Installing now. I don't seem to have a yellow cord in my wall and nothing was hooked to the old switch. Not sure what to do so I'm just gonna cap it. I may be about to get an express ride to heaven. Wish me luck boys.

What happens if you pull the chain after install? Will the switch stop working?

In my master bedroom I have one hardwired switch for the ceiling light. There is now a ceiling fan/light combo installed. The light and fan are not hardwired separately. Do you have a smart switch product, or combination of switches, that I can install to control both the light and fan from this one hardwired location. And if possible to add a pico remote to locate by the master bath door to control both, or at least the light from that location. Thanks!

Hi Brett, Currently at this time, the fan and light would have to be two separate smart controls. Individual wiring would need to be run from the fan down to the wallbox- one wire that controls the fan and another that controls the light. Lutron does make a stand-alone wall box control for light and fan, the MACL-LFQ, however, this cannot be added into a smart home system and would require independent load wires as well. Thanks

@@Lutron-Electronics thanks for getting back to me. The fan currently has a Hunter remote installed (radio frequency type I guess you’d call it. With a receiver mounted in the fan canopy) I guess I could continue to use that for the fan only and install the smart switch with Pico for the light only. Would that cause any problems?

@@bretthollenbeck812 Hi Brett, Lutron fan controls are designed to control a standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only uses pull-chains to adjust its speeds. A fan that has its own remote or wall control typically uses a proprietary control technology and would likely be incompatible with a third-party fan speed control. We suggest you reach out to the fan manufacturer to verify if this control would be compatible with their fan. If you have additional questions, please reach out to our Support Team at support@lutron.com or give us a call at 1-844-LUTRON1.

@@Lutron-Electronics This point you made--"standard 3-speed ceiling fan which only uses pull-chains to adjust its speeds"--needs to be amplified, clarified, and prominently mentioned up front in your literature about this product. I am shopping for two new ceiling fans and I do want to control them with the Caseta switch. If I know my options are limited to old-fashioned fans with pull chains then I know ahead of time to forget about using a Caseta control (unfortunately). Additionally, you suggest "reaching out to the fan manufacturer to verify if this control would be compatible with their fan." Come on. The manufacturers are in China. There is no "reaching out" to ask technical questions or get answers. Please suggest something more practical, such as some technical spec to look for in the data sheet that websites often feature with an electrical product. I plan on using Lutron Caseta products in my home renovation, but I hope you can do better next time in your responses to consumer questions.

You shouldn't have made this video if you weren't going to explain how to determine the load wire. Fail.
