The best part of your training videos is listening to your wisdom. This video about expectations of your dog is excellent. I wish I had found your channel before I bought my German Shepherd puppy. I made so many training mistakes with him. I had watched other training videos and expected my puppy to be as good as the puppies in the videos without seeing the effort that went into the training. I got discouraged when I just needed more patience. Thank you for spreading your dog wisdom 😊.
I started laughing when you pointed out people stay inside when it rains. They also keep inside when it's very cold. It's the best time to work with your dogs behavior!
Stonnie, Thank you! You’ve kept me motivated to get my dogs out every single day, no matter what the weather, and get our work in! The results are profound. Your videos help owners and trainers keep a healthy and positive attitude toward dogs and the training process!
yep and you can do it without treats or always having to do with positive reinforcement. I got a whole channel on my dogs and I've trained them up without these treat methods and stuff like that, but it's always good to see everything... Having a strong work ethic definitely does it good, but so does trying more than one thing.
Another great video, Stonnie! As one of your former students, I can say your techniques, when applied with dedication, work wonders. Just this afternoon my 8 month old puppy didn’t touch the two cookies that fell off the cookie sheet onto the floor right in front of him as I was taking them out of the oven. Your technique for teaching impulse control from an early age gets the credit. He fetches, he swims, he goes to restaurants with us, all because of what you taught me.
Thank you for explaining the volume and environment at your place. That really put it into perspective for me. And I about spit my coffee out, laughing, when you said to make sure they've trained more dogs than your son has walked...LMBO!!! Often people ask me to help them train their dogs. A ten minute conversation usually reveals to me who really needs trained...them or their dog. Thanks for keeping it real. God bless you sir.
Yeah, we gets lots and lots of work in per day. Plain old repetition and hard work go a long way in the dog business. Yeah, I always chuckle when I see people giving advice about dog training when I know for a fact they have not walked more dogs than my children.
Be consistent, be patient is what I get most from Stonnie. Day by Day of little improvements will add up to years of improvement. But maybe some times end a day with a cold beer
I know when I was looking for someone to help me train my puppy, the first thing I looked at was is that person patient and are they nice to the dogs. You sir are both and what you are saying and showing make sense! Thank you so much for making these videos, because not everyone can afford to go to a trainer. You have help me greatly in training my puppy. Thank you again!
Love this! I"m one that gets sucked into feeling discouraged with my pup, so this video was perfect...reminding me of the basics. You are the best dog trainer we've ever had and I have never even met you!
"The owners went back to Commi-fornia."" Stonnie says. 😂🤣 As a Californian I can say that's true!!! That's why I'm changing my latitudeand going to stay full time on the family ranch in Baja California and start a training kennel 😁🐶🐕🦺🐕🐶🐩🐾🐾🐾🐾🦴🦴🦴 You're an inspiration Stonnie!
Great advice. Patience and consistency is the best thing for dog training. Keeping thing simple for the dogs at first and then challenge them after they got the simple things. Always keep thing slow.
Great video, as usual 👏. I could watch those dogs walking the obstacle course for hours. It's so relaxing I sometimes forget I stopped listening to what you were saying and I have to go back 😅
Wow you’re a people trainer, exactly what my problem is, I had the perfect dog , lost my oldest dog and I got stressed, this was reflected working with my two year old lab. ❤
Hi Stonnie, First up. Great Channel, I love it.....!! Good to see Trainers asking for true feedback. I've just started up my RUclips Channel after 25 years of training dogs and man its hard work so hats off to you for your strong viewer base. I'm a Behavioural Trainer in Australia gaining daily experience from the training of Service Dogs for Police, Prison and Military applications and applying that understanding to Domestic Dogs. Regarding your Comment on expertise, have you heard this? "Experience is no substitute for Knowledge, as much as Knowledge is no substitute for Experience". I guess a balance is what is needed. Respectfully though just doing something a lot doesn't mean its any good. The 10,000hr rule as an example only applies to doing what you are doing well not just "doing" it for a long time, so Trainers that follow the Herd are typical of the problem I see daily in Australia and sadly what is Highly Proliferated on RUclips. I have had students straight out of the Dog Trainer's Course here in Melbourne that despite not having handled many dogs at all, have genuine insight into how dogs work, think and feel. Too many "Trainers" have NO CLUE on true Psychology which is why 99% of the crap on RUclips is Symptom Driven not Cure Aimed. I am sure you see it, like people with 1M Subscribers and all they have to show is "what the viewers want to hear" not what the real answer is and I feel this is insulting to the Subscribers that don't know the difference, and I am sure would really appreciate it when they heard it. Anyway, again great channel brother. Keep rocking the web. JCB
