One of the many things that impresses me about you is how you remember all those dogs’ names! I have two kids and two dogs and am forever mixing up their names!
you all prolly dont give a shit but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my password. I love any assistance you can offer me
Hi Stonnie! I think you’re a PHENOMENAL dog trainer and I’ve been binge-watching all your videos! Thanks for all you do!! Can you please make a video of “A Day In The Life of Mister No Name” ? 🥰🖤
I love the term "mistakes of exuberance" , its hard to watch people correct this, now i have a term for it..yay The older i get (66) the less i care about a straight sit or a perfect finish, truth is i don't care about those things one iota! I absolutely love your set up and training / teaching style - hoping many are mirroring it. Maybe the world could get away from tricks for treats and have calm attentive & polite dogs, of course i do love an obedient dog as long as it isn't anxiously performing! You are a master of your trade! Thank you for sharing! 💞 🐩
Well done Stonnie! You're the MAN. I appreciate your practical, no nonsense approach and providing us with insights into what you have learned in your career. I'll keep watching if you keep making videos. I appreciate it.
I have a red and will always have a heeler, just loyal and will die for you. Give you a chance to draw for sure. Can be testing when young, but an experienced well socialized heeler is an amazingly easy dog to keep and love.
Your videos help me be a better human. Seriously after adopting our pup I realized that I am one haha and it’s been great to use your mastery in training in my own life. Thanks for consistently sharing man. You’re helping me a lot
I just love watching all the dog’s reactions. It is a joy seeing them run all around. You wonder what their thought process is. Great training videos. 😂
Fantastic video! It's absolutely true that the best dog trainers are other well-trained dogs. It was interesting to see how the herding dogs (especially the ACD and the Mal/Dutchie) thought it was their responsibility to make sure everybody else was behaving. The ACD got a little bit too rough with the new GSP puppy out of frustration. But the Mal/Dutchie was keeping an eye on the pup and making some gentle corrections, too.
Man, thank you for this. Covid has been really hard on my 2yo gsp (attacked by a pit bull on my street out of nowhere ; 30 staples but he's doing great), but we keep our routine as best we can. His best friend is a 4yo blue tick coonhound, so that's been really helpful. Mentorship is key
Great video. I’m also on the Cattle Dog train. I got my collie/Heeler mix who is a great girl and been trained using Stonnie Videos the last 2 years. I’m waiting to rescue a Blue Heeler so would love to see some work with the Red Heeler!
Thanks, Stonnie. I’m getting another Boston next spring. Right now we’ve got a tricolor 5 yr. Cavalier. He was mentored by 2 senior Boston’s before they went to heaven. I’m 70 now(ancient) and want to build another great relationship and your methods are so well balanced and loving alpha. Thank you for the great info. Love your channel. Be blest☦️👩🏻🦳🐾 carla in ohio

