- Tricia Nixon’s tour of the White House was broadcast as a segment of the CBS news magazine “60 Minutes” on May 26, 1970. She guided reporter Harry Reasoner through the family living quarters and other rooms and halls of the White House not usually open to the public.
Ms. Nixon told Reasoner that at a recent dinner in what was now the family dining room, guest Alice Roosevelt Longworth (daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt) suddenly exclaimed: “Why, this is where I had my appendix taken out!” The space had been a guest bedroom for much of the history of the White House until First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy converted it into a second floor private dining room in 1962.

You can tell this was 50 years ago. The reporters are so articulate, well-spoken and polite. Tricia is so poised, well-informed and such a great hostess. It’s sad that we don’t have don’t have many people like this in our country anymore
agreed. standards have dropped among many people. for those of us who refuse to behave in a less dignified manner, its difficult to observe and live with.
As much as I am a Jackie Kennedy fan, I think Trisha Nixon did a more enthusiastic tour of that part of the White House
not at all polite but very underhanded and quite sarcastic, you can tell they had it in for her as a way of demeaning her father very apparent as to how they dismissed her creditability and even her sense of being genuine

Tricia did a wonderful job. This spared Pat Nixon who appeared to be shy and reserved.
Pat wasn’t as comfortable in the spotlight, but she performed her public role with grace and dignity always. By all accounts, she was a warm and caring lady, and much more intelligent and savvy than she was given credit for during her lifetime.
Her hairstyle is awesome.

I was 7 years old when this aired and Tricia and Julie Nixon were definitely role models for me and my friends. This interview is a wonderful example of why we admired Tricia - she is lovely and gracious. I still remember her wedding in the rose garden in 1971. It was so romantic and beautiful! And they turned off the TV cameras during the actual vows to keep it private. I was really struck by that as being the proper thing to do.

I remember that day. She was stunning and so sweet. I was married in 1972 so I was extremely interested in her wedding and her dress and the bridesmaid dresses. We have definitely deteriorated as a society in many ways. The corporate media is no exception. They are absolutely disgusting.

According to the calendar given at the beginning of this video, the actual interview with Tricia Nixon was recorded Saturday morning, April 25, 1970. This aired May 24, 1970. Tricia was 24 years old, and this was just over one year before her famous wedding. This was also one week after Apollo 13 had returned, and just over a week before the Kent State massacre.
She spoke in such a thoughtful, genuine, and polished way. I would have been 5 years old at the time this was made. I’m not sure whether I remember people speaking this way, but it sure seems refreshing compared to today’s standards! I miss this era! I guess I was fortunate to have lived then, albeit being just a little one.

Spectacular Wedding.
What a National Treasure. This is our only chance to see the magnificent rooms that Mrs. Kennedy decorated. The Yellow Oval room is exactly like she left it. The Family Dining Room is exactly as Mrs. Kennedy decorated it. It is a shame that these interiors are constantly changed and no longer reflect this elegance. Tricia is absolutely adorable. This is when our country still had class. Look at her hairstyle and dress.

I have been waiting for the Nixon Foundation/Library to post this video from the archives! Thank you so much for allowing the public to enjoy this program once again. The 60 minutes piece gives a small peak to the great work of First Lady Pat Nixon in the White House and although Tricia did a great job, I wish Mrs. Nixon would have given her personal touch and commentary to the tour. I love to see how she made the White House a home for the Nixon family. She was a tremendous and strong woman.

Mrs. Nixon's decorator in 1969 was New York based Sarah Jackson Doyle, who helped the First Lady decorate the private quarters of the White House as well as the Nixon Oval Office.
What a fantastic interview. Young Tricia, whose age we'll always know from her father's "Fund Speech" in 1952, is so articulate, poised, knowledgeable, pretty, and respectful. Surprisingly, she takes after her father who's not the handsomest guy. This is a unique incite into the private life of a President's family. The Nixon Family stayed close throughout.

Such a poised and elegant young lady. When manners mattered. I heard when Jackie Onassis visited the WH privately once she praised the Nixon girls and hoped Caroline would grow up to be so poised.

13:25 This room was the Prince of Wales Room bedroom that Theodore Roosevelt's daughter had her appendix out in. It also is where President Abraham Lincoln was autopsied & embalmed in after his assassination in Ford's Theater. Alsp Willie Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's son died in this room in 1862 when it was a bedroom.

At 2:55 they mention Rembrandt Peale. Research reveals he was an American painter from southeastern Pennsylvania who actually met George Washington as a child. His father was William Peale, also a painter, and introduced his son to Washington before he was the president. The painting Tricia Nixon is talking about looks like it was a rendering of Washington as General of the Army in the late-1770s. Rembrandt Peale painted a picture of an aging 63-year-old President Washington in 1795 when he was only 17 years old that was said to make Washington look a little older than he actually was.

Tricia appeared well-rehearsed; not at all spontaneous. If they had asked her a question she hadn't prepared for, her head might have popped off.
If they are leaving in the USA they must be thinking how Trump's DAUGTHER and Sons must be feeling. A lot of shame? In Trump's family there is a lot of guilty children's. Not on Richard Nixon's. Daughters they never did any thing wrong.

Young and beautiful and today she's an old lady who in theory going by her parents and average longevity has about 5 years left.
