    A little tip for the paper under your table when you flip your work over, talk to your local sign shops and get the leftover vinyl backing paper from them. Absolutely the best to put under your pieces, it's like having teflon, nothing sticks to it. Epoxy, paint, varnish, linseed oil, etc. and it doesn't ruin your finish because it's smooth as a baby's butt. We usually just throw anyways, so I'll bet they'll be more than happy to just give you it. But make sure they use a large format printer so you can get the 54" backing paper.

    People are probably wondering at the $40K price tag, but I can attest, standard, factory made office furniture is ridiculously expensive ($800 for a roll around, up/down, adjustable arm chair). The hours, what is your time and effort worth, spent on this piece were astronomical, clearly. Also, I imagine there was some negotiation involved. It's a fantastic piece of work. BTW Blacktail recommended your channel, and I'm glad he did.

      $40k is very much in line with his market and probably a darn good deal for a 1off piece like this.

      The time spent making it, building it, transportation for such a big table in one piece and a crane (sorry don’t know the exact name of that tractor) to lift it to the second floor, the men to carry it, well not free! so no complaints about the tag here.

      I am a commercial office furniture install, and the final shot of the table made me laugh cuz the table looks soo good but the chairs around the table look like Chinese import chairs that aren't even conference chairs. Good looking table tho

Good call on the pre-seal with epoxy prior to black epoxy. Didn't do that with my desk and got a bit of the black in a bit of the grain around the knots I filled. Don't mind the look, but wish I thought about it in advance! Have you ever had issues with epoxy shrinking on you after cure, or not really because you're more patient than me on dry times? hah. One frustration that I have when I watch similar videos as well as cutting slabs from the tree, no one seems to relay the simple detail about wood thickness: ie 5 quarter, 8 quarter, 10 quarter etc. I cannot exactly explain why; it is just that I am facinated by standard table thickness. Yes I’d say it’ll be all right for the most part with the edge treatment you did afterwards but it just depends on what was cleaned off and what wasn’t. Ever notice how airy that stuff comes out the can? With it being so light I’m not sure it doesn’t coat everything in the room eventually. You’re exactly right on with that paint brush technique on the edges. Best way to get resin/wood adherence. First time I’ve seen ceramic done on a table this large though. Exquisite table!!! Handling a project that size in essentially a one-person shop is just a mind-numbing and back-breaking task. Just a suggestion. For your still and non-moving videos, use a circular polarizing filter to remove the glare off the table's surface (a good filter will not add any color cast). It will be a bit harder to deal with the glare when moving around videoing with the camera since the polarizing filter must be rotated to be 90 degrees from the light source to remove the glare (just turn the filter while looking through the viewfinder until the glare disappears). In this respect, we can better visualize the grain and all the labor that went into finishing the table.

    • @MattsWoodworks
      @MattsWoodworks  2 года назад