So Good to hear a trainer talk about what is really important, "Everyday life". The base for me and my dog to have fun together, and enjoy eachothers company . This is what has to work! Hi Stonnie, think I've watched about three to four of your videos at least every day in the past 4 weeks. We got 2 Labrador brothers 4 weeks ago. And now they are 12 weeks old your videos have helped us so much. And thanks for demystifying the siblings BS as we always get told about it.. Just me and my wife and we both have time to train them. Taking to puppy school on the next couple of weeks. Again just a thank you for your great videos. Shame you are not able to come to New Zealand and train 😂 🇳🇿
I really enjoy your videos. Reminds me when I use to train dogs and I agree with your comments across your videos a lot, especially when people think they know better, 😂😂😂😂😂 yeah, they’d be better of rewinding your video and put it on loop 10x 😂😂😂
Thanks for this info! We're getting a puppy in December and I have an older (10 years) jack Russell. Im working hard on his behavior so he can be a good mentor to our new baby. I hope i can find a dog park for them to play in, but even better id love a mini obstacle course like yours 😯
Great video as always. I don't think that Lab puppy moved the entire video. Even when the other dogs were running over the top of him. Nothing like my Lab at that age.
Stonnie, I got a puppy due to the hysteria that has plagued us recently. She is 3/4 golden retriever and 1/4 Sheltie. Her temperament is anxious, she nips me still, she claws/ scratches so hard. I have tried the recommended methods by human society but her bad behaviors still persist. Would you recommend one of your older videos or do a training video on those behaviors? I thought that a golden retriever would be very friendly, but she is very ornery. I have tried to find buddy dogs for her, but due to the "affliction" many are hiding in their holes.
Just found your channel a couple weeks ago after we adopted a new puppy -- guessed to be a German Shepherd/Catahoula mix, currently about 4 months old. We also have a 5 year old lab mix (maybe pit, maybe boxer) who's always been very submissive and skittish, but she seems to be pretty rough with the new puppy during backyard play. No biting, but pushes at her with her snout and knocks her down, etc. while they run around. The puppy does come at her a lot (pretty mouthy), but they generally get along very well. From what I've seen in several of your videos, it seems we should just let this dynamic play itself out, but is there any point at which you would recommend stepping in and separating -- there's never been a fight, but sometimes things seem to get more rough than they probably should, so we put a stop to it. Just curious on your thoughts -- thanks for the great videos!
Those red cattle dogs have a reputation here in Australia - nothing like the blue. They are said to be unpredictable and aggressive- no where near as popular to have as the blue healers. I’m surprised to see one in Kentucky.
Hey Stonnie, I was wondering, how long do you generally use treats for to help train a new puppy (8 weeks old)? Thanks for the video, as always, I enjoyed it.

I’m not Stonnie but just taking them out into the world. I’ve gone to parks and walked on picnic tables and trained with kids and parties happening at the park as the distraction. Not helpful for the mentor-mentee interaction, but does allow for the concentration and the obstacle training
@@Flippokid Is there a set definition of what a balanced dog trainer is? Most trainers that call themselves balanced will include positive punishment in their training (in my experience, at least) whereas trainers that call themselves positive use positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement and negative punishment but avoid positive punishment. (Although I know he is also well versed in "old school" methods and will use them to train a dog if the owner requests it, but his default program uses modern methods).
I have a 12 week old lab puppy. I’m getting her used to walks on the leash. But sometimes, after awhile, she gets a burst of energy and starts either running wild in circles or bites at my legs! We could have walked an hour and she’ll still do it. My pitty did this too, minus the leg/clothes nipping. Pup will be crazy like rabid and ill have to use all my strength to hold her back. She even pantsed me in front of the neighborhood. What can I do when she does this
Yeah, that's just a developmental stage she's going through. It sucks and it hurts and it might get worse before it gets better. You can do the normal anti-puppy biting stuff, but sometimes they are too riled up to care about you yelping and owing and you might not be in a position to walk away from her. When such an instance occurs, you can wrap the leash around something like a tree so she can't get to you, or pick her up and hold her mouth shut with one hand until she calms down a little. When possible, redirect her to a calm behavior like some treat work. I had to do that a lot when our hound was around 4 months, we used to call her Land Shark. Now, at 15 months, she is very careful with her mouth and always backs off if someone says "ouch".
Lucy -- I'm no expert by any means, having had only six dogs during my adult years. But if you're walking your pup using a normal 6 ft leash, you could try a long line (30 or 40+ ft.) Go to some area where there's room, a park, an empty school yard or a patch of ground that's sometimes found next to a strip mall. Let the pup run around and work out some of his energy while you maintain control with the long line. Throw a ball or toy just so he'll have something to chase; he doesn't have to bring it back. That might help tire him out. Just a suggestion. I use the technique with my dog; it works pretty well for me. 😀 Good luck. 👍

My 3 month old lab puppy is coming along quite well than kn s to stonies videos but he has just recently started to eat really quickly and almost aggressively. Maybe mix up your routines with so he can't anticipate things you know he will react to. Do you feed raw or kibble? Have you tried what they call slow bowl? They are very effective slows down eating and makes them use their brain a bit. You can also use a snuffle mat. Or put a tennis ball in the bowl so he has to push the ball around can aslo work. hiding food in different places in the yard/house and make him search and find. I only rawfeed I use frozen balanced raw food 20kg blocks cost about 35 dollars. Hiking, training and doing daily things even like taking the trash together strengthens your bond and respect for one another.
