We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life.
We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams.
SUBSCRIBE to our channel and join us every SUNDAY for a new episode of our journey!!

Wonderful tour! I so much more prefer the bright, modern interiors vs the traditional wood Panels. Especially for full time living
Dear KM,
If I was KM Yachts, I would be very grateful for this video.
Big compliment and very well earned.
Well done KM !!!
Harry
Of course we are! Really nice video!
Oh my! I will have to watch this again and again, in slow motion. So many interesting details and features, but one cannot have everything! If it were my boat, if I were going to a broad spectrum of climates, I would have an enclosed, or semi-enclosed helm, much like the Amel or Beneteau. Insulated cabin, heater, air conditioner, air filtration, washer-dryer, upright refrigerator and freezer with extra units in storage area, dishwasher, induction cooking (no propane except for heater), access to cold weather gear, nav station with joystick for in-cabin navigation -- let's see what else? I like the light interiors of all the Dutch boats, especially the first one. Dehumidifier.
I saw many boats I could dream about, but when I saw our own boat at the end of your KM tour I really felt happy with raised heartbeat.
Our boat Aluna Ovni-385.
We were not able to visit the KM "open dag"
Sorry we didnot meet you!
Good luck with finishing your boat, camper and giving birth to another dream comes true!
Regards
Jaap
🥰 it’s a great boat. You are basically building a new boat 😁 that’s the beauty of a metal boat
Stunning details on these yachts I am (73) never sailed but owned a motor boat many years ago. Great videos as usual. Look forward to seeing ODD2 take shape
me looking forward to seeing your boat is my favourite one 😀😀😀😀
Nice to see sailinguma too🎉
I found the Stadtdhip 56 S/Y "Merrimac" so innovative that is is my favorite craft ever...all based upon your video. I have never seen such an interesting S/V. Thanks so much for the video.
Agreed. I need a 90 minute youtube on that boat alone. Love, love the lifeline rail.
Another vote for a real review of this boat ❤❤
We'll see what we can do about that!
@OddlifeCrafting You guys should be learning to weld and work aluminum. As you build out your boat you will be very glad to be able to make small additions and modifications. Like adding a bracket or attachment. The project will turn out much better if you have that ability at your fingertips. Get a TIG welder and start practicing.
Merrimack! That’s a sailboat designed and owned by sailors with years, and many many miles of blue water behind them. So many great features. Hope y’all took lots of notes🤓
I LIKE THE 55 ALBATROS
These sail boats are on a whole other level. Great video! Excited to see your boat from start to finish. BTW made me smile when your friends at @SailingYabá launched their schooner. 😎🙌🏻
💕
I like the Visibility from inside the boat is very nice.
The most interesting, inventive and all around for me was the Stadtship 56 with the Boom that raises and lowers to for the wife and the solid angle drop Keel. I've never seen or heard of those personal designs before. Very, Very Interesting!!!
Thanks, that is true custom yacht building! 🙂
4:17 the MORNING HAZE 55 ohhhhh nice... I LIKE THAT ONE !! well I LIKE THE UPSTAIRS INSIDE COCKPIT thingie with the ''salon'' below... I like that layout... perfect werld an all that!!~
Amazing boats.
🥰
The safety tether is great idea
it is so nice to see you guys in my home land, we are great boat builders
What a fabulous video ! It was exceptional. Congratulations.
So many ideas, beautiful footage and editing, it's a shame i'm too old to start. Favourite i think is Distant shores, they have so many years of experience. Keep up the good work and greetings from Sweden!
That was a great video you guys. I had never heard of that brand before. Beautiful boats.
Amazing Yard, Boat Designs, fantastic video and wonderful Hosts.
many thanks, we come back to saling boat !
Great ending with Distant Shores and Uma. :¬) Webhead USA
☺️
Spanish is my choice for a second language. I have Spanish speaking friends, and I'm planning encountering more Spanish speakers as I travel south on my sailboat. Those boats look like they are wide enough to fit my whole tiny boat inside athwart ship. I like the first one or maybe two that have light colored paneling on the overhead. I think I would like to try to do that on my tiny boat after I cut the top off and jack it up 12".
It's so much more fun to travel to a place and to know a little of their language. ☺️
Nice boats now that i have seen the models i will commission both the 70 and the 50 footers!
