As a self taught beginner tuner, these are my favorite videos. Also, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, as a teacher, Jimmy is pretty damn good at explaining concepts without diluting the meaning. A+ job sir.
Um, it's an emissions thing like Nissan. The secondary ignition fires on the exhaust stroke to ignite any unburnt fuel. It's nothing to do with the actual igniting of the power stroke. You would have to set the secondary ignition just advanced of the primary to hurt the piston or ring Lans. Doing that would be about as dumb as thinking deleting the secondary system for smart coils could damage the pistons.
I learned this summer. I always heard that before but I really learned it by halfway through the process. Guess I’ll just have to go back and redo the front of the MR2T. I have plenty of leftover paint and supplies.
@@negativeindustrial I learnt from a old gentleman that had 40 plus year's in the field, and he stressed, perfection is in the prep... and that applied to all painting, house's, car's, bike's it didn't matter. In 3 years I was running the company with 20+ crew under me and learned a great deal about painting.
So stoked to see the Porsche running again! Also...Jimmy please get Spoon some proper fab tables. Look into Langmuir tables, super nice for the money. It will change things big time for you guys!!!
Great video with air cooled Porsche content. Air cooled Porsches usually have twin spark when they are set up with higher compression. The high comp piston design reduces the efficiency of a single spark which can’t produce a flame front that bridges the hump in the piston top. The second spark below solves the problem.
JIMMY been needing a breakdown wiring video from someone who I can actually understand when they are putting it into words thank you for the ever so detailed description!!!!!
I think we need a side quest video with rjay a day in the working life of rjay. We no what everyone else does and rjay is a key member and original og let’s see his day in the oaks garage 😊
You can problems with knocking when removing the secondary coils. Sometimes manufacterer add these to compensate for inefficient combustion chambers (they value flow and Power over knock potential). It will be very interesting to see the results of turning them off. Learned that Fromm a professor at our university who designed engines for 20 years
Events and big videos are fun but honestly the thing that makes this channel my favorite is the in depth build videos. As much as Adam LZs videos are crazy good, I miss the older days of him wrenching in the garage doing stuff I could take inspiration from working at home myself. Keep up the great work!
Great to see your process. I usually use ropes of different sizes to lay out the routing and then go into my CAD-cave and fiddle around for a while before I start building on the drawings I made
Ive been following Jimmy Oakes for about 5 years now since he appeared on the Hoonigan channel helping them build a harness for one of their Garage Garage build series. The Oakes garage has came along way in 5 years. Keep grinding homie your channel is always entertaining
I just enjoy the VIBE from Jimmy and his gang I look forward to every upload I've only been watching for about a month but I'm catching up on all the past vids but quickly becoming my favorite channel on YT. Plus the cars r fly af
Please , always go in depth like this in wiring , as well as content I get too learn a lot and continue too use this sort of info in my build 😅👍🏼 top video as always 👌🏼👌🏼
My first full time job was at a Train factory/assembly plant. First department I was in was making the Engine Harnesses, the chassis heli like 20 different "looms" each being 2-3" thick and hundreds of pounds total. I also got to pin cannon plugs of 60+ pins 😂😂😂 really enjoyed this video
I started following during the hoonigan cameo. Dude made light work of wiring the sh!tcar. It seemed like everyone wanted to engine swap but nobody wanted to wire the darn thing. Jimmy seemed to always make problem solving entertaining. This is the way
You're probably right because you've wired that ecu before. But from an automation standpoint you explained digital inputs kinda weird. It's basically an on off status. Not a scaled voltage input like analogs
