The best aspect about you two is how down to earth you both are, and I just hope that you stay that way. You have a very nice and strong yacht that many others would die for, and whilst seeing all the flash and fancy boats is fine, the better they are the more they cost to buy and maintain. Keep doing what you are great at.
I think you better learn Dutch because the best boat builders in the world live in the Netherlands. Greetings from Roosendaal - The Netherlands Hans.😂👍👍👍🍀
☺️ we were waiting for the hurricane season to finish in the Caribbean to be able to sail from Brazil to the Caribbean. Next week’s video we are gonna show more preparations on the boat 😁
Great episode. I know all of you and have been subscribed to all of these channels for years. It is great fun when guys meet up as a group and see how well you all click together because you are all so passionate about the sailing lifestyle and it just comes out like the sun shooting waves of light on a cloudy day.
Exciting to see every stage of boats being built. Fascinating to me. You kids have JUST as good a boat however and it's paid for. All is not gold that glitters, remember that. Love you two, I watch from the Philippines.
Stuff that dreams are made of - well, getting ideas for the next refit of Odd, and then maybe the next boat. Great job of window shopping aluminum boats! :¬) Webhead USA
Wonderful episode with the surprise visit to the place we had our bicycle tour vacation last summer. (Also the homeland from which my grandparents migrated as teen aged youngsters). I never knew they were building such beautiful boats there. Thanks for the great episode!!!
I have a trip upcoming to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and I've been trying to remember my high school German, but without much success. As a result, I've been looking at on-line language classes and was trying to decide which one to purchase when I watched this week's video and saw your sponsorship by Babble. If they're willing to sponsor you, then I'm willing to make them my language course of choice! I signed up for a 3-month subscription just a little while ago and hopefully, I'll be able to converse in German when my friend and I arrive in Munich later this year!
I signed up to Babbel to relearn my French from my high school and college days. I spent my junior year in Besancon, France, but basically I knew how to get my pastries, order breakfast. and travelled. Wasn't too serious about it back then but at 79 I am suddenly getting my act together. Some of us males are known to procrastinate---even up to 50 years or so. . .Thanks for the kick start!
Hi Roberta and duca great too see you guys again sorry haven't been on that boat building is amazing place. That 73 would just do you guys. Take care lot's of love Billy from Liverpool
That's good to hear you speaking a bit of french. Let us know if we can help somehow. As for me, I think I would learn some Spanish. With English and Spanish, I believe one can go almost everywhere. Portuguese would be a plus too, definitely.
What a fantastic trip. The Boatbuilders workmanship is amazing. I see that you have Lizzie along with you. Her boating adventures are in my area so I follow her channel too 🙂
I have been following Matt and Jessica since they started rebuilding Elements of Life. And being Canadian, Distant Shores is a staple of my video diet. Best wishes from the far North.
I dont like to boast, but I know that us Dutchman are among the best boat builders in the world, especially custom built saling and motor yachts are world famous. I used to sail a lot on ships like this, but now I am to old to do this, but I still enjoy watching the beautiful work you all do preserving these ships! Keep on sailing en enjoy the seas!
This was sort of a dream boat/fantasy episode. Lovely state of the art sailboats. You guy are so lucky you got to see them up close. Stay safe and stay groovy.
Great boat yard tours. Would be nice to have been with you guys. Roberta, always with amazing smiles.......and, Duca, like a kid in a candy shop. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝👙🌞✨
I prefer an aluminum hull over any other material. For the mast and boom, I'm not sure if I would go with aluminum or carbon fiber. I think I would go with the lighter weight material if it's significantly lighter because carbon fiber is way more expensive. I'm going to build an aluminum catamaran. The same one that Sailing into Freedom is building. It's an Odisea 48. It's a sailors catamaran. That European boat builder is doing a fantastic job with everything. It's amazing to see all those incredible looking boats. Eye candy for sure. They build the nicest looking aluminum sail boats I've ever seen!
Don't get hung up on french grammar, what's important is that you have enough vocabulary. Concentrate on learning the names of the things you use most commonly in daily use, especially boat parts/spares, food etc.
c'est très bien de vouloir apprendre le Français, car vous allez voir que cette langue est très complètre, il y a un mot pour chaque chose...!! Bravo à vous...!! Vincent en France qui vous regarde depuis le début de la remise en état de ce voilier...!!
