If you wanna put Junior’s performance here into perspective...go watch the original video after this. You could actually layer the two vocals and not tell the difference. 🏆🧡
I first met Jr when I was 16 , ...he predicted a number one hit ...I was with his cousins, "Glassy" , and Tony . ...I was in LONDON, ( Thornton heath ) ...I am 60 now living in NYC for OVER 30years...
FANTASTIC PERFORMER.. He still sounds GREAT! I watched his testimony of losing both his wife and daughter to MS, and my heart went out to him. SO SAD, but he doesn't give up. Keep pushing forward, Junior. You are a LIVING LEGEND!!!
1:55 He still got it! What a funky hit. He, like many other Black British artists are not given their dues for their artistic contributions to this country. And before I go, Mr Junior we need your voice, lift us out of this musical drought.
Yes, I recall reading an article in the New York Rocker back in the 1980s about how Black American artists were worshipped by Britons, but Afro-British performers were seldom embraced in the same way.
Oh this made my night! Last time I saw Junior was on top of the pops in the 80’s. Tonight I sang every word and stepped back in time. Thanks guys and huge love Junior! 💋 xx
Wow. He sounds good and has lots of energy. He's smart enough not to attempt what he can't handle vocally anymore so you can just enjoy him singing. Nice.
The reason it didn't last is his wife had MS. He chose to take care of her until she died instead of continuing his music career. Then their daughter contracted MS. He took care of her. She died in 2017.
just heard the new reggae version of this song with Junior and reggae great Luciano!! Glad to see Junior still doing his thang. I used to jam and party on this song back in the day.
0:58 "and mamma used to say, live your life" my brain heard "take your life" because i was expecting "take your time" this is one of those effects that trick your brains interpretation. lol
Brian Johnson wet brain? xD nah, i'm pretty sure it was the McGurk effect. lol check it out if you haven't. our brain can interpret things many different ways.
How is he not being asked to perform at EVERY music event on the planet? Still an outstanding voice, song is as amazing as ever, a great look and he's even got some dance moves.
this song is soooo true....back in HS when i used to listen to this and back then all i wanted to do was GROW UP....now i wish time would slow down....40 yrs has passed just like that!!...wow!!
This song was not disco. It never even fit that mold. This was funk but funk was generally derided as disco by the majority who didn't or couldn't understand funk. A Time Magazine critic even categorized it as some kind of new sound. It was so modern back then in early 1982 that the critic ridiculed the drum sound as it echos on some parts of the original song. The critic said that it sounded like some kind of strange sound being played inside a bathtub or bathroom.
His vocals and energy are still top notch and he totally made me smile after coming here from the original video.. first time enjoying thanks to" 94.7 the wave " thanks to those folks!!!
Where are the guitar harmonics on the start? One of the best songs from (in Brazil) 1982. I didn't know the guy was born in England... like Central Line, another british band sounding 100% american (I was not able to distinguish accents).
I have always loved Junior’s accent! I love to hear black people with British accents talk. Junior was a good artist! This was real music, back in the day! Please, bring those days back! Peace.
J'écoutais ce morceau sur la route de France au Maroc, mon frère conduisait et mettait ça,j'avais 16 ans j'en ai 49 aujourd'hui et j'aime toujours autant !👍
Germany: June '82.I served as a private and we where at the Luneburger heide and this was my topfavorite at that time! And still is.....................
Junior....this was my jam back in the day. Now, to hear and see a Live performance is a true treat. The band is on point and the backup singers are really tight. Thanks for this bit of R&B history. Junior is looking good and still has that stage persona....Live your life, indeed!
Love you Junior, your're looking good and still sounding great, I didn't know you are from a west Indies decent and living in Britain, I always thought you were from the states. Well anyway this is still one of my favorite jams!
I came back to houston in 83, and I was caught up in the Univ of Houston cougars basketball championship run. Phi Slama Jama. This song was hot on the radio then and sort of blended in with all the basketball hype. So whenever I hear this song I think about that basketball playoff run.
I'm just finding out that he's British... That is soo cool... I never realized it from listening to this song in the 80's, still one of my favorites.
If you wanna put Junior’s performance here into perspective...go watch the original video after this. You could actually layer the two vocals and not tell the difference. 🏆🧡
He came from a time music was done with pure talent not augmented with tech like it is today.
He's incredible and still grooving like back in the day.
THAT PART.
