The lyrics refer to the end of the break down of a relationship hence: When the War is over, As Jimmy walks off, he says: "Killer" referring to the brilliant job John did of this song. The very last thing John says in this is "I gotta tell you, I got a bigger kick out of that than you did" They both respect each other's talents.
It's been a bit of a journey for John. But he's doing well now! Jimmy has had some health issues recently as well. But he is also well on the mend! And yes, John and Jimmy are very good friends and they have a very healthy respect for each other!
I came from Vietnam missing part of my right foot. My war was over. I spent time in Mexico getting crazy. A great lady saved me from my own destructive path.
Two aussie legends. Love cold chisel (Jimmys band) and John Farnham. Both are great friends. Most Australian singers are good friends as they know each other well especially cold chisel, INXS, AC/DC, midnight oil and Keith urban also has done songs with Jimmy and Jimmy has sung with Keith when he has toured Australia. I was at Keith urban concert when he started singing flame trees which is a cold chisel song and Jimmy came on and the crowd who were mainly country fans went off and everyone in crowd was singing. It was epic. Keith’s voice was great but Jimmys was brilliant
Great reaction. Some info: Cold Chisel were/are one of Australia’s greatest rock n’ roll bands. A product of the same tough pub rock scene as AC/DC, but with more diverse music, “Chisel” formed in Adelaide in 1973, moved to Sydney in 1976, released their first album in 1978, and had disbanded by the end of 1983. Despite breaking up in 1983, Cold Chisel have enjoyed briefly reforming for studio albums in 1998, 2012, 2015, 2019, and there have been numerous other releases. To get a feel for their wilder side, check out their cover of "Wild Thing".

I was at a concert in Tasmania, that rained non -stop, for hours. Meanwhile on stage, John sang and sang through the rain. He gave everything to those fans who came to hear him ! Even through all that, the concert sounded like a perfect recording !
Jimmy missed his cue so they had to drag it out a little lol. He had no warm up etc and both trying to sing in the open air with a bit of a breeze isn't easy for most singers. I love the more mature Jimmy now..I wasn't always a fan lol. But John & Jimmy's friendship has stood the test of time. Love your channel guys. ps John is now cancer free and his sons say he is even singing in the shower lol. Jimmy is in good health now and slowly getting back to normal with the help of his beloved family. I wonder if you would check out another Aussies legend Guy Sebastian? I'd love that.
Jimmy did 22 songs this day including some of his best live performances of the time- John did 4 songs. So I do believe Jimmy was more than a little exhausted by this point in the evening ! I’m not sure he missed his cue, he started to sing back stage before he walked out you can hear him. He’s probably had a few more drinkies since his performances sure but as I said, 22 songs on this same day so his voice was more than warmed up. I’m not sure of the full story I’m sure Jimmy has many under his belt, all I know is that this was at the end of a HUGE day of live songs. John on the other hand was nice and fresh and only did a few songs at this show.

John's back up singers were both with him for well over 25 years. Vanetta Fields - Born in Buffalo New York During the '60's & 70's was a touring backing singer & recording backing singer for Ike & Tina Turner, Pink Floyd, Humble Pie, Barbra Streisand, Elkie Brooks, Neil Diamond, Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger and the Rolling Stones. Moved to Aus in 1982 She recorded or toured as a backing singer for Australian artists Richard Clapton, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, James Morrison and John Farnham & continued to sing with George Benson, Dionne Warwick, Streisand, Thelma Houston and Randy Crawford whenever they toured Australia. Lindsay Field - Australian Musical theatre artist, vocal coach, session & touring back up singer with such artists as Olivia Newton-John, Jimmy Barnes, Glenn Shorrock, Renee Geyer and Brian Cadd , producer, solo artist & long time collaborator with John.
Yes it was an impromtu surprise performance by Jimmy...but he did miss his cue a bit lol. While this is a cold chisel song, written by Steve Prestwich the drummer, it is also a regular on Johns setlist as well. Because when Cold Chisel split up, Steve joined the Little River Band where John was the lead singer at the time. He bought the song with him so it also became a regular part of LRB setlist. When John left LRB he had the right to continue singing all LRB songs that he recorded. It has become one of the most popular songs for both Cold Chisel and John❤❤❤
John is such a great performer, he’s just there for the music, the love, his band and his fans, John always has a great time on stage, and lives to entertain. John is the greatest male vocalist of all time. Jimmy had a bit of rareness in his voice in this one but can sing a lot better, plus I’m pretty sure Jimmy had had a few here.
Good version but Cold Chisel's version is the best. Check out their version from their Ringside concerts. They have 2 lead singers, and the other bloke, Ian Moss has a great voice. Other popular songs of theirs are Choir Girl, , Four Walls, Cheap Wine, Flame Trees, etc but i also suggest you check out their version of Wild Thing from their Last Stand concerts or Bow River from their Ringside concerts. Both are great live performances.
Check out all of Cold chisel but especially Khe Sahn, Bow River, Saturday Night and when the war is over cos you will see the other singing half of chisel who is the incredible Ian Moss
I think that this one was in the 'Hay, Mate!' outdoors charity concert in the countryside for farmers during Australia's very long drought . (Correct me, someone, if I'm wrong.) John has dome a number of concerts for charity. John owns a farm and he and his wife breed quarter-horses. John is a part-time 'cowboy' and has won awards for cutting cattle with his quarter-horse breed. He's doing well now concerning his health but Jimmy has had hospital stays and operations lately, but has also come out of that alright, too. This song was written by the Cold Chisel drummer and guitarist, Steve Prestwich (deceased) about the war of a relationship break-up. For most of his career Jimmy has been known as a 'screamer'. He has softened his voice in later years.

John Farnham first performed When The War Is Over when he was lead singer of the Little River Band on their Playing To Win Tour 1985 . LRB recorded their version on LRB’s final LRB album that featured John Farnham the underrated No Reins 1986 . There’s a coincidence why LRB recorded this song . Cold Chisel’s songwriter drummer Steven Prestwich joined LRB straight after Cold Chisel originally broke up in 1984 . At this stage in the mid 80’s LRB was having money trouble and band was in the red financially . Only the songwriters was getting paid so Steven Prestwich offered the song up to be reimagined by LRB . LRB’s record label only released When The War Is Over as single to capitalise on John’s solo success with You’re The Voice by this time late 1986 LRB was in temporary hiatus with Steven Prestwich left the band plus other band members plus management deciding to follow and help John as a solo artist. John again in 1988 was asked by John’s solo recording label to re-record When The War Is Over again to be used as B side and bonus track on CD for the Age Of Reason album . John said in an interview about re-recording When The War Is Over again that he was reluctant that he was happy to leave the song within his LRB days , but his record company talked him around.
My very favorite song from John Farnham is "You're the Voice". You can see him perform it here (ruclips.net/video/6m2m_9Uijso/видео.html) alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The song has such a great message!
Re the hiss: you gotta remember that this was likely recorded off TV late in the VHS era, or at best its an early DVD which has been converted to a mid quality compressed RUclips video.

Sadly, John will not be singing again as he had cancer of his jaw, he needed to have his jaw rebuilt plus some tongue issues because of the cancer
Beautiful song till Jimmy came out...🥴😵😵💫🤯