Cow cuddling is a thing? Hang out at a dairy farm for a while and you will get all you want. It isn't that hard to weld aluminium. What you tried is likely the hardest technique. It is called TIG welding. You can learn how to make strong welds in an afternoon and you can get quite good in a week. (40 hours) If you like welding look at SV Seeker and watch a steel boat being done by hand. I will also mention that Distant Shores might have the oldest channel, one couple that has been at it I believe longer is Sailing Emerald Steel. They built their own boat from scratch and are still sailing it. It is good to dream. Invite Lizbeth to crew when you get to the carribbean when you get there. She deserves a break from shoveling coal.
I never could have imagined that I would see MY HOUSE in the background of a video on this channel 🤣 Amazing! I hope you had a couple of hours to spend in Amsterdam too
You guys got me. When I saw your opening picture I thought, "Damb, you got a new boat!" But after watching your video I realized that it's not your boat. I think I would have plugged them and told them that I would give you guys great advertisement. You guys are RUclips stars with alot of followers! There is another sailing couple that got a major discount on their sailboat and all's they had to do was advertise their boat. And yes those are beautiful sailboats.
Thank you for sharing your fantastic journey to Europe and all those dream boats what a magical journey through all those boats and building companies seeing how boats are built and the internal and external layouts are planned and put together , plus the extra company you had added some light comedy to your journey , also thank you for introducing distant shores to us , I’m getting quite a collection of sailing stories to watch , yourselves were first in Odd then Yaba and a few others , all the best from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Such an incredible and interesting video. I really enjoyed this. You both get so much done in such a short space of time. Dynamic Duo is the word. Keep well and safe. James.
Wow awesome amazing boats , My sister is going over to France at the end of the month to see how it will go with her daughter as her father is from Europe and been in France a long time before covid, so I'm hoping in a few years to travel again? 👍🏽
Beautiful boat's, question how thick is the hull of the aluminum boat. They make the furniture and inside like rv builder's build the rvs. Be safe stay healthy enjoy your week 😊
Outstanding video guys. I see why Duca and Roberta are in heaven. But you guys restored Odd and every job on it was done by the book. the new boats may be bigger but the quality is the same...
I really liked the visit to shipyards, it is my weakness to visit companies to see the production lines. I am going to Amsterdam soon and I would really like to see that beautiful and modern shipyard. Luca, would you help me schedule the visit?
Bonne idée …. Enchanté de vous féliciter dans ma langue originelle. Vous faites un travail fantastique. Votre chaleur humaine me rassure: vous serez bien accueilli dans les Antilles française. Alors…. Bons vents
Hello Odd Life Crew... (Roberta & Duca) From your first moment of finding this dream boat (Odd) I've been following you and I've also watched all the episodes about your Tiny House... Unfortunately I have been unable to follow you as much in the last two months due to circumstances and I am now catching up again! How nice to see that you have been to Makkum in the Netherlands. It is a pity that I am only seeing this now, otherwise I could have arranged a wonderful overnight stay for you in a 5-star hotel in the heart of Amsterdam. I would have loved to meet you and drive you around the Netherlands. All the best to you and lots of sailing fun and I hope to experience many more episodes!! With best regards, Roelof
I wonder if the second boatyard built Pelagic Australis, Skip Novak's former boat that Chris and Sophie made U tube videos about, when they took it to the Antartic. Aquaholic also did a boat tour of it as well.
You already speak at least two languages! But hey I respect learning. FYI you speak good English and they speak that everywhere in the Bahamas and Caribbean.
@@OddLifeCrafting you should try to visit the Multihull centre Atlantic Marine just outside Plymouth where they build Dazcats and Broad Blue cats including the amazing Rapier 550 a fast cruising cat that one person can sail from inside. You were also close to Mark …Wilding sailing and his Wharram Pahi project.
Torn between the classic looks of Odd and this state-of-the-art aluminum boat. What ever you decide i will follow. One question about sound. Do they use something to quiet the water against the aluminum hull? See you soon. 😋
That's a good question. I believe under the water line there is no insulation but they have really thick flooring and I guess that helps to stop some of the sound.
I'm guessing Roberta was joking but is it really small compared with Odd? Always love your videos! Pretty jealous though. I'll be honest there isn't just one yard on my dream boat builder list but KM is one of them:-)!
