God's jazz blessing . Now who says God doesn't know jazz and blues. If anyone thinks God doesn't know music well...... Then God help you. Lambert hendricks Ross and Joe Williams. Thank you God for creating them.
I grew up on this music. My parents had the album, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross. in the early 60s I think. I can still remember this song right now. And I love Joe Williams too! what can I do!
No one who has lived through the '50s and be aware of the pressures placed on media to reject even the slightest recognition of Black people on television can fail to recognize the significance of a Annie Ross, a White woman, welcoming Joe to their already integrated vocal group. Bravo to Annie, to Hugh Heffner, who produced it all -- to the musicians, it was all very natural. If you hadn't lived through these terrible times, you had no idea of the nastiness of the views and actions of those who lived in the segregationist world in those days. Aside from all that, this is wonderful music, and thankfully, I got to hear all of these wonderful artists in their prime.
My god!!! How could you ask for more? Dave, Annie, John and Joe. The apex of talent and cool. The drummer said more with one cymbal a hihat and a basic drum set then drummers do today with 15000 worth of drums.I was blessed to have seen Joe Williams at the Blue Note in NYC in 71 he had nat and cannon ball atterly as his horns Ron McCurdy on drums and I think carol Kaye on bass can't remember the other guys. Joe was a god givin sweetheart to everyone. Rip joe
This is amazing to watch - like a well oiled machine with many different moving parts! Funny too, when Annie starts chirping on those syncopated high notes in response to the boys!
Years ago I saw a Lambert Ross Hendricks in the same setting, different song in which Hendricks took off into a scat and it seems they all took turns - it was magnificent. I've not been able to find it again, Woe is me.
Yes that one note, Annie is the queen of accent. What are the odds these four had stars written way before jazz emerged on the planet....the whole thing is so beautifully done.
How totally awesome - the epitome of 50's swing and cool. I just saw a wonderful show that Kurt Elling put on at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola here in NY in honor of Hendricks that featured two of his daughters and other wonderful singers paying honor to his genius and his incredible lyrics. Vocalese lives! Incredible to see live.
Hi Guy; Kurt Elling did a similar show here in Portland, OR last year w/ Hendrick's daughters & Kevin Burke (who I saw w/ JH back in the 70s). Nancy King joined them for a couple songs. The Portland State University jazz choir joined for the finale... a great, great tribute.
This is the greatest Jazz vocal ever, period. Joe Williams was the icing on this cake. The vocal arrangement, the unbeatable swing tempo, the spirit, the dedication is remarkable. It makes me feel good and thankful every time I rerun "Every Day I Have The Blues" by L, H, R and W.
I don't know how she pulls off just hitting that one note, but she does it. Miss Annie Ross. What a night that must have been. Thank God they recorded it and thanks to RUclips, we get to see it. hanks for posting.
@@Rory99M even a "singular, unique talent" has to practice to make full use of her abilities. Practice also opens up possibilities which you may never have dreamed of. This is not meant to demean her talent. I'm just proposing a likely route that her talent might have taken to get where she did.

Wish I was there... what the hell, I feel like I just was! LH&R were (and are) incredible. And as someone else said, Joe Williams was the icing on a very special cake.
Brilliant. The interplay between Williams and Hendricks is a treat, but it's all good, and the visual enjoyment of this LH&R performance solidifies that they were not merely Magnificent Singers, but that they were also Great Entertainers. (Basie and Green in the rhythm section? HUGE.) Addendum, one year later: I just found out that this was from Hugh Hefner's FIRST TV series "Playboy's Penthouse," in 1959. (His second, "Playboy After Dark," would be on about ten years later.) It's hard to that believe broadcast television was ever this hip.
This is the hippest thing I have ever seen! Joe Williams is the personification of cool and L, H & R are at the top of their game and that is awesome to behold. Thanks for posting this.
The last time I saw Joe Williams, I was sitting five or six feet in front of him. He was unwavering, cool, burning ... and yes, he sang his "butt" off.
watched this again after like half a year annie ross is a queen i just can't believe her charm, comedy and phrasing everyone in this clip -> the epitome of cool
Glad it's not just me. Literally pulled up any video of them singing that I ciuld find. Watched interviews, etc. I got a bit sad watching them go from their youth through old age and then learning of their passing. MS. Ross having passed recently. Ms. Bavan seems to be the last survivor of this group. Did the same thing with the Mills Brothers 🤔. Still, these folks were fantastic. Actually heading to a vintage record store to see what they have.

Joe. Always and forever.
Every day I have the Blues. Now we Count Basie on the program now.

sing it now, every way!! I get Blue! Hendricks Lambert and Ross!
Tony Bennett just chilling smoking a rette and drinking. Sitting on that table swinging to Joe Williams. Great party to be at.
Priceless jazz vocal history.
Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, were one of my favorite groups when I was from about 10 years old. I knew all their songs in the 60s.
Cloudburst, was my favorite.
I wish I could have seen this live....🥰
Every day I have the blues
A lot of these new artists need schooling with vocals like these. LEGENDS
Joe Williams performed “ Everyday” so effortlessly, a song perfectly written for his magnificent voice.
4 legendary masters at work!! Just that simple!! 💯🙏🏽

Man I wish there were more of this music being done today. Nothing better in my opinion!
This must be what Heaven is like.

Lambert ,Hendricks and Ross : The best vocalise singers ever. Manhattan Transfer is a close second.

Manhattan Transfer sang Hendricks lyrics.
