    Question. With the slab so thick, how do you know where to split it? Couldn't there be fossils at any point along the thickness or layers?
    love the show BTW

    • @7llininthedream
      @7llininthedream 3 года назад +1

      This is true, but most people spit as close to the middle as possible to have a greater chance at uncovering something. They do not continue to split the slab because that would then be too thin and brittle.

    Now those are brilliant Bryan, just the way I like fish (even the smell of fish fresh or cooked and eating fish and shellfish gives me a type of food poisoning). Its such a shame the big fish you found had lost its head but you certainly found some beautiful examples of the fossils. Matrix was having fun as usual and the weather was perfect for fossil hunting. What an amazing place, all the rocks in layers stacked up so high, it took my breath away lol. I have to laugh at Matrix barking at the horses from the safety of the campervan, I wonder if he realises just how much larger they are than he is lol. Wyoming looks beautiful at least what you showed us, there is beauty everywhere and I love that I get to see it through the camera lens. Take and and stay safe please my friend God bless you love and hugs to you and Matrix Mary-Ellen UK

    Seems like a really fun place to dig at, but it bothers me that even though you pay quite a bit of cash to dig, you are only allowed to keep the most common fish finds, anything a bit more special you have to leave behind...

    • @ScottyHunter
      @ScottyHunter 3 года назад +2

      Agreed, that does seem a bit stupid to me. Pay $100 for the day, put in all the hard work, then just hand over the high value stuff you find for THEM to sell? No thanks.

Also I was fortunate when I was younger and found two of the rarest full shell turtles from the green river formation at the flaming gorge.. 40 million years old. Charlie love did all the research on them. Very cool video.

    A cool thing about these also is that you have to be so careful not to brush them off, some of the remains brushes of! Who knew!😊. Also, the rock is moist when it comes off the mountain and as it dries after being mined it doesn’t split very well.

    Warfield Fossils costs a bit less than American Fossil Quarry, but at Warfield, you only get to keep fossil fish. If you find anything rare, you have to turn it over to them (Stingrays, mammals, etc). For a little bit more, American Fossil Quarry (Directly across the road from Warfield Fossils) lets you keep everything you find, up to $100,000 in value. If you find anything valued over that amount, you become a three-way partner with the quarry owner, and the quarry operator. You all then decide what is going to bee done with the piece .... Sell it, put it on display in a museum, you buy them out and take it home with you, they buy you out, etc. All this is as of last year. Things may have changed, so it's best to call for information.
