I bought this like a month ago. The Visor Shop has this for $270 and gets you this to your door for $300. $330 is higher price tag.
As someone who's had three pairs of Mk3s and now onto the Mk4 (I like to crash a lot), really not enthused about losing the inner side wrist protection. Yes, it's bulky. But like Spurg says, it's designed as an intentionally bulky glove, it's supposed to keep you safe above all else.
Other than that, wish they'd make a white colourway like the previous gen. Yellow gloves don't work on my blue bike. In the meantime I'll be trying not to crash again, at least not until Knox releases the Mk6.
I stopped buying Knox after my MK1's. They were great, fit great and by the time it came around to buying another pair they changed sizing which didn't fit (as they all the sudden went all long in some of the fingers where the MK1 fit like the most perfect and comfortable glove straight away, so I COMPLETELY disagree with it being bulky and removing the protection on the inside, now they are just like every other glove track manufacturer and lost their edge, getting worse every gen KNOX!)
Was waiting for the MK5's and I'm hell disappointed for them to remove protection like you mentioned, this was the reason I waited for them to fix the awful design on the MK4 then they go and pull this crap, so AGAIN I'm looking at other brands.
Also agreed with the white colourway, not a fan of this gens colours.
I also don't like how some reviewers seem to think the street riders need less protection when I find you have more accidents (and more dangerous ones) than on the track due to other people, cars etc.
Had way more accidents on the street from cars etc hitting me than crashing on the track..... and way worse ones. So I would argue you need MORE not less protection than the track, or at the very least the same amount.
@@TheSydguy30 You do realise "no one" need protection on the inside wrist right? Also that obnoxiously large wrist armour on the mk4 is more likely to cause a wrist injury as it will be more prone to catching... its more about sliding than pure impact...
Also if you actually bothered to look at the bloody thing theres a giant lower profile pad which is half the the wrist... and boa system on the inside of the wrist area is integrated into the/a pad...
So no, its technically more effecient padding. I'd know because I have these and I'm also a smart ass with a mechanical engineering degree so I know material science, like all sorts of sports and only need to do 2 years of medical school to be a certified paramedic... Yeah, basically all you said was "WAHHHH IT, I DONT LIKE HOW IT LOOKS! ITS BAD! IT HAS LESS PROTECTION BUT I DONT ACTUALLY KNOW WHY"
you do realise that these technically have more protection than most other gloves used in the motogp right? Outside wrist pad is larger than most and again, inside part of the boa system is a pad with sliders itself... GLOVES ARE NOT MEANT TO BE BULKY.
I feel like the design took a massive step back. The MK4 looked like you were indestructible. The MK5 looks like a regular non-motorcycle winter glove. When my MK4 pods wear out, I'll buy the MK4 gloves.
Great review as usual x
Reminds me of the Nintendo Power Glove, both in form and function.
For focusing on protection and the high price I’m suprised they don’t have level 2 CE certification.
Hi Spurge’
Unsolicited pro tip. When reviewing black gloves, wear a white shirt, or use a light coloured back ground. Otherwise, an interesting podcast.
Regards…😊
I picked up a pair of the Handroid MK4 a few months ago on clearance and they’ve been my favorite pair ever since. While the upper/interior pod is useless, having an off while wearing a pair of Alpinestars SP5 mid-cuff proved that ulna protection is everything. I didn’t even scuff my watch. I considered the Pod variant, but I didn’t feel they had enough protection in that area, MK4 or 5. Between the two, the MK5 Handroids would be the winner over the MK4 based on reduced bulk alone.
They've reduced protection for the MK5, that's how they reduced the bulk unfortunately. A lot of people have made comments on how bad it is removing that protection.
We're going over the gloves we never ever have in stock....
hey wheres Anthony ?
would you recommend daily commuting with the gauntlent version?
I do daily commute with the mk4 gauntlets. They work great, but if you need to stop a lot and take your gloves off to do things, they can become a bit cumbersome. Long haul or high speed comutes are great with them. Short hops around town I wear lighter gloves.
@AkiraSaWa62 would you recommend the pod version for most activities?
I have both gauntlet and pod, pods are GREAT forneveryday commute, basically ive worn the gaunts 1-2 times for the past 3? Years
I commute an hour each way and wear the mk5, once they break in are very comfortable and on the freeway it's nice having the protection. I've had a rock hit my hand and was really glad I had them on over my around town gloves.
Wtf is that thumb finger length?!!!! Are we sure this is made for human and not for a martian?
Had to return it for that reason. No way to do any turn signals
yeah, had to return them for the same reason. Couldn't touch the turn signals in any real way
They had the exact same problem with their last version, guess they didn't listen (again) plus removing protection to "less bulk" (in other words save money whilst increasing the price), stupid move, as they were never bulky, just awesome at protection and they now are just like other gauntlets on the market.
A necessary sacrifice for the protection that limited range of motion offers your thumb. These are definitely full douche racing gloves. But with the BOA, I found them just as "fast" to put on as other gauntlets and easier with the second hand cuz you just spin the knob. I find the signal is still very usable for me, but I'm sure it depends on the bike and user.
@@campbecd Thank you for the feedback. Sadly, I wrote the original message about 5-6 months ago and bought Knox orsa mk3. I really liked the astetics of the handroids but wasn't sure about the thumb length.
soooo bulky!
Wtf do they do
Gloves go on your hands. That is their main purpose at least, but can also be used as a symbolic way to challenge other's to duals. But mostly, they go on hands.
MK4s were way better
From experience or by look?
My 4s just got a palm hole.
