Terrible motorcycling conditions! // Taking on The Struggle and Kirkstone Pass on the GSXS1000GT 🌧

- Hi Everyone,
This is pretty old footage back from April when I stayed at the lovely Forest Side Hotel in Grasmere.
After the lovely cozy night there, I decided whilst in the Lake District - I would explore on the Suzuki GSXS 1000GT.
My first stop was 'The Struggle' followed by the Kirkstone Pass... I NEED to venture back when it is dry!
Anyway, aside from the crappy quality (I hadn't updated my forward facing camera back then) - I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks everyone!!

Nice bike
A lovely bike, one of my favourites to ride!
You have to love the English summer, it is the best day of the year.
I love riding that rd , good vid
Good isn't it bezzer!
@@UsernameKate next time turn left at the Kirkstone inn , the views over Ulverston are immense
@@TheBez1965 Ullswater 🙄
Ulverston is South West Cumbria.
@@RawTopShot correct , I was just testing you 😜
😃👈🏻. My face the whole time watching this one. Rain, who cares, freezing cold, doesn’t matter, narrow slick rough roads with intimidating stone walls, child’s play. Oh and let’s throw in some hail, Bring it on! 💪🏼 What a susperstar!🌟10/10 Bosslady.
Haha the elements really said let's test her 🤣
Great looking bike to get the horn on...... twice as well 😁
🤣🤣
Kate you legend! It's this type of British weather that makes us the nation of bike riders we are. :>) btw if you are still poorly and can't post new vids, don't worry we'll sit it out together - Get better soon. :>)
Yea, still poorly but keeping the vlogs flowing at the moment due to pre filmed footage! Thanks for your kind words :)
That Suzuki is the first bike to cause pain in my want engine in ages, it looks gorgeous!
It is a very capable bike for sure!
That sat nav needs throwing in the bin Kate....Great riding and great vidio👍🏍
🤣🤣 bloody Google maps!
looks like a typical scottish summer. Nice Vlog 😀
🤣🤣🤣
The Lake District is special for me too with childhood memories. We used to stay at Low Ray campsite opposite Ambleside / WaterHead. You can pitch a tent right next to the Lake if you book ahead ! Used to row across the lake when I was little to get shells from the Shell Shop :)
Thats too sweet 😫🥺❤️
Wet wet kirkstone pass is great on a sunny day Kate werebyiu turned right at the top of the struggle you should’ve turned left you missed half of the pass which I think is the best side but it’s there for your next visit girl good show 😍👍🤣
Haha I believe so! Sat Nav played me like a fiddle 🤣
I think you have started a trend, Kate. “3-2-1, hi ya”. Very Ninja Warrior, I’ll be using the same technique lifting my bike off its stand.
Just don't topple over the other side by being too enthusiastic 🤣
Great vlog, crap conditions. Must admit, I do like the look of that bike!
Standard for up narthhhh Mike!!
Used to cycle it every year after already covering 75miles up every pass in the lakes. Thankfully I was on the motorcycle last time I went up it..
I don't think that I could ever get bored of visiting the Lake District.
I was up at the Kirkstone Pass Inn a few weeks ago & the weather was ok.
I usually head north from there and go by Ullswater before heading back to Wakefield.
This time I decided to head down The Struggle, then onto the Wrynose Pass before heading home & enjoyed every minute.
Thanks for another Fab video , I wouldn't have attempted that right-hander at the top of the hill...that's the Struggley bit. 😀👏
That right hander is awful! Glad I tackled it though! Thought I'd be buggered on my GS with a leg dangle 🤣 turns out the better roads were left anyway! Lol
Absolutely loved it! Thank you!
😁🙌🏼
3, 2, 1 hi ya!! Brilliant lol keep up the good work.
Thanks! 🤣
Hardcore biker Kate ! Definitely ventured where others feared to go on that day 👍
That rain ventured where other people fear to go aswell! 🤣
You're a very experienced rider and it shows in the very capable way you handled the bike in the wet, hailing and greasy conditions. Well done.
PS I hope you're 100% better very soon and Labyrinthitis/Meniere's Disease is gone from your life. Take care.
