A Jawa 42 Owner Rode My Honda Highness CB 350: He Didn't Seem Impressed

  • Jawa 42 or Honda Highness CB350? What will be your pick?
I spotted a Jawa 42 owner on the road last Sunday and could not help but talk to the gentleman about his ownership experience with the Jawa and what he thinks about the Honda H'ness CB350.
We also swapped bikes for a short distance and exchanged notes. This is not a comparison, this is not a review - this is just me trying to understand the psyche of a Jawa rider.
I hope you are enjoying the Honda Highness CB350 video series. There's still more to come :)
If you like my work or are interested in knowing about my other motorcycles, you can check out my Instagram page: / abhinavbhatt19
    Have a nice day. Cheers

I just took test drive of both today, and I booked honda after it.
No doubt, jawa pulls wayyy better than honda. Honda and jawa are mostly the same, you won't feel much difference in weight. The seat height is low and that makes a difference in complete riding feel of bike.
Braking and acceleration is hands down, better in jawa. But the moment you start riding honda, you will realise honda is too smooth and you will realise the same in the very same minute you start riding the bike.
Jawa does feel good, looks better too, but is not something I can rely on. Honda is buttery smooth and not a slouch for city rides or small 100km rides. ❤️

@@saktibiswal6445 Buddy, I'm more towards riding fast.. I tried riding dominar yesterday. ( Yes, I still had doubts about honda so I took test drive of dominar too ) but it's not smooth. It's just faster.
I took test drive of every vehicle which comes under 2.5 lakh and interceptor, and go by my word... Honda is the smoothest to ride, it's buttery smooth. It made me change my decision, to live with a bit slower but smooth engine. :P
The only thing which is as close as highness I'd interceptor 650.
Idk about sumit guy, but how come Abhinav never talked about vibrations?
Bcoz there are none until 90 km. Post which I can't guarantee you bcoz I've not driven it post 90 but again.. the engine doesn't feel like it will vibrate.

I think his opinion was a little biased!! From a psychological perspective, I understand people tend to show that they got lucky with a special bike among the lot of same bikes, people don't like to show they regret their buy. Plus like you said, Honda is for the more mature audience and Indians in general are not, that's why Honda CB Tigger's production was stopped when it was the best utility bike India has seen, it didn't sell because it was a very sober looking bike, Indians didn't understand how great it was, it had best handling, most comfortable, best braking and best fuel economy and decent power yet it didn't show on sales and Honda had to take it off of Indian roads.

I have owned pulsar 150 &' 220 both and it comes nowhere near trigger in terms of Ride quality and experience anywhere. Yes you're right in saying Pulsar has a design that's more eye candy, but the more "mature riders" don't care about looks, they just care about the ride quality and overall experience. In city Trigger is better and on highways Trigger is even better cuz Pulsar has a slightly forward inclined / focused ride posture, so your back is bound to hurt in the long run irrespective of your fitness, that's where Honda's upright seating posture gets an advantage cuz you can ride on a Trigger all day long without any fatigue.

Almost nothing.I have seen a customer throw his signals edition to garbage.A himalayan completely broken down at Ladakh. A bike with 19 bhp.vibrated viciously!
Cheated their customers.Except Interceptor 650.Though it's exhaust doesn't look so good. You also made a video on various exhaust on Interceptor.I don't no why Sumit saying giving mileage 30 odd,may be he's running more in city traffic. But I am getting 35 odd in city despite having DB killer removed. And 39-40 in Highway. What Jawa brought,a competition to improve the most loved Royal Enfield of our own.Hope Meteor will bring a new charm.Great to watch your video again. You both rock..!🤘

How come 1.85 Lakhs bike will get RUST within 6 month to one year. From Day one I am frustrated with the Bike. So Please think and act before booking JAWA.

I haven't even watched the video but I've told the same to many people before. The dominar and java are not at all in the same segment as the RE350, Imperial 400 or Honda CB 350.
The fundamental difference is not at all obvious at first glance...they all look very similar(except the domi) and are marketed to similar buyers.
The engines are COMPLETELY different. Domi and Java are oversquared high compression high revving overhead cam motors. They will be faster. In the case of java it's also relatively smoother. These motors are more of a sports-tourer ish motors that are a compromise between a cruiser and a high performance bike.
The disadvantages are higher engine temperature, higher maintenance, much lower engine life and peak power and torque comes much later in the rev range compared to the RE/Honda engine.
    Now I'll watch the video.
Edit: Cool guy. He explained the difference really well. Although the mirrors vibration seems to contradict what Abhinav has said🤔.

My cousin's Jawa 42 accelerator cable failed on the first day of ride and throttle was open fully and my cousin stalled tne bike. And when he tried to start back, the bike didn't start as the throttle was open. The odo read 62 km and was stranded on the highway... He sold the 42 in a year.
So many wrong commitments on the delivery part.
I've ridden the Jawa extensively for 100 Km. But, I rode the CB350 and Meteor after the Jawa.
In terms of refinement, the CB350 trumps both and I'd put meteor in the 2nd place. The handling of CB350 was also excellent.
Even though jawa is slightly peppier, I'd stay away from Jawa for the lack of reliability, refinement, Pre and post sale service.

Biggest problem with jawa is ground clearance in hills if u try to tilt it turn I m sure you will found it touches the ground but I must say when you ride jawa you will feel lil muscular because of the broad handel and it has good control on road while riding which is lacking in classic. Honda highness is no doubt much refined it has very less vibration and has more seat hight than jawa.

I preferred the Jawa std on the test ride just for its peppy engine. In Mumbai it's anyway difficult to find even a km's patch on a western express highway empty. So knowing that the maximum I'll be riding is at 80kph - 100kph for like 10 sec max, and a better dealership spread here, I'll go for the Jawa. Honda needs to get its Big Wing stuff widespread for good network

One thing I am confirming you - I am a big big Honda fan and I rode all over the country for 6 years with Cbr250r... Now true fact is that - A true Honda lover will dream atleast for a second hand cbr650f / r or a new cbr250r or cbr250rr or cb400x etc... Yaar Honda is not for this motorcycle which runs out of power after 110/115 km/hr max... What Honda launched is not bad, but it should be in line with its cb300 performance oriented liquid cooled engine which can run from 80km/hr to 140/145 km/hr and all through super smoothness... Now RE ppl will go for RE again, then which customer segment Honda is looking with this new launch 🤔... I saw all your vlogs, then came up with this comment 🙂🙂

What he likes in Jawa compared to Honda :
      1. Lighter steering feel
      2. Better Brakes front & Rear.
      3. Better engine response and higher top-end.
      4. Better at filtering traffic.
      5. no vibes at mirror

      1. Big bike Feel