He had tragedy in his personal life with his wife and daughter both dying of multiple schlerosis😢.
This song is a classic❤
still sounds great live. them old schoolers keep they game strong
This song was the jam in the day and now that he is older...man, he slayed this performance. Amazing talent that deserves more credit
I first met Jr when I was 16 , ...he predicted a number one hit ...I was with his cousins, "Glassy" , and Tony . ...I was in LONDON, ( Thornton heath ) ...I am 60 now living in NYC for OVER 30years...
Sensacional.
Still the same Bro , still has It. Awesome!
saying for tha ages now hes for always dear mama my eyes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big tune
Mama used to say pretty good for his age!.
He is jamaican wow didn't know
He's British Jamaican meaning his parents are Jamaican but he was born in the UK.
As evidenced by that cutglass patois accent when he invited the audience to sing along at the start.
SUCESS
🌍❤🎶🎶
What other song will he play after this
Junior still has a great voice and he seems like a kind Soul as well. He kept himself in shape and has a wonderful onstage presence. Go Junior...!!!
Maravilloso quien no bailo este gran temazo?????❤️🇦🇷
His vocals still sound the same....love this.
No they dont.
Not quite
Brian Johnson Considering how much he’s aged in general, his range is still mostly intact. Many other artists lose their voice much sooner.
This song was back in 1982 i was born in 1982😊😊
Crazy. They're better
As a 80’s baby I remember and still love this song ❤
I loved this the first time around and it has aged like good wine. As has Mr Giscombe. What a legend and pioneer
FANTASTIC PERFORMER..
He still sounds GREAT! I watched his testimony of losing both his wife and daughter to MS, and my heart went out to him. SO SAD, but he doesn't give up. Keep pushing forward, Junior. You are a LIVING LEGEND!!!
Damn, I never knew that. I couldn't even imagine. Respect to him for pushing thru and still performing and sounding as great as ever!
Junior smashed it.... he still sounds awesome. Enjoyed it as much as Charlie Wilson when he was on the hootenanny
Sanj Sub, lol!
LOL I'm sorry, what was Charlie Wilson on? I know I'm 3 years late but, *whuet?! *
See kids the old guys still got it.
Fantastic, and mama is always right.
1:55 He still got it! What a funky hit. He, like many other Black British artists are not given their dues for their artistic contributions to this country. And before I go, Mr Junior we need your voice, lift us out of this musical drought.
Soooo true!!!
Yes, I recall reading an article in the New York Rocker back in the 1980s about how Black American artists were worshipped by Britons, but Afro-British performers were seldom embraced in the same way.
Wow I didn’t know the brother was from Britain.
Please, music these days is trash!!!!!!
YES LORD!!!!!!!!
Ayyyyeeee!! ❤❤❤❤ He vocals sounds fantastic!! The orchestra sounds lovely too!!
Junior is still at it! Yes sir! He still got moves too!
Ayy you here too
Oh this made my night! Last time I saw Junior was on top of the pops in the 80’s. Tonight I sang every word and stepped back in time. Thanks guys and huge love Junior! 💋 xx
Same! Happy New Year! xoxo
I wondered where he disappeared to like others
@@cherryb6238 Happy New Year hun xx
Cheers! xoxo
To put this in perspective: how older this song is and he’s singing live at older age now it’s nothing but pure TALENT.
this is a killer arrangment
For real
Excellent vocal, Excellent performer, Pure quality. Junior Giscombe.
I’m 50 yrs old and I remember when this came out . Whyz 1070 am radio station used to play this 📻
Incredible performance!
I'm in awe... his voice, still so youthful, he always had this teen touch in his voice... thanks for the memories Junior. Love ya! ❤
Its amazing how his voice sounds exactly the same as in the recording. This it what an actual singer is.
Junior now a senior but still sounding great! One of my all time favorite grooves which never gets old. The only thing missing is the clanging sounds.
Wow. He sounds good and has lots of energy. He's smart enough not to attempt what he can't handle vocally anymore so you can just enjoy him singing. Nice.
It's a shame his career didn't last he had a good voice, like where's Lamar now?
Very true
He was changed into a plastic ventriloquist dummy 🙌🙌🙌🙌🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃😷😷👨🍫🍫🍫🏪🍼🍼😀😀😀😀😀🐭
The reason it didn't last is his wife had MS. He chose to take care of her until she died instead of continuing his music career.
Then their daughter contracted MS. He took care of her. She died in 2017.