Love the Porsche update. It’s coming together so quickly it’s going to be amazing and spoon your car is looking so sick. That cage is so sweet everybody keep up the great work you guys rock.
Copped my Rx7 Tee soon as it dropped. First time ordering merch from anybody 😂 it goes hard tho so worth paying the shipping to the uk 🇬🇧 keep smashing it Jimmy! 👊🏼
Hopefully spoon doesn’t read this , but you should down the line create an episode surprising him with a new work station. I think it would a great episode , just an idea 🙂
So excited to see Porsche content again. Have you considered converting to ethrottle? You could remove the idle control valve, which would simplify the engine bay and remove the physical cable that runs from the pedal to the engine.
Dude omg i need a shirt iv been waiting for you and adam to do a collab on merch im surprised it didnt happen sooner this is the sickest merch collaboration yall have ever done i love it its so fire 🔥
Watching you wrapping that harness took me back to my apprentice days when I had to build a prototype harness for a kit car on a 8 ft by 6 ft board with markerpen outlines of the whole electrical system. We had to use the old school looming cord and no plugs, all ring, spade, blade and male and female terminals. A 1 day test and it had to be a one piece harness all working without ever seeing the car. That was the first and last day I've ever used looming cord as I'm an industrial electrician and everything is in/on cabe tray, trunking, conduit or hidden behind panels. Love your work but it's no Rob Dahm milspec harness LOL
Great video, I am a prototype wireman, so I used to wire for a living, so I can say you are doing a great job, But please buy a real heatgun, they are cheap, Also I know you upgraded the charging system, is that wire the correct size for the max current ? Great Idea on the coil Dyno test video, I remember in the 1980 that Alfa did 2x plugs a cylinder, I don't know if it helped, I may well have done as the fuel system was not as good back then, Good luck Keep them coming, Dave from the UK
the collab is awesome, i bought a hoodie and both banners and shit you not 25 minutes later i got emailed a disocunt code for them lol, glad to see some Porsche content again
Yo you need to check out the woven/braided wrap around loom that several companies sell. You can build your harness, then put the loom on and use the tesa tape to secure it and for any of the intersections where wires exit the harness. heck even Holley makes a fancy flame retardant version
James you are such a better teacher than any of my professors, most of whom make well into the 6 figures. I hate wiring, but these videos always give me short burst of motivation to go rewire my car 😂
BLESS YOU RJ! saw some weird tiktok that only americans says something when others sneezes and as an example he used sweden WHICH IS SO WRONG! im swedish and IM THE ONLY ONE SAYING SOMETING!!! xD
As a self taught beginner tuner, these are my favorite videos.
Also, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, as a teacher, Jimmy is pretty damn good at explaining concepts without diluting the meaning. A+ job sir.
Jimmy if you want to keep the pistons in shape you will need all 12 coils.
It designed to have twin spark, it will melt ringlands if you don’t use it
Why would it melt the ringlands?
Genuinely curious because I have no idea why and how that would cause it to melt pistons
@@yasha1928my guess is for the same reason detonation does, uneven combustion
It may have been designed to need twin spark using the old distributor and leads, but that might not be an issue with the smart coils.
Um, it's an emissions thing like Nissan. The secondary ignition fires on the exhaust stroke to ignite any unburnt fuel. It's nothing to do with the actual igniting of the power stroke. Nahhh not needed with modern, efficient coils. Jimmy knows whatsup
As a fellow painter, Spoon know its all in the prep when your doing a job you want perfect 👌 keep up the great work man. I'm rooting for ya!!!✊️💪🙏👏
I second this, id say its harder to not fuck up the prep at all than to lay the paint xD