Hey Jeff,
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. It's made my night :) I really hope I feel better soon because I'm just not seeing any improvement and I'm getting restless! :(
@@UsernameKate Hey, Kate, my sister's partner suffers from the same illness. He found diet changes helped a bit. He went from literally crawling to having a new lease on life by going not quite vegan but semi-vegetarian.
I'm currently watching you and Ruby talking about the RS and RRRRRR. I almost choked on my Milo twice: 1)" I'm a naked girl..." 2) I'm getting on now... I'm 30 now..." 😂 There's nothing quite like listening to two people talking knowledgeably about bikes... Great quality video too. I've been meaning to ask how you seamlessly chop from one to another.
Oooh, #Usernamedad is talking how you started on bikes. It's obviously in your DNA. Great Q&A! I used to slobber over the John Player Norton, which was a beauty.
Bad weather makes for great scenery and pictures - especially in that area. Would love to ride it someday.
it's pretty fun in the snow on a 230kg bike with no rider assistance technology 😂👍
@@RawTopShot I bet that would make it extra exciting!
Awesome! Always good to see you out having fun Kate! Nice new intro too! Well done! TCRS!
😊😊😊
Your riding skills in the wet are impressive Kate.
Back in the UK in the 80's I rode my CB550K4 Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere, Rain Hail Sleet or Snow Frost😳... How did I do it? Stopped riding 1985.. long interesting story for another time.
Fastforward Western Australia. Started riding Nov 2021... SV650... now GSX-S1000F.
Mainly weekend riding. WA's weather is very "Mediterranean, Southern Californian" dry heat 🌞 about 8 mths of 12.
The downpours here are brutal huge raindrops.. will flood a road in seconds.
So I am a chicken when it comes to the wet... anyway keep up the the great vids... love watching them.
PS:.. OMG!.. how could I forget?🙄 How is the Labyrinthitis? The other half gets virtigo from time to time its quite debilitating. Especially for bikers.
Hope it gets sorted and your're back on the road soon.. chin up🙂
I did the Kirkstone Pass aged 15, on a bicycle with full camping gear - THAT was definitely a STRUGGLE!!! Glorious on the way down though and it was quite sunny that week.
Bloody hell, that sounds like a right effort!
Snap I did the same at 15, it might of been at the same time as it was red hot when we did it. Couldn’t do it now 🫤
@@UsernameKate Yeah, we trained for it by cycling from Warrington to Chorley and then back over Winter Hill / Rivington every weekend for a couple of months. And I was only 14 then. 😂
Hey, Kate. Its nice to see what UK like in your vlog. Its looks organize but so cold & super gloomy. Coming from a tropical place, I feel sad with that kind of weather. What more in the coastal part of your country.
Anyway, I like your info though & way you made feel when your ride. I like that more & more women are really into bikes nowadays. 👊✊
Hey! Yes, I know what you mean, I feel sad with this weather too!! It always rains in my part of the world (except for maybe a week long heatwave where everyone complains its too hot haha!)
Kate you have showed us generally how to ride safe in all conditions low revs mirror checks etc ya dad trained you well my grandad did ex sas
Thanks Matt! 😊
Hope you and the your doctors get on top of things and Mike is a good nurse.
Me too Bill, it's murder not being able to ride yet. Mike's being great :)
You rode the route the best way because going up The Struggle is a lot easier than going down it, especially in the wet. I'll be there in a few weeks coz my new Hyper has arrived six months early, so I'm stoked to be able to ride again. Stay safe.
You've got a new HYPER! the jealousy is real!
@@UsernameKate Yeah it's the RVE (I told you on Twitter that it was a six month waiting list), but Ducati Preston got hold of one for me. Still, someone with a GS shouldn't be jealous coz you have a fantastic bike, and I nearly bought one instead of the Hyper after watching your vlogs.
@@NeonLuvBar oh that was you! My memory is shocking. Oh, I love my GS don't get it wrong... the hyper is just spicy 🌶 🤣
Perfect weather for a lighter sportstourer with so much torque like that one to shine on that pass (if sun doesn't want 2 do that 4 u). Would prefer that instead a fatty tourer or long legged ADV.