Hey guys, very nice video. It was nice meeting you in Makkum, too bad we didnt talk a bit more. Ah well, who knows. Maybe next time.
So very special! 1. In close proximity of my grandparents homeland, Friesland. 2. Tour of the top quality sail boats ever built. 3. Distant Shores, Uma, & Odd Crews, ALL together, in one beautiful spot: The nearly completed Distant Shores sail boat. It put a tear of joy in my eye. I liked ALL the boats, but @5.19, Bestevaer 55 Albatros is my fav. Thanks for a super episode!
Oh nice to see you are trying to speak new language..if you like we can learn together Dutch..Thanks
🥰 we could
SO MANY BOATS!!!!..SO MANY IDEAS 💡!!!..I AM SURE YOU GUYS WILL PUT THE BEST IDEAS TOGETHER FOR YOUR BOAT....AND ROBERTA YOU ARE LOOKING LOVELY AS EVER!!!..❤❤..
@25:04 Tom Waes is a famous Belgian TV presenter, who's apparently building this yacht for a new TV program.
Bunk beds are handy for extra crew having one a Pullman is a good idea. (It folds up)
Some great boats 2x 👍
The stadtship 56 is so cool.
Dutch boat building quality and styling on display.. Nice footage..I am sure this trip gave you both quite some "ideas" to consider...
Great boats, indeed. We got plenty ideas ☺️
😁
SV Morning Haze had a phenomenal interior design. I especially liked the gloss white with varnished wood accents. Very clean and traditional.
🥰
Your Dutch is already 200% better than my Brazilian Portugese
🥰
Another great video. I’m quite impressed how the builders seemed so open to sharing their ideas
They are great! Ideas and also their knowledge on how to do this ☺️
I am so excited for this and for you guys!
The 55’ boat is very nice.
Koopmans 37 Blikvis was my first fave. Isn't it amazing how necessity inspired invention though? Like the guy who made a no- brainer adjustment for his wife because she is too short to reach something. I could literally see your brain ticking over Duca!
Amazingly groovy, cool and beautiful sailing vessels. P.S., you two are such a cute couple. Love following your adventures.
🥰
Amazing video better advert for km yachting than their website. The stadship 56 for me
great one!!
🥰
Another great video, I love watching and learning from Luca,, love watching.
Keep it simple ... and Odd.
Wow, this is incredible to see. So many beautiful aluminum boats. Aluminum is for sure the best hull material for a boat and that's why I'm also going to build an aluminum boat soon. The Ovni 385 looks like your hull design and I love that transom detail on it. It's hard to tell which hull design I like best but I do like Distant Shores TV boat a lot. I actually like the look of the flat panel hull construction better than the smooth rounded look for some reason. I guess it's an easier way to build a boat and you can get out on the water much faster if you were going to build a boat from a set of plans and cnc cut files.
It is not a good fit for aluminium hulls the stressing of curving will keep the hull fair.
Great stuff guys! Keeping the dream alive for us there!!
💕
Torque tubes are also elastic in torsion. Torque tubes, Cable systems and Rigid pushrods all systems have best applications and there are 3 metrics to decide : 1 Number of linkages/parts from your hand to the control surtace. 2 Overall rididity (lock the handle, and apply a certain amount of force to control surface, measure deflexion) 3 Overall friction of the command. Cables are generaly better for long distances and were there are obstacles to avoid, and only when keeping cable sheath lenght to a minimum otherwise friction riseup. Torque tubes for small lenght, low friction, but need very rigid hull and complying bearings otherwise can be stuck by hull deformations. Most of the time rigid pushrods are the best of both worlds, except if you can't have straight linkages.
Lovely channel, nice content to. Been following you guys quite a while. Living the dream that many persue but never achieve. Congratulations on becoming a mom an dad. Such a wonderful thing but also a challenge. You will manage though being a good team and all. New boatprojects are also exciting and love the way you look around for inspiration and ideas. So keep doing what you do and thank you for taking us along on your future projects.
Ps. Leave the backpacks in the cockpit next time visiting boats. The owner will thank you for that. Backpacks do tend to leave some marks in the interiors because of the zippers and buckles.
🥰 Thanks for the suggestion. The backpack is full of equipments we need for the camera (batteries, mics...) and many times we need to use them and also we don't have insurance 😬, so it's safer to carry it around. We always take an extra care to not touch anything with it.
