i have one small change i want to see. in the Original show if someone was epileptic Dr.Beckett or someone else would handle it by restraint and the long lived notion that something should be placed in the mouth to prevent the tongue from being swallowed. this in fact is false since the tongue is a fairly decent sized muscle/organ and trying to restrain and force any object into someones mouth while seizing could cause a person to bite unintentionally the person trying to help them or the person having the epileptic fit could have broken teeth or damage to the mouth or head area. i am epileptic and i believe that needs to be changed because spreading a falsehood like that could cause harm to someone from a person trying to help that person suffering an episode. while alot of fans will be watching it who saw the original series im just as sure that there will be plenty sharing the series again with their kids and watching the next installment and having a stereotype of handling a serious condition can cause alot of harm and further spread mis-information. im well aware it may have been a common practice 20-30-40 years ago but that in my opinion is something that does need to change

I still say that if Al and Beth got back together there is no guarantee that Al was even involved in the project. His life more than likely took a totally different path that would negate everything done in the entire series. Many episodes revolved around Al being a womanizer and many failed marriages.
Think about that. Not only did Sam sacrifice his return home to save Al's marriage, but he also undid all the timeline changes he did for everyone else during the entire series.

When you start off eliminating the vast majority of actors/actresses as a possibility for the main character - you're already doomed. The person that plays the Leaper needs to be talented, extremely versatile and likeable - that's already limiting the options. The ethnicity requirement makes it highly unlikely you'll find the right person....and shows an agenda, that no one that watches these types of shows wants to watch. If you run an honest open-minded casting call and happen to find the best person is a first generation ethnic actor - then cool. In this case, they're actually feeding into a stereotype by wanting the person to be from Asia.....but they are too woke to see it. Casting some roles, does require casting by gender, race, hair color, eye color, body shape, etc. (ie. Any of Al's daughters are going to have to look like Al and Beth) But the main characters here should be 100% talent FIRST with no diversity requirements at all.

That's how casting works... For movies, TV shows, plays, commercials and generally, give or take, has ALWAYS worked and if you didn't have a problem when the casting call sheet, up front, listed white men for those roles back then (or in any other instance of casting when that's been the jumping off point - EXCLUDING ALL OTHER POSSIBLE RACES OR SEXES) then the fact that you're having this issue right now, for the reasons you're stating is, sadly, just as it comes across reading it: ABSOLUTELY disingenuous

When producers specifically look for someone of colour to play a character, before choosing someone based on their acting skills, this gets my goat.
I disagree with the casting NOT because of what they look like, but because they seem too young to have known Sam and therefore would have no personal commitment to the Project. When I heard about the character of Magic Johnson returning (the name will always remind me of the basketball player), I had an idea. They should have made Tom Beckett the Observer. Sam Beckett was an empty canvas of a character part of what made Scott Bakula so perfect because he is generally bland but believable. (that is not a dig I actually have always liked his work) The show was always simple. Sam and Al fixing the little things to improve people’s lives. Those around the life leapt into were important for a show or two but then they moved on. It addressed many of societal flaws from the past but always kept it in the context of the past. This new show sounds like something that is going to beat you over the head with week after week with just how terrible western society is. For some reason, science fiction has become the go to vehicle for this and I am getting rather tired of it. When you focus casting on checking off "diversity" check boxes, that's what we're talking about. The fact that they have to specify ethnicity in casting is telling enough. The woke-ists out there count on people not pointing this out under fear of being called all sorts of "ists" but that's the reality and it's about high time people stop pandering to this concept and stand up to it, say that something is wrong here and we're not afraid to point it out.

This has long been my contention. Thomas Beckett returns home after Vietnam, and soon visits his old friend Professor Lonegro, who shares some results of his research, and they discuss Sam. Remember, Lonegro found strangers in his cabin in the woods, the man appeared excited to see the professor & declared, "Professor, it worked! This is Sam Beck..." Lonegro then married the woman. Plenty of opportunity here for PQL staff to be completely different, and for Lonegro to run a parallel & secret leaping program. By the way, the LO in LOTHOS could stand for Lonegro...