I love those roads! but in summer you have to keep an eye out for sightseers stopping or slowing to a crawl just around blind bends to take in the view... Can't really blame them, it's stunning.
I can imagine! Have to go either super early or for a nice evening blast 😊
Weather aside, it's a pass I want to ride on my Tiger one of these days! Thanks for sharing Kate!!
Weather is "gash"....that's a new one for me 🤪😂. It was pretty crappy, I would have been swearing and cursing the weather but you just seemed to take it in your stride and kept your cool.....at least you did on the video
Haha its weirdly therapeutic to ride in the rain! 😄
@@UsernameKate if it rains while I'm out on the bike it doesn't really bother me too much, I would be annoyed at first but as you say it is quite nice at times. But I wouldn't get on the bike at home in the rain and go for a ride
I live down the road in kendal from the pass and that sat nav needs shooting the pub was at the top and if it had taken you left the road is spot on. the way it took you back its as ruff as your better going up the struggle as you did becouse it was going to take you the way you came down .left at the top would take you through to pooley bridge a brilliant road
Ohhh I'll definitely turn left when I'm next up there! Hopefully in better weather conditions!
Great vlog Kate as always get well soon looking forward to seeing in your leathers and swanky helmet and dark visor I love it when you slam your visor soon looking forward to seeing your California superbike school vlog soon next lots of love from your friend in st Helens Merseyside..☺️
Top video crocodile. Will have to remember The Struggle the next time I'm in Cumbria, hopefully in good weather.
Thanks Alligator! Yea, its defo a fun ride - just hope the weather will be kind to you.
@@UsernameKate if it rains I get wet. Still a ride out.
Hi Kate, well ridden in not good conditions, stay safe🥰
Hi Derek! Thanks, I appreciate that :)
what a shame 😢 with the rain here it's 36 degrees and with humidity it's great 👌 the Suzuki Kate
Chema, that is crazy! haha
Ok 👌👍 Kate
Fantastic scenery, haven't been up there for so long but brought it all back. Thank you for posting this Kate really appreciate it. 👍😎😎😎
No worries Iain! Anytime! 😁
well done kate
Thanks Allan!
Hi Kate exactly the same weather as I had when I done mind it rained all the time when I was up there but then again it is the Lake District and it wet 👍👍👍🙏
Always bloody wet up there LOL
@@UsernameKate definitely is 👍🙏🙏🙏
I’ve driven the Kirkstone
I’ve walked the Kirkstone
I’ve run the Kirkstone
I’ve cycled the Kirkstone
I’ve never ridden the motorbike on the Kirkstone. Will do one day 😁
You did well. I hate wet roads. To much diesel spills for me…always nervous . Thanks for a nice vid..stay safe Kate.
Yea, it's never ideal!
Love the views Kate and my type of weather 🤪🤪😎, ref pressing the horn button at the wrong time , I’ve always fixed a soundbomb horn on all my bikes ( 120 decibels) never toot in town people turn round then turn into lamppost 😂😂, I used to live near Dover and when I used it , car drivers looked for a lorry, tah dah, while they where looking quick overtake hee hee , ps great vlog again 👍👍👍
Why Tony, are you a Duck?! LOL and thank you :)
Just done this on my 125, was a blast.... And sunny lol
Jealous haha
Glad you had a cool ride over the pass.
Keep your chin up and I hope you are getting better as each day passes.
Take care as always Kate.
Hey Mike, thanks for caring. No improvements today. Just gotta keep plodding on.
A beautiful area, rode around that place a while back and walked up the struggle to climb red screes from Ambleside, the views (weather permitting) are fantastic, thanks for the vid Kate and keep up the good work!
Thanks Dean!!! 😊
Not the nicest weather to do that pass, but already being their it would have been rude not to, and that Suzuki sounded lovely compared to the Triumph. Thank you...
Haha, I couldn't turn it down!
Nice vlog, definitely an area to put on the bucket list. The great British weather just makes it more memorable😂. One of the main attractions of an adventure versus touring bike are the hand guards😁
Thank you, and YES! My bloody hands were FREEZING :(
Don't forget your bucket.