My ex boss (from Texas) used to say ‘l’m from Missouri on that one’. He had to say ‘show me’ because I’m a Brit and didn’t know what he meant. I’m really enjoying your videos and seeing where I went wrong with my cocker spaniel.
Thanks for all the great videos. Do you have much experience in training wire-haired fox terriers? We are planning to bring one into our family of three (2 humans and 1 African Grey parrot) in 1 year.
If it wasn't for the local dog park, I never would have been able to socialize my dog. It was at the dog park where he learned his doggie manners, how to play, how to pee like a man, and how to "fight" with other dogs without actually biting or getting bit.
So happy to have found your page. I have a Rhodesian ridgeback and I notice yours doesn’t seem to follow the others either. Any tips on how to motivate her. She is not food motivated. Thank you so much!!
I have a 2.5 year old Belgian Malinois and he’s mean. He wants to hurt cats and dogs. I take him early with a friend each day at 5:15 (we’re working on our steps too)- But that’s the only time I can seem to take him anywhere. Been to multiple trainers and he’s good at everything, sit, Shake, lay, roll over, come, all good, follows me like a shadow. It’s just when he sees, sniffs or hears other dogs, he’s in mean mode. He’s great at the dog park with other dogs. This is leash aggression, what do you suggest?
I have a 9 year old PIt Bull that has a high prey drive when it comes to her favorite toy. I can't get her to drop and leave it> I tried giving a treat for the toy and it doesn't all the time work. I tried switching the toys by offering her a different one it doesn't really work. Any suggestions ?
Some trainer was talking about those dogs saying " Not pet material " for the belgian malinois . He didn't have that kind of control even remotely that you do . I need help with my Kangal . He is so good ! I just need to establish the " alpha" role . I get so many different opinions it's frustrating . He wants to protect me and doesn't want me to be the " threat judge " he wants to be and gets crabby with me when II correct him to quiet . He's big too !
I know this is going to be kind of an oxymoron question but one I think you will appreciate. I want a new bird dog, specifically a new pointing dog. I have 2 well bred, on the higher end drive retrievers. ( 1 Labrador and 1 Golden). I work my dogs 2 or 3 days a week in the field plus take them down to the local fishing pond for a swim once or twice a week. This gives them 3 or 4 day of off leash exercise for 20- 40 minutes on average on those days. That's enough to keep them physically satisfied. I have a profession career and am a father/ husband, so anymore time out exercising a dog isn't something I'm really interested in. I want to get a new bird dog and have my eye on a couple breeds. My issue is choosing a bred that will fit well into my current routine. I'm afraid of getting a GSP and the dog having "too big of a motor". Nedding an hour or 2 of exercise every day. The recharge time and energy exposition needed to keep a dog with a big big motor is something that I'm terrified of. I have trained both of my dogs to run on a treadmill but that in my opinion is not ideal. That is more to burn energy in the cold cold weeks of Chicago's winter. So, to get to my question. In your experience, which pointing breed do you think would melt well into my current exercise schedule.
I would love to know what you think of the Ridgeback and your experience with them. I have one and he is great but also I put the time and effort into him. I also have a strong sense of humor ha!
Sometimes my wpg gets a little stubborn and messy, but I give him a little leeway if performs his task basically correctly. Then, he begins to sit well and enjoys the exercise. Commiefornia ! Hahaha !
Hi Stonie, I admire you so much, but I wish you could train little dogs. I have an Australian Silkie terrier who is almost perfect, he knows lots of tricks, but the most important is I can't teach come or stay. Please help me. One more thing is he is very food oriented, so he will come if he knows I have a treat but not if I don't.
Need your expert advice. I have a 7 yr old dauchsie mix and a 3 yr old dauchsie mix. they have been together since the 3 yr old was 6 weeks old. The 7 yr old has always been the alpha dog. Last night the doorbell rang and they started barking, i tried to answer the door, but they turned crazy on each other! I have never seen anything like it...they were literally trying to kill each other. They went at each other for about 10 minutes very viciously and I used all my strength and could not separate them. Today one can't walk and the other one is totally traumatized. My question: is there any hope they will be able to be together again? or once this happens it's likely to continue. Thank you for your help!

Rules for training dogs:
Rule #1: Have a sense of humor.
Rule #2: Be smarter than the dog.
Rule #3: In the event you fail at Rule #2, see Rule #1.
This one really hit home, patients and consistency is the key. Great video, Stonnie covers it all. Thanks

Thanks for another video , Stonnie.
Stonnie, you are without doubt the Zen master of dog training!

Your style is no nonsense, simple and practical and it's obviously yielding results.
I really like your methods of training!

Wow. Well said. Thanks for keeping it real. I love Boone!
I think I know the dog whisperer? He has magical dog training secrets. Good video. I’ll stick to what I know! Yelling at the dogs.... lol