Scott was the embodiment of Sam. Sam was such a wholesome selfless person and that never waivered. Al always referred to him as a boy scout. That wholesomeness is what drew fans in. That's why they need Sam and for Scott to play him. If they have a new lead character, that person needs those types of traits to make it work. They also shouldn't have so much interaction with the people in the future. The idea was to focus on the fact that Sam was very lonely and Al was his only true friend. The audience shared those feelings with him. Of course, this is all my opinion of why I loved the show and what I think made it work. I wish them well with it, and hope it's a winner. Younger Sam ends up using (without telling anyone at first) these cells to help make Ziggy a successful AI, being partly organic. This would allow for Ziggy to sync with Sam's brain patterns when he traveled through time to lock onto him and provide the holographic visuals for Sam and the Observer. Since that does not seem to be canon, I guess someone else can play the time jumping lead....

Scott Bacula could be the character that tries over and over to save the new traveler and occasionally getting stuck in time helping this new character but somehow getting sent back to the lab each time he tries to interfere. Without Bacula having a lead permanent role they might as well dump it. This needs to be part reboot and part continuation. Reboots without what we loved will end up like the poorly redone Lost in Space. Why is it the studios want to change the gender of all the parts we love! Another example is Trek discovery which has created a great divide in the fandom of Trek. The ideas you presented here will kill Leap for good.

While I think there's no Quantum Leap without the irreplaceable Dean Stockwell, a reboot should perhaps include Scott Bakula in the conclusion of the storyline.
The reboot should either explore the early relationship between a young Sam and Al and what made Sam decide to explore and invent time travel or it should include Sam's daughter, Sammy-Jo who was said by Al to be involved with Project Quantum Leap to try and find a way to bring Sam home which was a wrong that needed to be put right.
I would also like to see Beth (Susan Diol) involved in the show. As she was reunited with Al at the end of the final season, she knows about Project Quantum Leap by now. She should be there, if they manage to retrieve Sam to tell him that Al has sadly passed away, which would explain why Al had trouble finding Sam after he leaped into himself. It would then be fitting to show a tribute to the late great and lamented Dean Stockwell and the actress who played Al's first wife is much older now herself.
What I couldn't understand about the show was why Sam was the only time traveller (apart from Alia) in Project Quantum Leap. If he invented a way to travel back in time, why wouldn't others working with him take the opportunity?
There has to be a resolution - a conclusion to the original story and perhaps allow the characters to find a way to control who they leap into and explore why they have to change history before they do so.

Since time was changed when Al and Beth reunited, who's to say that Al was even involved in the project to begin with? Maybe this is why the project became dormant for 30 years because in the first episode it was Al in court trying to get the project continued and Sam changed time so the judge was a different person and agreed to the continuation. Without Al it changes everything from that point on. All of the stuff Sam changed would more than likely revert back to the original timeline.

    • @gaynor1721
      @gaynor1721 2 года назад

@@billkeithchannel I have already thought of that. It is possible that Sam changed Al's future from the point he was reunited with his first wife, Beth. In which case, Al might not have become a broken down alcoholic, might not have met Sam who turned his life around, might not have gotten involved in the Starbright Project etc. etc. etc.
However, Donna Eleese originally stood Sam up at the altar and he changed his own history by reuniting her with her estranged father. By the time of _The Leap Back_ episode, Sam was married to Donna, although in his original history, they weren't married and Sam had no memory of his wife and Al couldn't tell Sam that he had changed the course of his own life after leaping, because the Sam who leaped wasn't the same Sam who married Donna.
Furthermore, there are parts of a planned episode that were filmed in which Al Calavicci (Dean Stockwell) is seen talking to his first wife, Beth (Susan Diol) and discussing the fact that there's no one in the waiting room, Sam has leaped into himself and is lost in time.
It must be assumed that Sam explained Project Quantum Leap to Beth when he returned to the Calavicci home in the final episode because he appeared from nowhere in the Calavicci home and Beth saw Sam because he didn't leap into someone else, which means Sam is time travelling as himself, not leaping into other people's lives.
If Sam explained Project Quantum Leap to Beth, she might have told Al about it, when he returned from Vietnam, which means Al might have deliberately sought Sam out to become involved in Project Quantum Leap.
So that would debunk your theory.