Another great vlog Kate. Entering the bike at 15:40 like a ninja🤣 the things you do to put out your vlogs for your subscribers it’s insane. Sorry for your shitty weather…. At that time. Weather is better now, hope you can enjoy it. Big thumbs up👍👍🇳🇱
A ninja haha! And thanks! :)
Beautiful countryside for sure. I was in Lake District a few years ago and it is very beautiful. Awesome video, brought back wonderful memories. Best!
Glad you enjoyed it, even with the terrible filming quality!
@@UsernameKate I hope you are feeling much better! Best!
What lovely roads ( shit weather) why would you ride fast n miss the lovely hailstone views 🤣 . May be go in better weather next time. Great vlog, bike looks 👌 take care stay safe 🏍 👍 🏍👍🏍👍🏍👍
Haha hailstone views made the trip complete haha
That road you came up, the struggle actually brought you out sort of half way up the pass, which is maybe why it seemed short, shame about the weather, maybe next time itll be better haha :D
Haha I believe so! An excuse to return I think 😈
I'm glad you made the effort in the rain, I enjoyed it! I like the bike and considering it as a replacement for my 2009 BMW R1200R but the lack of heated grips may be a game changer!
Yes! If I had this bike, first thing I'd do is stick some oxford heated grips on 100%!!
If the weather is poor you don't have to feel guilty about riding slow, just take in the scenery. My cardo never listens to me.. Mind of its own 😂
Not only Cardo... Sena too has selective hearing, like my other half😂
Wasn't much scenery to take in that day with the dismal mist 🤣
I thought you would go left at the pub junction and go down the kirkstone pass and on to Patterdale and then Glenridding beside Lake Ullswater; but you went right towards Windermere.
Bloody Sat Nav! I don't know the Lakes well 🤣
The rain may suck but it prevents forest fires, and that's what the whole Planet needs right now.
Thank you for your video(s), 🙏 they make me visit the gorgeous landcapes of the UK for free.
(PS: And don't forget to bring the nasty bacteriums down)
Glad you liked the video Samir - and yes, the rain makes you appreciate the good weather so much more too!
@@UsernameKate It's been practically 3 weeks since you catch that...thing .(let's keep polite)
I read somewhere, that there were no signs of improvement during that period until the symptoms simply vanished overnight, as if by magic.
So, how are you doing, Kate ?
The Racer Gloves Tour FHH are very waterproof and dexterous. It's because they have thin palms designed for heated grips. If you have heated grips they're great. I imagine you'd freeze if you didn't.
No heated grips on this :(
Bike sounds good!
My angel please take care of yourself ❤️
I try 👼
@@UsernameKate I wish you visit north of Pakistan ❤️ and I will take you on trip
Not the best day to go over the pass. Still in bad weather, the views are amazing
Definitely not Nigel!
I went up last week and did wynrose hard knott and honnister, I didn’t manage to squeeze kirkstone in. (Although I did it the week before in the car)
Love all those passes!
Id recommend installing some hand guards it deflects some of the windchill from your fingers
It's a demo bike so I didnt have that choice unfortunately :(
Nice 1 Kate. Shame about the weather.
The weather was definitely relentless that day haha
I don't ride well in the wet. Which isn't good since Seattle is at least as wet as the UK.
Can you do a video on bike security..like datatool stealth vs biketrac. A comparison of the above with any others on the market and which is best for insurance etc. Many thanks.
Very impressive ride Kate! I will say that it makes me nervous to watch you periodicaly drift out of your lane when approaching curves. Be careful!
Never drifting, always calculated 😄
@@UsernameKate It's actually safer as you get a better view ahead. :>)
@@DatOldeBiker always looking as far as possible.
Done it many times but from the other end
Just to say I rode from Leeds to burry port in South Wales to and it rain for about 100 miles lol whole trip was 222 miles on my 900 street twin to my daughters still drying out lol love vid it reminded of my trip to day and still smiling even though it was raining any tips on bike gear that does not let water in my suite is halvarssons one its two years old now
I personally swear by my Oxford Mondial Textile Suit. Available for men too. It has NEVER let me down and I've had it for 4 years :)
I will look into the suite cheers Kate
Lake District is a great area ive been many times but never on a bike. Weather gods could of been a nicer to you
Weather Gods are rarely kind to me Sharpey! Haha
Your a star! Lol 😂
🤣🤣🤣
You should have ended up at Glenridding on ulswater. 🤣. Not back to Bowness.
