The funny part is for a lot of people baby’s do provide some sort of “saving”, definitely not financially, but metaphorically. Had my first kid a month before I turned 19, he gave me the courage to grow tf up and get my life together, now I have my own place, my kids get their own room, and baby number three is on the way. Debbie is just a perfect example of an awful human doing awful things, hence why she’s the character everyone hates the most. She could’ve had a character arc for the better after having a baby, but with the way her character was meant to be written out, she’s just meant to keep getting worse and worse. It’s a good example of the difference between making the best out of the worst situation Vs choosing to be complacent in the bad situation.

If you need a baby to give you a wake up call to get your life together, 9 times out of 10 you're not ready for a kid. Except what happens most of the time is it just makes their problems worse because babies aren't some kind of magic formula
My mum did the same! I grew up in the Motel 6 pools, would make friends with kids on vacation and never see em again. It wasn't too bad compared to what it could've been.

Like in my family, this of the first thing that is discussed when we move in with each other, we were taught to fend for ourselves cause no one is going to hold out hands to help us (said to me by my own father) my siblings and I didnt adopte this mindset luckily but we still hold the importance of self reliance, heck my older brother straight out told me to get a job to help pay rent or he'll check me out of the apartment we shared only a month after leaving my parents house

I hate when people say Fiona is awful. She’s been raising these kids (each with their own needs and issues) since she was in single digits herself. She had to give up a track scholarship and a chance to go to college and have her own life to hustle and raise all of these kids. She did it in poverty and surrounded by chaos and addicted and mentally ill parents trying to sabotage her. She told Debbie she’s been raising kids her entire life and she wouldn’t help her with hers if she chose to keep it. Also keep in mind, Debbie got pregnant on purpose. my friend has only ever watched the UK version of this show and i asked her if they made debbie this terrible in the later seasons and she went "... what? no. debbie is like the sweetest" and i just sat with that for awhile bc that means the US writers decided to turn her into the worst person imaginable with literally no reason from the source material to do so 😂
The US has only ever followed the UK for the first season. By S2 or 3 of the US version, they started to dotheir own thing. Frankly, I liked that Debbie ended the way she did in the US version. As a kid she was neglected and nobody cared. Even Fiona couldn't give a damn about her. When Debbie was navigating young adulthood, never had good role models or people to guide her. And people still wonder why Debbie ended up being so screwed up? You act like Fiona isn't equally as toxic. Also, Fiona in the UK version leaves the show early on. The UK version never focused on just the Gallaghers like the US did.
This was a wake up call for her kids/siblings. They were so used to fiona being there anchor for support and stability which is alot compared to the chaotic bankrupt situation they were living in everyday.. But they forgot that fiona is not only revolved around them and can't keep depending on even though she did contribute some problems to them around this season but that they are adults and need to start acting like it more. Times have changed so I proud of fiona finally sharing some of the responsibilities to her family 😊
Carl, Liam, and Ian were all chill though. Yeah, Ian got mad over the church thing, but other than that, they are good. Lip was dickriding his gf after she had a baby and let's not forget about Xan how much attention Lip gave to her than Liam.

The blatant fact is that when you reach adulthood, that means having adulthood responsibility. Fiona shouldn't have ever been left to pay all bills for a household this big. And when they reached adulthood, she had every right to charge rent. Especially since 300 a month is literally a better price than any apartment.
By the end of Emmy's run, they made Fiona into a train wreck so you wouldnt miss her so much, but she was still one of the best characters. Debbie was consistently one of the worst characters throughout the entire show's run.

I loved this scene. Fiona told Debbie straight up what would happen if she decided to keep the baby at such a young age, Debbie said she didn’t care. Then when reality hit she ended up eating her words
I hate when people say Fiona is awful. She’s been raising these kids (each with their own needs and issues) since she was in single digits herself. She had to give up a track scholarship and a chance to go to college and have her own life to hustle and raise all of these kids. She did it in poverty and surrounded by chaos and addicted and mentally ill parents trying to sabotage her.
She told Debbie she’s been raising kids her entire life and she wouldn’t help her with hers if she chose to keep it. Also keep in mind, Debbie got pregnant on purpose.

my friend has only ever watched the UK version of this show and i asked her if they made debbie this terrible in the later seasons and she went "... what? no. debbie is like the sweetest" and i just sat with that for awhile bc that means the US writers decided to turn her into the worst person imaginable with literally no reason from the source material to do so 😂
The US has only ever followed the UK for the first season. By S2 or 3 of the US version, they started to dotheir own thing. Frankly, I liked that Debbie ended the way she did in the US version. As a kid she was neglected and nobody cared. Even Fiona couldn't give a damn about her. When Debbie was navigating young adulthood, never had good role models or people to guide her. And people still wonder why Debbie ended up being so screwed up? You act like Fiona isn't equally as toxic. Also, Fiona in the UK version leaves the show early on. The UK version never focused on just the Gallaghers like the US did.
They all held Fiona to the standard of a mom even though she was their sister and none of this was her responsibility.

This was a wake up call for her kids/siblings. They were so used to fiona being there anchor for support and stability which is alot compared to the chaotic bankrupt situation they were living in everyday.. But they forgot that fiona is not only revolved around them and can't keep depending on even though she did contribute some problems to them around this season but that they are adults and need to start acting like it more. Times have changed so I proud of fiona finally sharing some of the responsibilities to her family 😊
