  • The Costume Department at the National Theatre is where every element of what an actor wears on stage is brought together.
This film explores the work of that department and the skills that go into making the world of a play.

I've worked w/ costuming things a few x & found it too tedious for me, as I prefer more non-sewing methods. However, I do still appreciate the mechanism of sewing machines despite I prefer to abstain from sewing!
As for wig making,I've never gotten to experience that w/ ROOTING the hair in. I have learn to make a simplified 1 using a sig cap as the head cover, where the hair cover the entire cap! It was tough but quite interesting.
Now, makeup? That's ALWAYS been my thing, since age 5! However, I've just gotten my hands on a lil but of Stage Makeup products & have messed w/ the cheaper Halloween products. Prior tho, I've always resorted to street makeup & became somewhat advanced in it, despite I was a closet makeup type (never worked a field in makeup).

Why have normal-looking wigs when the hair can be styled that way?

I think probably because when they do hair designs like the ones where the hair is standing up it would take a really long time to do and don’t want the actors getting bored and tired of sitting having their hair done when it can just be styled on a wig instead and then they just slide that onto their head instead of having to go through hours of curling brushing and styling, hope this helps 🥰🙂

really interesting question! often under heavy lights, your scalp can start to sweat, which makes hair that's been held in place with hairspray and bobby pins start to droop. it's okay if you're a background actor or dancer and can nip into the green room, but if it's a minimalist play with actors on stage for long stretches, it's often easier just to chuck it all under a wig cap and use a wig that stays the same shape throughout the whole show.