Great ending.
I liked the boat with the wood burning heater best. It looked homey! Where did Duca get his backpack? I love it!
Hi. We bought it in Australia in 2016. The brand is the same as this one on the link and the interior is pretty similar amzn.to/4bjMMXz I don't think they do they same one we have anymore
thx
Your dutch is "prima" 😂
dank je 😁
You asked which boat we liked the most. I can't speak for anyone other than myself. My favorite was the boat that was COMPLETELY WHITE INSIDE. Heads, salon, galley all white. That is the one I liked the best.
That could be the Stadtship 56 Merrimac or the Bestevaer 53 Xoas.
woah, I SEE MULTIPLE WATERTIGHT COMPARTMENTS???? totally cool!!
Someday, Uma, Yabá and Odd together in one place.
Lindiss
One thing that would be nice to see is, more rounded and ergonomic countertops in the galleys. 😮
The squared corners and edges could be softened with some curved edges to make contacting them in a seaway much less painful 😣
You must remember that these are all custom designed and therefore each customer has been integral in what you see
@@jackdbur I worked as a shipwright building custom yachts for ten years. Each one custom, the naval architect and the interior designer are always at loggerheads over the details. It’s quite obvious which one was most influential on these designs.
16:45 oh that is definitely more my style! I like modern design with light colours. Especially white, gives a feel of it being bigger and there's a lot more light inside the boat.
for some of those yachts it would have been nice to see more, especially those under 55 feet
Definitely like the Garcia boats. They are one of the few that actually put the steering gear behind a water tight bulkhead. All boats that claim to be blue water should have the rudder posts behind a water tight bulk head 👍.
Actually some of the KM boats also have a water tight bulkhead ☺️
Some of the interiors in those yachts we're amazing they looked more like something you would see in someones home
Youre good at learning other languages haha, nice to see some boats from my country👍
🥰⛵️
Outstanding loved the Video
🥰
Wait what?? You guys were at KM 2 weeks ago?? I didn't know :-( I was there for half an hour in the afternoon, as I couldn't spare any more time from work. Ofcourse I paid Sheryl and Paul a visit, that was the main purpose of going to Makkum... But would have loved to shake hands with you two too. Well, maybe another time. Cheers, Bro
☺️
Bom dia Roberta & Duka.😊😊😊
Yes, I will be Praying for that Future Little Sailor!!!
If i had known you where so close by me in the netherlands i was come over to meet you both.
🥰
Bunk Beds: If you have bunk beds that fold up and out of the way (or can be elevated), then there is more floor space for playing, etc. Fold-up bunk beds are popular in RVs so you can view the many options by viewing RVs on manufacturers websites, or at a dealership or at RV shows. I think the U.S. manufactures the largest RV/5th wheelers so websites may be your only way to see the options, unless you visit the U.S. for an RV show. BTW: You can have fold-up bunk and elevator beds without losing storage, which is why viewing floor plans and taking tours (video or in-person) is necessary.
Question, why is the wood on the interior of boats almost always dark. Wouldn’t lighter wood make it feel bigger?
Varnished mahogany is widely considered the most beautiful furniture grade finish. Modern tastes for lighter woods are slightly faddish..
Have a look at the Stadtship 56 Merrimac and Bestevaer 53 Xaos in this video, you'll like it!
The stadtship 56 looks great. It reminds me of the Starship Enterprise, very clean and futuristic.
This is fast becoming my favorite shipwright company.
That was quite a set of boats! Phew!
Was there any particular special details what you really want to implement into your boat?
And if you want help with the design and/or making drawings/3d-model, just hit me! 🙂🙃
Hi. I think we said on the video what we liked about each one of them ☺️ Thanks for the design and 3d offer. 😊
That silver grey is the colour cork decking goes as it ages.. it has a 40yr + life span and is light better insulating comfortable on the feet in hot or cold absorbs bumps if you drop your phones or cameras. Its Totally green.... as it regrows.. And theres no harmfull plastics or foam volatiles to de gas or shed nano particles.
Take a look at Aluring artics Al boat ..the bought and rebuilt ..they are Finnish.
