikhil Banerjee. I own the original LP and yes, it is Pt. Kanai Dutta on Tabla. I'm a big fan of Pt. Swapan Chaudhury as well. I have the LP rendition of Raag Megh and Sohni by Pt. Nikhil Banerjee and the tabla is amazing by Pt. Swapan Chaudhury!
What a style ! What a feelings !! I don't know how many times I have been listening this raag played by Pt. Ji ..... He is evergreen , he is immortal Artist.. Thousands of salute to him...he is my inspiration.

Actually, the record label does say the Tabla Player is Kanai Dutta. It could be very difficult to make out who the tabla player is listening to the sound of the tabla alone. However, you could actually have the keen ears to do that. Many people do have that capability and I will not argue there. Swapan Chaudhury was born in 1947 and this recording seems to have taken place in 1967. Swapan Chaudhury was twenty years old at that time. Now, he could have been given the opportunity at that young age to play with Nikhil Banerjee in this recording - I don't disagree to that - but it is more likely that Kanai Dutta, who was forty-two years of age in 1967, was asked to record with Nikhil Banerjee (who himself was thirty-five years of age at that time). This last bit is my speculation.