Followed Sat Nav! 🤣
Hope you feeling better! I rode up to Wales in the 38c heat. Phew! Was amazing but mic was terrible and the gopro was angled wrong plus I needed it in highest settings. (Got through three batts and took me 6hrs or so..set off at 7am arrived 3 pm!!! Lucky a Welsh couple had some beers next to me)
Shame as I recorded 7hrs and my first off roading on my 125 haha.
Still I dodged getting soaked on the way back and a lady pulled out in front of me. I avoided a collision by my reactions. So in one week a tree and a poss serious injury/death😜
Life is never boring with you at least :)
@@UsernameKate Trust me passing my test and quiet country lanes I'll settle for.
Well maybe some off roading. That is amazingly fun but was also very scary as was unintended. (I thought have scrambler tyres why not, was a bit annoyed didnt come out on film was so wild and pretty).
Was near the Elan Valley you should go with the fella when you better👍. Rhayader. (Just on the Shropshire/Wales border theres a smoke house...ribs n stuff🍖)
Love this bike. If I was to get a sport tourer I would get this or the Kawasaki 1000sx 😊
I'm yet to try the Z1000SX! I think I need to!
@@UsernameKate I'm just not a fan of Adventure Bikes, for me its got to be a Sports Tourer 😁
haha...hey cardo volume down....haha...i thought i was hearing another voice, thought i had something else running on youtube lol
🤣🤣🤣
You didn't go over kirkstone pass. When you got to the top of the struggle you should have turned left towards Keswick.
You only know what you know. And you don't know what you don't know 🤣
Still a good effort getting up the struggle, wait till you get a nice sunny day during the week then head back to Windermere then go to the Kirkstone pass inn for a brew or dinner then head to Keswick, well worth it, then head to honister pass past the slate mine, brilliant roads, cracking videos by the way.
When did you realise that it wasn't actually Kirkstone Pass that you were on? 🤣. It should have been a left at the Kirkstone Inn! What are you like! 🤔.
Anyroad get well soon Kate. 🤕 👍.
Wait, did I not end up doing the Kirkstone pass? I thought I at least ended up there haha even if it was via the struggle lol
Did you f××k! Lol. Kirkstone ends up at ullswater! Basically you went halfway up, and then back down a different way! Not actually over the pass. Lol.
@@UsernameKate I would say (being local) the kirkstone pass ends at the pub on top and starts at Patterdale at the bottom.
Well now you've got a good excuse to return. 😂👍
it was short because you missed more than half of it, the stretch from Kirkstone Inn to Ulswater
Nav clearly lied to me! 🤣
Would have been fun if them roads where a bit dry, lol.
Sooo much fun!
Why didn't I take my test back in 1976 on my brand new Kawasaki KH250 triple when it was legal to ride on L plates, now I have got to do CBT,theory test etc etc,am a born again biker currently riding 125cc.😢
Oh John, it's a bloody nightmare to pass nowadays! But it will be soooo worth it. Just persevere with it and you won't regret it!
@@UsernameKate thanks👍
That would of been good if the weather wasn't so gash 😂😂 a word only us true mancunians use haha
Bloody GASH
@@UsernameKate haha yeah, love it
Ah sat nav? It must be correct then!Lol 🤔. Take a look at Google earth, and check out where you should have ridden. I suppose you put Kirkstone Pass in your sat nav? Which is correct I suppose but, not the actual destination that you wanted. A bit like riding to the top of Hardnot, then turning round. You haven't actually ridden it. 😐.
Yes I'm gathering that from the comments, though I was blissfully unaware at the time 🤣
You could move to Florida
I could NEVER leave Jasper behind :)
User name Kate let me know how it is I'm thinking of doing the lake District it's just the distance on motorways don't like them prefer the Twisties (•‿•)
Oh you need to!
@@UsernameKate cool will do
Sports tourer without heated grips makes no sense.
I would be inclined to agree 😫