Glad you got to meet up ...😂 The inside of their hull is cork sprayed..
ruclips.net/video/HydIgUqHKkc/видео.htmlsi=UGt5hdaZ_E_heilw we used cork on our van to try it out to use on our boat as insulation. We are actually afraid of having termites, as our boat is meant to go to warm places where we can find this bugs, so we are still not sure if we are gonna use it in the boat. Also it would be totally green if they didn’t require so much glue to make the recipe to be able to use it on the boat. If I’m not wrong the one the use at Garcia’s is 70% cork and the rest if glue. I do like the cork solution as insulation and the touch of it. ☺️
@@OddLifeCrafting
Take a look at this architectural video.. on U tube about a cork clad house in Spain.
It's Picked because it's fire proof , rot proof and insect resistant. I saw you do the Van the glues or resins used vary but in Cork roll and tiles a lot of the binding is from heating steam and just compression of grains to lock together. The sprayed glues and recycled grains can be natural as well.
Any teak or plywood you use will also be more vulnerable to attack. Read the story of restoring the Wharram Pahi Spirit of Gaia by Hanneka Boone. Jame's partner and designer.
I would ask the company that makes the cork sea deck what there experience is... as it's only 10mm thick exposed to the weather and salt and tightly bonded together I would bet that any wood pests would find it impossible to pretty unpleasant for even the smallest termites to get into and survive.
Basically

Guys every time I give you a U tube link to the actual use the comments vanish. Tried 3 times I know it's the platform but it's ridiculous. 🙄
So here's a Quote Does cork repel termites?
Cork flooring also contains a substance called suberin that repels bugs, mold and termites, making cork naturally anti-allergenic and insect repellent. Suberin also helps make cork both fire and water resistant - which means cork can be submerged under water for days without rotting!21 Aug 2017
There are many forms of sea decking based on cork but it's basically tougher than Teak and better insulation . It's even been used on spacecraft. 🌌😎 As firesafe non toxic insulation.
It's made and fitted in the UK Holland France but as you speak Brazilian Portuguese I would see who and how much it costs straight from it's home country.
👍👍👍
11:15 a seriously cool boat for world traveling
That's the Stadtship 56 Merrimac.
👍👍👍👍
When considering that you are planning on living on your boat, it seems typical small windows are unsuitable. There are boats with nice windows which allow you to see out and permits alot of light inside. Put an extra 10 -15 feet into the hull so you can include more features. Washer/Dryer machines, freezers, tool storage, work bench, and room for baby. Also, I notice not much is allowed for ventilation, heating/ac, which is often an after thought. Keep everything simple.
Well, our budget don't allow a bigger boat, but we are having all you described on a 43ft 😁
So, you have a lot of good idea's now but what I didn't see is how tenders are lifted. How and where are you going to put your tender?
The 60
Really interesting and how is mum to be doing
Great 🥰
🤩👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤩

Grinding welds below the waterline is against most class rules. (Boat on the right in the thumbnail)
There is a big discussion about it www.boatdesign.net/threads/grinding-welds.36802/
4:05 if i win the lotto i would drop it all on that
That is the Bestevaer 55 Morning Haze. She has sailed trough the Northwest Passage twice and will head down to Patagonia over the next two years.
Koopman 37
As I always say… if it ain’t Dutch… it ain’t mutch 😜👍👍👍

That's the new Bestevaer 54 MicMac
O nome do barco e kiwi
Valeu por compartilhar. Com certeza um grande barco.
nice video, but you should not wear your backpack on your back wile visiting the interior!!!
We know. But we have a lot of camera equipment inside and no insurance 😳
Good morning, Duca and Roberta,
We hope you are doing fine. How is Roberta with her pregnancy?
With our best wishes,
Raul and Joan, Bryan, Texas
I’m great. Thanks 😊
What is the size and sail type of your new boat?
Hi. Here you can find more information about it ruclips.net/video/FGLwyT44vfQ/видео.htmlsi=0p5VAtfroxju83LL
You're having a little duca
🥰
Watching this I think of youtubers who switched to catamarans such as La Vagabond (now sailing a Trimaran), Delos (in the process building an aluminum cat), Ruby Rose, Sailing Into Freedom building an aluminum cat in Vietnam. Thanks for not building a catamaran because watching your build as it progresses will be awesome.
What's with the whistling?
Hi. I didn’t understand you question 😁
