U chose the wrong crew, this one is good: Grolo, Blustan, Bronxaag, Fligronk, Bru (!) Engineers Priority: Reactor, Scanner, Weapon, Engine, Batteries. Turn off two shields (star and port), one weapon system (i think Grolo's least favourite was the blaster), one engine (traveling at a speed of 4 is still fast enough). Most important is to scan the enemy starships. After identifying them, the scanner gets an idea of what weapon is used best against it. It is shown on the scanning/display.
@wandererlain I could beat the easy level every time, and usually succeeded when I tried for the intermediate level planet. Mainly, I'd fly as fast as I could via the lowest risk route until I got a ship or two in range. Then I'd stop, change the energy to prioritize shields instead of engines, dealt with the ships if they were enemies, then continued on. New enemies don't really appear if you're not moving - it's when you keep moving that you're likely to get overwhelmed.
i wish they would do a modern remake with better graphics hard to think they got all this into 64k of memory well less if you take into account rom memory
Mate I would love this game but NEVER got anywhere. I would spend an age picking the crew, then we be off , all systems go and normal . Suddenly it goes down and we are under attack, urgency, stress and sweat everywhere and then we are in bits ! Barely ever got 15 mins in, I assume there is a game in there as all I 'traded' was missiles and swear words
Played this for hours and hours on my old commodore 64!

theres a very similar game out there called FTL:faster then light. It can run on a ps1era pc no probs and the gameplay is pure magnificence.
