Raag Malkauns by the legendary Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, live in concert. He sings a Bada Khayal in Jhaptal, Aad daata ant, and a Tarana in Drut Teental.
One of the greatest, we are lucky to hear him singing, but there are so many jewels and James in Indian classical music history, few of them we only heard rumors and stories, few only got short recording with very bad recording quality and some we are lucky enough to get better quality recording, so it's can't be said greatest singer ever lived about no one in my opinion, all of them had their own skills and incomparable singing quality
Thanks a ton for this latest on MM. He makes it a prayer to the god by bringing out the bhava very well. Words do not matter any more. Can there be more sublime singing than this?
Aha, what a delight to hear a combination of a madhya laya khayal followed with a gorgeous tarana by Mansur ji! @Shiladitya, by any chance do you have information about the date & venue of this rendition?
He was trained in Gwalior before the tutelage under Alladiya Khan and sons. Based on the raga being rendered, i think he tweaks his style. Gwalior is better suited to bringing out the nuances and bhava of this raga than the laya oriented jaipur singing. There are a lot of pauses and more enjoyable- in jaipur style he is relentless
I agree with Devansh 😉 Pandit ji makes the supreme decision to choose what to sing. However, now that someone has touched on another issue I must say this. @@sulaganabiswas Technically, the true test of free speech is permitting even speech one disagrees with. I know you haven't opposed free speech but lemme still make a (potentially) useful and definitely pertinent academic point. Permitting speech when one agrees with the content of it happens all the time and is no big deal. A true commitment to free speech-and I am not saying it is necessary or unnecessary, good or bad, my opinion here doesn’t matter-is to be able to say 'I disagree with what someone has said, but my subjective opinion of their utterance is no reason to disallow what they have said. To be able to speak is a right still not available to many and is a divine right that ought to be fundamental-I shall not sit in judgment of whether or not it shall be granted and shall certainly not deprive anyone, ever, of said right'.
Listen with headphones and you'll thank me.. each swara of the taans is crystal clear and filled with so much bhaava. God what an amazing singer
Very good observation.

And terribly terribly underrated. Hardly anyone takes his name nowadays and only true connoisseurs will know what a remarkable artist he was!
I just thought and did put my headphones and then saw your comment.. thank you
What can I comment?Iam an illiterate in classical singing knowledge, but I'm vèry happy to listen singing by Pt Mallikarjuna Mansur especially!

Thanks for giving the rare Bandish and wonderful presentation
More you hear him, more one realises, that he makes difficult singing so easy. A God's gift indeed
Aad daata ant, dayavant tuhi...
Kya pukar lagayi hai us daata ko Panditji ne. Abdhut Gandharva-gaan!
THe greatest singer of khyal who ever lived. I compare every singer to him and find them wanting...

Agreed
Heard it so many times, but this time referred to the original Bandish, wonderful meaning and best presentation.
There is only one life and I have hardly Panditji sing, of course through such mediums. There is so much to hear from all the great masters....
I find no words to express for the appreciation of his style of singing.
Heard this very first time. No words to express my feelings. This is beyond words. Colours of gawaliar can be seen in his gaiki
तारीफ के लिए बस एक ही शब्द है " अद्भुत"
The magnitude of power of music cannot be certainly measured with Panditji reaching the zenith of perfection!!!
Sublime voice lingers centuries long in the universe .oh! No words to express.Madan Doddamani.
No words to express. Simply divine and transcendental. Adbhut...!!!🙏🙏🙏
Heavenly my head spins and brings out suppressed emotions I cry when I hear this rendition
One of the finest Malkauns ever recorded. Is this Ustad Nizamuddin Khan on the tabla?
The mastreo got detached completely from the temporal world.

I stick to my view.
Obviously you care because you seem to be angry about it for some reason. What is your problem even?
Like sudden jump to Heaven and enjoying the flight like.

this is not his typical Jaipur style singing. There is lot of Gwalior influence. How old is this recording ?

@@geethaachar8495 Yes. I know that. His earlier 78 rpm recordings were all Gwalior. So wanted to confirm

The first part is good, but Mallikarjun should not have sung the tarana.
Kindly elaborate,
First learn how to respect Pandit Ji!
I am speechless at your comment seriously. Kuch bhi! Freedom of speech is great but with great freedom comes great responsibility.
It's Mansur who decides what to sing! 😌😏
I agree with Devansh 😉 Pandit ji makes the supreme decision to choose what to sing. However, now that someone has touched on another issue I must say this.