@@adc2327 Thats so sad! but shows that he truly has a good character
Was shocked at how I still remembered the words! I too stepped back in time. Still good. Happy new year.
I was shocked how I got up to bust some moves and I fell flat in my face 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀🏃🏃🏃🏃🏃🙌🙌😷😷🐭
Amazing to see he is still alive🎉Love this song 「Mama used to say」🎉Now September 2024🎉Very popular dance song in Roppongi Japan in 1982🎉
No lip singing & amazing energy for his age i applause
just heard the new reggae version of this song with Junior and reggae great Luciano!! Glad to see Junior still doing his thang. I used to jam and party on this song back in the day.
0:58 "and mamma used to say, live your life"
my brain heard "take your life" because i was expecting "take your time"
this is one of those effects that trick your brains interpretation. lol
...either that or you may have wet brain.
Brian Johnson wet brain? xD nah, i'm pretty sure it was the McGurk effect. lol check it out if you haven't.

@@DlcEnergy I can't read
Brian Johnson mkay. sorry to bother you.
How is he not being asked to perform at EVERY music event on the planet? Still an outstanding voice, song is as amazing as ever, a great look and he's even got some dance moves.
No fair. Nile does a bit of Rappers Delight halfway through Le Freak but Junior doesn’t rap a bit of Mama Who Da Man
Grande sucesso dos anos 80 a música pop dominava nas paradas de sucesso das rádios do mundo todo.
JUNIOR⭐🎊ICONO 80s...Amo!!
YYAAASSS JUNIOR!!! I love hearing Junior sing this song!!! He's a cutie...very handsome gentleman.
this song is soooo true....back in HS when i used to listen to this and back then all i wanted to do was GROW UP....now i wish time would slow down....40 yrs has passed just like that!!...wow!!

Such a talented vocalist in 1982 when he first appeared on the music scene & nothing has changed!.....absolute class!👍
This Song Grew Up And Aged Really Well! #Classic
This was good too see.
Of course he’s slaying it. It’s HIS song.
Junior was my Intro, to British Soul 🇺🇸. Thank, you!!! Later, Supported, Loose Ends, Soul II Soul, Sade... 📿 Your Benefits are still flowing
These miilenilals think they will be young forever ❤😍🎤🎤🎶🎶🤓🤓
He must've drank lots of wine throughout his life because as wine ages well so has he❤❤❤
I was 2 when this song was released but I remember in the ensuing years & it's locked in my psyche
one of the edition's highlights. And there weren't many this year.
How many sound the same as the record, and at his age!!!!
Amazing
Timeless disco record!! Brilliant to see him on the Hootenanny 👍🏼
It’s more of a funk/soul song. Disco was dead in 1982.
Soul, Not Disco, There is a difference in basic Style & Rhythm
Genio,grande hermoso tema❤
Don't fear the man that has practiced many kicks. Fear the man that has mastered one.
One hit wonder.
Simply AWESOME. All round. Wow
Canta igual que hace 37 años. Buena
No Cowbell WTH?
His vocals and energy are still top notch and he totally made me smile after coming here from the original video.. first time enjoying thanks to" 94.7 the wave " thanks to those folks!!!

J'écoutais ce morceau sur la route de France au Maroc, mon frère conduisait et mettait ça,j'avais 16 ans j'en ai 49 aujourd'hui et j'aime toujours autant !👍
Should now by all accounts be renamed Senior Giscombe. Joking aside, that was brilliant! 80s funk will never get old.
Mozza lives
2024, still rocking to this and still fortunate to have Mama still saying gems to me. 💎🫂🙏🏾

Lovin' this performance. Great arrangement. He did a reggae version of this song with Luciano that is 🔥
Wow….sounds FANTASTIC!!!!! The arrangement is on fire 🔥 Such a fan of this song ♥️
What an absolute f*cking tuneeee ❤😮🕺🏿🕺🏿🕺🏿🕺🏿🕺🏿
I came back to houston in 83, and I was caught up in the Univ of Houston cougars basketball championship run. Phi Slama Jama. This song was hot on the radio then and sort of blended in with all the basketball hype. So whenever I hear this song I think about that basketball playoff run.
Subliminal chime straight to the center of my cranium. Flashed back spacetime 1982 Virgo Lounge Germantown. 🙏
Hey!...what happened to the "Rich Percussions" on the original recording??!!!!..not fair! 😠
