  • A classic recipe, these red-curry-flavoured fish cakes can be found everywhere in Thailand! The preparations are really simple, the hardest part is getting the right fish. Go with something super tender and you'll be fine. I'm using basa and it worked out great!

Thank you for sharing all these recipes with us :3 I am allergic to most western food as I can't eat grains or starchy foods, thai cuisine has saved me from a world of sad plain chicken breast and spinach meals. You're the best :3

My husband and I just made these delicious fish cakes and sauce for lunch. They were even better than they looked (if that is possible!). We used the basa and the only other substitution was green beans instead of long beans. We did not deep fry but pan fried as you suggested and they were gorgeous and not greasy at all. This will be added to our regular recipe rotation, thank you!!

Pai, you're most charming and your recipes are genuine. You demonstrate the procedures very well. You are my go-to channel when I want to cook certain Thai dishes. Your fish cakes truly look great, and I know they are better than the ones in Thailand - because you use fresh oil, and you don't use MSG, which is such a hassle when eating out in Thailand. Lots of love xxx

Pai, thank you for this recipe. I have been dying to have nice fishcakes like the ones I had in Thailand. I'm relatively new to cooking (but an expert eater 😁) but I managed to make these easily. They came out great. I even crumbed some of them in panco just to be fancy. The sweet chilli sauce was a hit too.
Your instructions are easy to follow and the tips you give are very helpful (like using water and shaping the cakes just before dropping them in the oil).
I look forward to making more of your recipes. God bless you 😇

I made them for lunch today and they were so delicious, my boyfriend who usually doesn't like fish gobbled them up! They are so easy to make, I used trout because it's what I had in the freezer and it still worked. Also added one grated potato because I was out of eggs. So I modified it quite a bit but still used the same herbs and spices. It was so good, can't wait to try with other fish. Thank you for this recipe, it is definitely a keeper !

Finally made these today with some stir-fried nappa on the side, and they were perfect! I used coal fish - the stuff that fish fingers are made of. Easily the cheapest fish fillet available here in Germany, it was just fine. It's almost a shame to camouflage all the aromatics in the fish cakes with the super yummy dipping sauce.
N.B. I would not say it's really simple, there is quite some prep involved if you make your own sauce. A heaping tbsp of fish mix makes for rather large cakes, level tbsp is more to my taste. Use surgical gloves (word?) to form the cakes, no water needed. They come in handy for many things ...

I made these and they are fantastic. I live in Thailand, so I can easily buy them. However, I'm on a low-carb diet to control my blood glucose, so I have to be careful about buying from a place that might put sugar/starch in them for some reason. When I saw this, I adapted it to low carb and it worked out GREAT!
I'm wondering if I wanted to make these in bulk so I can freeze them, should I cook them all first, then freeze them once they have cooled down, or just freeze the patties raw and cooked them later. I'm inclined to cook all first because easier oil management, but not sure how cooked fish cakes would be reheated.

Just tried to make them for the first time and they turned out to be delicious! I used frozen hake and I actually liked the final texture. The tod mun I have eaten before were always slightly rubberish and bouncy, while mine were really soft and tender. I used a whole egg, however, instead of just the yolk, cause the paste was a bit dry at first.
I will definitely make it again. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!!!

So funny what you say in the begin of the show about you can find it all over Thailand. I’m currently on the Airport waiting on my flight home I was in Thailand for 3,5 weeks. I only saw it on my first day in Bangkok! But i was so full and my friends said we definetly gonna see it again. We went to a lot of food markets alle over Thailand didn’t find them :( . So Thank you for sharing. I WILL GET MY FISH CAKES!!!
Ps. I’m addicted to Thai food now and watch already al lot of your shows!! Keep the Good work up. Your amazing!

My family loves visiting Bangkok & enjoy Thai Cuisine . Now because of the Lockdown ,they are not able to travel. So Im trying your NO FAIL recipes at home.Ive got some salmon fillets. Can that be used for this recipe.?....Btw Ive tried your crispy Fried Smooth Taufu /Long Beans with salted eggs/& other recipes... & it was a Hit!!! Thank you & Take Care...

I made it just now. Mine came out wrinkly and deflated fast from the frying pan to the plate 😄 Could be because I used store-bought fresh fish paste from Chinatown as my first experiment 🤭
But they are awesomely tasty just like from Thai resto!! ❤️

When on vacation in the Philippines I'm always sweating in the taxi's and it seems their AC's never work good enough. So When I watch Pailin or Mark Wiens I only hear Sweaty Cab...