That man was not wrong.
The content has really leveled up with austin! Keep it up fellas!
Jim uploads, I watch. Even when it's wiring stuff that he explains simply but still goes over my head 😂
So stoked to see the Porsche running again! Also...Jimmy please get Spoon some proper fab tables. Look into Langmuir tables, super nice for the money. It will change things big time for you guys!!!
I'd look into Fireball Tools and support a family owned business.
Preach jimmy. Crimp is the way of the world.

Thanks for making the videos longer guys. Y’all listened and delivered
This. The short videos were nice but these 30 plus minutes of serotonin is needed.
JIMMY been needing a breakdown wiring video from someone who I can actually understand when they are putting it into words thank you for the ever so detailed description!!!!!
Yes love the drifting videos but this is what I’m here for the beautiful builds
I definitely appreciate the double working on this video it makes it feel like a legit tv show
Agreed. Nice to see spoon finally getting to touch his car.
I think we need a side quest video with rjay a day in the working life of rjay. We no what everyone else does and rjay is a key member and original og let’s see his day in the oaks garage 😊
Rjay is the unsung hero for sure
@@rebeccaabbott1850 absolutely
What does Steve do?
I really like the way you guys flipped back and fourth between the 2 different cars progress during this one.

I don't know what it is, but I'm addicted to Porsche content. This series got me in a chokehold 😂
86 and Porsche content, what an amazing start to the weekend!
Love watching Spoon weld, man is such a perfectionist.
Get that man Spoon a welding table so he can get after it, great video guys.
I think this is my 14 wiring tutorial from you. Can’t believe you still make these things. Wild patience but I love how you always take the challenge.
Really really enjoying the longer videos!

not lying. too many trips lately
Man so great to hear Jimmy say “ leave for Canada 🇨🇦 “
Cannot wait, I hope I get to meet you all
Great to see your process. I usually use ropes of different sizes to lay out the routing and then go into my CAD-cave and fiddle around for a while before I start building on the drawings I made
Love the videos to death but your all human. Take a brake if needed don't stress about a missed video or Two. We will all still watch and support
Great Video! I enjoyed the dueling Time lapse of the harness while Spoon was welding; it gave you a sense of how much was getting done.
Spoon building "Racecar" stuff!
This is probably one of the most enjoyable and informative harness videos I have watched
Man seeing the DPT banner in the background is the best. The sickest banner made
Ive been following Jimmy Oakes for about 5 years now since he appeared on the Hoonigan channel helping them build a harness for one of their Garage Garage build series. The Oakes garage has came along way in 5 years. Keep grinding homie your channel is always entertaining
I remember that video and being hype seeing jimmy on another channel I watch 😂
RiP Shitcar. That was my favorite build on hoonigan ngl
This is unbelievably fascinating good lord
Jimmy I can not explain how valueable this information is and I love to learn on your channel.
Super funny just seeing spoons head out if the back window, next to Jimmy is hilarious !
+1 for crimping.. Solder is ok on a fix, but vibrations tend to break solder if there is any movement, crimp if making a harness / perm fix.
im so hyped for spoon's build!
i still dont understand how you guys dont have more subs! video quality is amazing
absolutely loving the long videos lately, thank you
“ buy once , cry once “ is my new favorite phrase ✌🏽

I’m loving these long videos James , keep it up
Throwback to Jimmy making a harness over at old hoonigan hq
Bruh this video is perfect for me, I'm legit starting a project 964 hopefully soon and now I have a perfect example to follow

It felt like I was being tutored when Jimmy sat down and explained the harness setup.
The perfect balance of entertaining and informational. ☯
Anyone else impress with that table holding the flat 6 with out flexing?
This actually made more sense outta wiring for me then any other video I've watched or maybe it just made more sense coming from Jimmy thanks jimmy
That was a very easy to understand explanation of how you take on the wire mapping on the link 👏
Jimmy is low key one smart mother trucker.
Nice to see some progress on Spoon's 86!
Bro u killed that harness!! Looks amazing and ur tutorial is very understandable. Great video!! Spoon ur the man!! Honda baby👊🏽 Love this channel
Jimmy makes me wanna just go rip apart my car apart and redo the whole harness cause he makes it looks so simple and breaks it down efficiently
My GAHD ur spoiling us with the long vids, keep em comin
These are the uploads I live for. Prof Oakes taking everybody through a dirty wiring harness lesson. Absolute gold bro!

Loving the long videos, tbh. Shout out to all you guys.
For the harness loom use some plastik wire loom, BMW uses it, really easy, fast and good looking!
