Fantastic to see you singing up a storm on a great song. Keep doing it all mate. You got a fan here...good music is good music. Every other argument is redundant. :)
I know exactly what you mean. I'm a musician myself and I'm in it for the music. Listening to different genres of music expands you're knowledge as a musician. And to those that say that this is "generic" music, I'd have to disagree.
First and foremost, Justin has not sold out. He has always written songs like this i.e. Something about Angels. Most people are only aware of his solo music via Le Bleu. He had a few albums before then. He has also stated that he will continue to make that style of music i.e. "Crown" and "Untilted Project."
I was always taught that in dealing with a "post" genre (especially Post-modernism) that the genre itself is a continuum. At each of the end of the continuum is a a defining work. The right side has the epitome of the genre and the left has something that resembles it. Godspeed and Explosions would be on the right side. This would be on the extreme left. But that is just my opinion and I respect yours. and BlackWaltz thanks for the new band. I have never heard of God is an astronaut.
Ah your right that got a bit jumbled when I typed it. I'm just saying that he's just doing what he's always been doing. Creating music, He'll still play acoustic. It's not a direction, not a step up, down, backwards, forwards. You're perfectly welcome to dislike it. honestly, I don't like it. I prefer his acoustic songs. The problem with your reasoning is you think it's a business decision. When really it's just him wanting to make music he enjoys. Which may very well be The Calling.
Because while he is great at all the tapping stuff that he does, from what I've seen the artists that truly make the money are those that play mainstream music that appeals to a wide audience. And you can't blame anyone for trying to make enough to make a living.
obviously, neither godspeed nor yndi halda nor explosions in the sky nor mono nor god is an astronaut sound the same to each other, yet they are still definatly post rock. minus the bear are quite obviously an indie rock band with experimental tendencies. this, is pop rock. straight up.
i dindt know that he did anything other than his FUCKING AMAZING acoustic stuff. i don't listen to this kind of music, but it sounds good from here. the drummer in this is pretty good
well if its a cinversation of trade offs the I would have to chime in and overstate what would seem to be the more obvious. Justin isn't know for his vocal range, even if he's known on some degree as a song writer of sorts, don't get me wrong he has a great voice for the Apologies project but if there is a trade off, it would be vocally.
i really like his voice, which is weird, because he is so much better at guitar than he is at singing. But 'Beauty Bar' is like, the best. His singing sounds great on this.
Not really a step, I think this was always his music. His other playing just made him popular. So it's not a direction, you just places your own version of him onto him. Not his problem that you misinterpreted him. :P
Well considering him and the bassist in this band have been writing these songs since he was 16. I still somehow doubt it. Also you might note he isn't making all that much money from this music. I think he'd make more from his acoustic stuff as that's where his largest fan base is. XD
Its funny, usually there's a trade-off in peoples' skill sets where they excel at one or two things and are average at others... I guess that doesn't apply here.
Secondly, this is not pop. If you are familiar with bands such as Minus the Bear, you would understand that this is Post Rock. Brushing off dead elements from pop music and fusing them with new life, different voicings, and crazy sounds. You take the main elements of rock and you tweak and experiment until you have something amazing like this. Before you knock his "new" sound, understand what he is trying to do.
That's not entirely true. His band lyrics are pretty straight-forward, but some of the lyrics for his solo tracks are great. Nonetheless, I've always really liked his band stuff. He puts together a pretty good set of Pop Rock tunes on his band album (and one Post-Rock track which always feels out of place), and hey, if that's what he wants to play, I'm just happy he keeps making music. And, I guess it makes me a horrible person, but I hate Kaki King. She's rather bores me.
Send me a link so i can hear you. I say get off him. Everyone has to make a living somehow. Do you know his life circumstance? Maybe he had to "sell out" because of some horrific life circumstance. You judge motive without knowing all of the facts.
That's like a music video by itself! Beautiful - that's what making music is all about!
absolutely freakin beautiful. i love the new version. it adds so much life.
This is the best version of Titanic I have heard yet. Fantastic! I like Justin's outfit too, hehe.

such a great tune!!
awesome vid..its about time :P! Brilliant song!!! ;D Keep em comin!
Totally agree with you and that one dude. We've heard this sort of thing before.

Pretty good song. Sounds good to me. Better than a lot of stuff going on radio these days.

i like it. But i like his tapping on the acoustics too. hes just good at everything he does.

No, it's awesome. Something that 99% of music these days is lacking.

I've seen this game before. In that case. Previous comment myself.
over and out.
I think we've created an infinite loop. >.>
I meant coromoro send a link so I can hear him.
Hey im from Costa Rica and im tired of looking musid of JK.. Someone with this incredible music?? Huge fan!!!
Nadir is the drummer and he's also writing an advanced physics text book, hehe
Justin King is amazing. you should hear his song called phunkdidfied

Godspeed is just one post rock band. I forgot every single band under one genre has to sound EXACTLY the same.

Criticizing this guy's music is like telling Leonardo Da Vinci he used the wrong shade of brown. He is an absolutely amazing artist!!!!!
anybody have the tabs for this

Correction: Who you want him to be. :P

itunes
I like his singing better on Le Bleu. Acoustic guitar and his voice complement better in my opinion.

ummm....lots of good bassists use picks. It's a shame you don't know that
isn't this called "BAILING the Titanic"? hehee

regardless of if he sold out or whatever, the song is banal.
not really my cup o' tea, very generic. The acoustic was unique, thats what made it interesting.
hes just an amazing guitar player, why does he have to write such flat songs like this?WHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY????
Send me a link so i can hear you. I say get off him. Everyone has to make a living somehow. Do you know his life circumstance? Maybe he had to "sell out" because of some horrific life circumstance. You judge motive without knowing all of the facts.
Sigh* Why do the greats sell-out?
His lyrics are basic and uninspired. His guitar playing is ethereal. You take your pick.