I think that Quantum Leap definitely has some coattails for a spinoff that should be in the same timeline and universe as Sam Beckett and Al. Although having new cast members is important to give new life into the series... It would be so easy for them to have the 'siblings' pick up where Sam and Al left off 30 years later. Think about it... When Sam came back to Donna (The Leap Back).. They had each other for a short while but within that 30 years time time Donna could have birthed a son or daughter that grew up wondering about their father (Sam) and trying to figure out a way to get Sam home. Al and Beth re-united (Mirror Image) thanks to Sam making things right and had four daughters. How about the youngest going into the Navy (like her father Al) and picking up the torch of the Quantum Leap Project and being the military liaison to the Sam and Donna's son/daughter? While I like the character of 'Magic' coming in as the ultimate leader... I think it could work especially with everyone doing a multi-verse or infinite universes these days. Perhaps this new character Dr. Ben Prassad tries it out, gets transported and the son/daughter of Sam and Donna goes after him retrieves him but cannot get back due to this unbreakable drive to find their father Sam. Just spit-balling here...I agree Scott Bakula should be in the new Quantum Leap as the person being searched for by his son/daughter since he never returned. Think about all the characters and episodes that could be explored again from the original series and the near misses, chance encounters and even the son/daughter leaping into Sam!!! There is so much history and rich storytelling there!! NBC/Peacock lets do this!!!!

If you don't want to click the thumbs up for the news, we totally understand, but please give us a thumb's up so the RUclips Algorithm will actually serve the video and we can get the information out there to more people. There is a way to not only include Scott, but have an entirely new Quantum Leap team.
Have a new team member step into the excellerator and help Sam fix whatever is wrong, then when both leap out, Sam returns to his own body, and his assistant gets stuck in the past.
Sam can become one of the observers, and they can still have Sam in most episodes.
They can also include the more diverse cast.

I wasn't a fan of "QL" and you're not going to make me a fan if you "woke" everything. Key-the same actor in "Discovery" plays a non-binary. Figures as that's why I don't like the show anyway. Seems that the emphasis will be on colour and LGBT, not disability-unless that person is also either or both. I liked Scott better in "Enterprise" and "NCIS: NO" anyway.

Although I would absolutely love to see Scott return as Sam, his presence is not the key. Quantum Leap's success mostly rested on the chemistry between Scott and Dean. If the new cast has no chemistry and/or can't pull of the continuation of the original premise, then the show will tank with or without Scott returning. I will form my opinion when I see the show, Scott's presence will not be a deal breaker for me. Given his enthusiasm for the show I don't anticipate him not making an appearance but how large a part he has is anyone's guess at this stage. If he isn't involved then as long as the show is well written and acted and entertains me then I will watch.
If it has a diverse cast and inspires the haters to complain it is too 'woke' I will probably watch it just to spite them, I have gotten sick and tired of a minority of 'fans' complaining that a show is woke, didn't they see the original? Sure it had a predominantly white cast but it dealt with many issues that today's haters seem to despise reference to, race, feminism, disability, sexuality etc.

That's a fair point that the show was always progressive in tackling social issues, racism and historical injustice. But changing the lead from a white man whose purpose was to experience the discrimination he'd historically never faced to a 'minority' doesn't make sense in that regard. It's not just that, it's also that cast list has no white man in it which is clearly deliberate. This just comes across as box-ticking and tokenism.

You're contradicting yourself. You admit racism is bad, yet you are racist in terms of who should be the lead in the show.
Technically the vast majority of humans are Chinese or Indian (as in India)...white people are only about 20%...so by your logic, the lead should be a Chinese-American or Indian-American, and they intend it to be an Indian-American, yet you have issues. Absolute LOL at people saying that they don't want it to be 'all woke'. One of the earliest episodes is based on 'Driving Miss Daisy' and has Sam leap into a black man and learn through experience the differences in life experience of black people a mere 30 years before his time, and to a certain extent even then. Al literally talks about the experience of going on civil rights marches in the 60s.
Quantum Leap also has regular moments of Sam's clear disapproval of Al's attitudes towards women and the first episode where Sam leaps into a woman, while played for laughs at some moments, literally tackles issues of workplace sexual harassment.
Yet another classic case of fans of a science fiction show from when they were kids not thinking about/remembering any of the underlying (or sometimes very explicit!) themes explored in the episodes because they just enjoyed it as a piece of entertainment and couldn't be bothered to engage their brains.

