The delay doesnt delay the darkening of a hood. It delays the return of the normal color after the arc stops.....
Alot of people seem to misunderstand that. 👍

I bought the Sentinel right after it released and loved it. It's a good helmet and was better than anything I had tried to that point. Then I pulled the trigger on the Panaramaxx and IMHO I it far superior. The clarity is better. The light shade is lighter (better). When you use the GRIND button on the Optrel a blue light blinks rapidly so you know it's on. The Sentinel has a similar feature (orange light) but it blinks slower and it is possible to flash yourself if you aren't paying attention. Also, what they said about the Sentinel rolling and scratching the lens is correct. Very prone. I like the adjustability of the Sentinel headgear much better than the OPTREL, BUT the Optrel holds up better over time. The Crystal uses the same headgear design of the PanaramaxxThe ESAB has a little foam pad connected to the back of the headgear that wears over time and has a tendency to peel back. One other thing. I didn't fact check the # of sensors but I will tell you that I have flashed myself multiple times using my Sentinel in restricted position welds. I tried my Optrel in the exact same position and haven't been flashed once.
I will probably buy the Crystal 2.0 and keep as a straight TIG helmet and keep using my Panaramaxx for stick welding since I've already beaten it up quite a bit by welding overhead. I was originally planning on doing that using the Sentinel for stick and the Optrel for tig but felt that Optrel was so much better that it didn't make sense to not use it for both. Is the Sentinel a good weld hood? Yes. Do I think the Optrel is better? Absolutely.

I own the A50 air and do low amp tig and the clarity is incredible! Wear it for around 7 hours a day very comfortable.

I've got both the esab a50 and optrel panoramax
And in all honesty the esab was definitely the better buy, (esab costing me $500nzd and optrel panoramax being $1k+)
Esab comes touch screen, better premium headband , hood doesn't just close on you, everything feels better
Optrel comes with the budget headband that you'll find on those budget permanent dark shade hoods, (for 1k+ the only nice thing about the helmet is that it's got a Google style welding screen)
Auto darkening isn't really a thing , if you switch from tig to mig you'll know straight of the bat to either reduce shade or increase, because everyone's eyes react to light differently, so even with auto mode you'll be needing to fine adjust the auto darkening mode regardless making the function pointless, and controls are even budget

Oh and the grind feature was to dark for grinding but good for cutting. The knobs on the side constantly had to readjust as it moves if you bump it. I would to recommend this brand.

Finally got sick of my over priced Optral Welding helmet. With the blur lines when welding it produced. 1st one did this and the second replacement did this. Would think for $550 it would work perfect for the year 2003.

Not the best info.. what about head gear, differences between clarity n color , face n neck coverage , battery life and view range ?

Divination.21 we intended the information supplied to be based on beginners experience. There are more in depth reviews that can be found on you tube.
Our conclusion were based on comparison that is purely side by side likes or dislikes, value of the products because there is a pretty significant range in pricing. We can’t comment on battery life as both products are brand new and as of the time of this response batteries are still strong. I believe we did discuss the neck coverage, referenced in the size of the lip at the base of both helmets. I understand you feel we didn’t deliver a in depth review but our intent was opinions from our purchase decisions and general feedback was all we were offering.

Which one had the best clarity

    • @2520hollywood
      @2520hollywood  6 лет назад +1

Clarity was really close. I think it comes down to the users eyesight. Both of us are in our 50’s and have added diopters to assist in magnification. My feeling is the larger viewing area of the ESAB seems to give the feeling of larger view area. The claims are optrel has more natural color because it filters the red better. But I think both of us would call it a draw.

@@2520hollywood the optrel has a clarity of 1/1/1/1 and the esab has 1/1/1/2 both cool hoods .i think low amp tig welding is where we would see the difference.

@@2520hollywood I have the Optrel Panaramaxx. I had the Sentinel. I like Optrel more, but there was a definite price difference. I paid 267.12 for the Sentinel. I paid more than 500 for the Optrel. Is it twice as good as the ESAB? No. Would I choose an Optrel hood over the Sentinel? Yes. But my Panaramaxx has like 3 times the viewing area of a traditional helmet. Call your local rep or supply house and see if you can demo both hoods. Then make your choice.