I'm wondering if Sam could be somehow rescued through the lost main character and return to Project Quantum Leap as an advisor, sharing his wisdom and perspectives. Who Sam was as a person was integral to the show and I think a big reason why so many people loved Quantum Leap. If Ben is meant to be a time traveler who can go back in time and return, they could maybe even leap together. Or Ben's leap could somehow result in Sam being kicked back to the Project and Ben stuck leaping. There are so many possibilities that could involve Sam Beckett being a major character and keeping the devoted fans who have loved Sam for decades.

From the moment Sam leaps as himself in the "Mirror Image" episode (no leapee involved), and when he leaps to the late 60s and gets to talk to Beth letting her know Sam is alive, don't you think his time travelling becomes more "metaphysical" and less attached to the QL Project? That is, from that moment Sam could travel to any year or place he wants (within his lifetime), and fulfilling missions without Al's help because Al/ Gooshie/ Ziggy couldn't be able to locate Sam, as there was no leapee in the Waiting Room.
Other thing that I've been thinking all these years is the effects of the conversation between Sam and Al the bartender. I understood Sam resisted to the "fact" (according to Al the bartender) that he actually controlled his leaps (not "God"), and that he finally never "got back home" because he preferred to accept that "God" was the one who has been leaping him, so he would be like an instrument of "God".
I think a new series should address the philosophical ideas left loose in the finale, because if they don't, it wouldn't be the Sam Beckett we all know.

so in season 6 is a new person trapped jumping through time while sam beckett is still out there jumping through time as well? so at this point they gave up on getting sam home and are trying to get a different guy home.

I just find it funny how they go into detail with an attempt on making it worth watching. Cobra Kai proves that you can have diversity but still keep things in the right path BUT i dont see that here. Typical of course. How much you want to bet that once this show fails... They gonna blame the fans.

No, Cobra Kai gets away with it because the show isn't all about making it the Main thing. There's much diversity in life but if your main emphasis of a Traditional show is about Time Travel, then don't make the show about proving Wokenes. This NEVER Works. Make the show about Time Travel. If you do hsv race or gender swapping, don't make it about the main characters or the Underlying Theme of the show, or get ready for the show to go Broke...

@@brotherchrisrco1125 Cobra Kai works cause its still centered around the movie series but on a larger scale.

Sounds like I won't need to waste my time checking out another example of "go woke, go broke"...

classioc i grew up on this. My fav episdoees where the evil leaper saga. I hope they dig in deepier to the evil leaper and there hedquarters. That would make a good rival if they use that story on a regular basis.

God I loved this show and have watched CSI:NO from the beginning just because of him.

Well thanks for letting us know they plan on going full Woke... I will already decide to skip it.

It will be a woke mess that will only anger fans of the original show. When the fans complain the show runners and cast will call fans istaphobes. The show will pretty much be an all around failure but will run for at least three seasons out of sheer spite and everyone involved will fail upwards.

Chuds claim that anything that isn't centered around "Aryan" straight people is too "woke." Hell, MASH is probably too woke for you trolls. Besides, anyone throwing this particular tantrum has probably never even seen the original show in the first place... with all the crossdressing storylines and Sam even leaping into a gay person or black person, it would give the average Trumper a conniption fit.

@@mercurydude exactly, these people obviously see the show as some white saviour show. Me, having watched this show as a kid, born in 2001. I loved the way they told stories through time of people down trodden. Black, white, female, cross dressing, sexual abuse survivors, mentally impaired, all sorts of stories of all sorts of realistic people.
But these people complaint about having the main cast come from and represent different types of people. Especially ones who are more accepted today. Is ironic I think.

And that will give Scott the opportunity to return to play Archer again in a continuation! I like the idea of Pauley coming into the show. Kinda missed her.
